  1. Just record the video as normal, export it and use your choice of software to edit the frame rate. Here's a tutorial explaining how to do it with iMovie http://creativetechs.com/iq/create_timelapse_videos_with_imovie_hd_6.html. It's probably best if you set the camera to only record during times that you want to include in the movie so that all you have to do is edit the frame rate and deliver the final file to your customer. Good luck with your project.
  2. The Avigilon marketing documentation never explicitly specifies whether the Analog Video Encoders do 120 FPS at full D1 or CIF, does anyone have any idea? Thanks.
  3. ALL SOLD, THANKS! I have 12 Acti ACM-3401 cameras for sale. 8 are basically brand new, put them up to test and put them back in the box. 4 still unopened. $250 OBO each, limited time special.
  4. Hey Guys, I know that Geovision currently doesn't officially support the Arecont 2815 or 10005, but has anyone here tried it? Thanks.
  5. Anyone had a chance to play with the Sanyo VDC-HD3100? Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Sanyo VDC-HD3100

Well it looks like a non-issue, I understand these cameras are backordered until August due to a disruption in chip supply from Japan . I'm going to call around and see if anyone has any stock. How does the Arecont Vision 2815 compare in picture quality to this Sanyo? Thanks Again.

    Avigilon Video Encoders

Thanks guys. Yea I really like that it only uses one license for the device as well, just never had a chance to try it out. At that print point it's a VERY competitive solution. Going to have to try it out.
  9. Avigilon has some CCD megapixel cameras, but the cameras and software will cost you a pretty penny.

At the same time we need to cut the distributors some slack. Distribution is a very tough market, and most of them don't make as much money as one would think. Any decent distributor works off 20 points or less, which sometimes can be difficult when you can imagine the overhead (advertising, sales, warehouse, etc.). They also give alot of their dealers Net 30, Net 60, and even Net 90, which unfortunatelly, usually leads to a lot of defaults. This all has to be factored into their cost of business. I know a small distributor thats owed a couple hundred thousand by a few different dealers, they'll probably never be able to collect that money. Remember, if their business was that profitable, and was that easy, everyone would open the same exact business. In this country, money is not an issue, if a business is making money, wether it costs $10 or $10 Billion you can be damn sure that someone else well be opening next door as soon as they find out.

    should I use IP cameras?

You just keep installing analog cameras I will take all of the IP camera installs. I think your getting ahead of your self buddy. I've installed and still install both. Provide a solution for a narrow jewelery store that needs to cover each show case, say the store is 500 feet long by 40 feet wide. Jewelery cases run down the side of the store. Analog solution is 30 cameras, with a camera positioned over each show case. Here, it doesn't matter the resolution because each camera is covering such a small area and there's no way to eliminate any of those cameras. If you go with a IP solution, 1.3 MP at 30 FPS the bandwidth consumption will be crazy and so will the storage. Will 3 to 4 times the amount of the analog installation. Now, there are many times when IP is useful, but to say analog is dead is not very smart. If analog was dead then why is Axis still making video servers?

    Axis vs ACTi

I wish there was an emoticon for a middle finger.... Vivotek is like the Q-See of the IP Camera arena, and even then that's a stretch.

Avigilon standard HD vs Pro HD

Pro series give u a CCD senosr Vs. a CMOS senosr, Wide Dyanmic Range, and Day / Night capability. You'll need the pro series for outdoor envoriments, or indoor enviorments with challenging lighting, like the entrance of a building. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

  15. $20,000 for 2 DVRs?? Seems more then a little bit pricey. Seems a little bit on the high side. What frame rate and at what resolution do you need to record in? Can you please explain what you meant here: "We want remote capabilities, though not via the web but rather by IP." Do you just mean you want to access it on your LAN? How many days are you looking to record for? Also, what type of cameras do you currently have and when where they installed. Remember, garbage in - garbage out, if your cameras are sub-par then your probably not going to increase picture quality by switching out your DVR's.
  16. You get what you pay for, so in this case, nothing .

    Let the price wars begin

The bill of materials comes out to $1,750,000 for 50,000 units. But... say the bill of materials is $80 a unit for 1,000 units then you could start selling the units for $100,000 or less (without marketing and other company over head). Okay, so if u guys want to start donating to my fund then PM me and I'll give you my paypal address .
  21. securitysys

    Let the price wars begin

No, $35 is the bill of material @ 50,000 units +. You still have to add cost of labor, marketing, etc. So say $199 to $299 a camera max. Oh, and you please read the whole article . $795 is for the reference design.

    DVRS That Suck

Everyone wants to know what's good, why don't we list what's bad!! I'll start my list off: It starts with a A ends with a H, All AVTECH. Most Dedicated Micros 99% Arm Electronics I don't consider these DVRS but some do: QSee Swann Lorex Clover And if one more client asks me why we charge 20X this http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11273790&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC| I'm quitting. Nuvico seems like there stuff is pretty good, how ever they send out press releases to the general public the same time that they send it to the dealers. Their supports kind of confusing. And it seems like they like to release new products before expanding on their current bases, remember the XG? I got more, but I want to let other people rant as well .

configure a cable modem for remote veiwing

Simple: Either install the software on the unit (if it's PC Based), or utilize the routers Dynamic DNS Function. You get an account with No-ip.org, or with the Dynamic DNS service that your router has, and they will assign you address, for example: security.no-ip.org, now all you have to do is enter that address, no more worrying about what the IP address is. No-ip.org has free accounts, and so do more DDNS services. Hope that helps.
