Why?? He could of returned it to Costco for a full refund. Unless he's one of the customers on the list .
-
I sent you a PM. We did it for a 10 store chain in Modesto. It's pretty easy, the only thing is you have to know which products to use. With audio and video it can tricky, especially if the budget is tight, and even worse if the bandwidth is limited. It varies with every situation.

It worked fine for me on my XP computer. I will never buy a camera from this manufacture. Absolutely ridiculous.
-
You're going to have to reinstall the drivers, but what I would do is uninstall everything, put in the card, then reinstall everything off the cd that comes with the new card, muchase easier. It may work, it may not. Some of the 4 channel cards work on the dell computers, but once you get into the 8 and 16 channels for some reason sometimes they don't work, even if the dell has a intel chipset (chipset that's on the motherboard, not the CPU). It's kind of like throwing dice .

What falvor of linux are you running? Ex. Ubuntu, Mandrake, Red Hat? Make sure you get a wireless card that's supported, and then install it and it will work.

Go with the Arecont 3130's, add the housing, and 2 tamron lenses each. As for the IP software, I've used Luxriot in the past, and I like it, how ever we switched to Exacq recently, and we like the user interface much better. As for a place to purchase it, check the net for a decent price, but for the 3130's you won't be able to get one for $800 with the housing and lenses. If you want to demo the Exacq software send me a pm and I can get you a link. Other IP Manufactures for you to look at: Milestone / OnSSI Video-Insight Avermedia Best of Luck!

The cameras a hazerdous piece of shi*. Thank you JoinDVR for the link!

You can use the manufacture link as well: http://202.168.200.158/ Username: User (case sensitive) Password: 4321 It may not work on vista, and you may have to wait a couple of minutes for it to even prompt you to install the activex control. Good Luck!

cheap outdoor housing for Axis 207w
securitysys replied to metafizx's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hey, Would it be possible for you to show a snapshot from this unit at night? I just want to take a look at it. Thanks, Ed -
I don't know what pricing you get on that unit, but if it's the same as mine then this unit is only $10 more in the USA. Out of the USA it's cheaper obviously. Check your PM.

Check with the manufacture if they have any special Motherboard requirements. Some manufactures don't work with chipsets other then intel (not your CPU, the actually chipset on the motherboard). If you have a second system, try it on that and see if it works. Your RCA-BNC won't be a problem. If all else fails take a look at: www.geovision.com www.video-insight.com ww.exacq.com www.luxriot.com www.aver.com/security.html And pick a new card & software . If you invested a good amount of money into the computer, invest some money into a decent card. For $41.50 you can't expect much even if you get it up and running. Go with something with a name brand on it, this way if anything goes wrong you'll have: 1) A Warranty 2) People that can help you out If you have any questions on your current card I'll try to assist you to the best of my ability, but I have never used it in the past. BTW, welcome to the forum!

It is! I was just demonstrating how the web interface was crap as well . It's not my DVR, it's a freely available demo that was online. I couldn't stand the web interface. I understand that for lower cost jobs you have less options, but for me, this DVR isn't one of them . We don't do residental any more, but when we did we carried a entry level DVR and MSRP'd it for $599 with 250GB Hard Drive, 4 Channels @ 120 FPS, USB Mouse, etc. It's this one: http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11995430/Stand_Alone_DVR.html The thing I hate the most about the AVTech unit is the user interface and recording quality, and the fact that I think there are units in the same price range that will do the job better. Okay, I am being a bit of ***hole, but the reason is, after being in the industry for only a few years, I've gotten tired of phone calls from customers complaining about how hard the unit is to use, how do we do this, how do we do that, etc. My view is that a residental DVR should allow someone to come in with no training what so ever and within 5 minutes (with no instruction by a 3rd party), know how to operate the DVR completely, I don't know if this is the case with that DVR. Now, that being said, this unit will probably do the job, it will record, allow you to watch online, but I just don't like it. Hey, I don't like Axis either, maybe I'm just a pain in the rear, or maybe I'm just pissed because they sell the unit at costco .

general reccommendation for balun MFG
securitysys replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I have tried a couple different ones, and they both provided the same quality video. Alot does depend on the quality of the cable. When I get a chance I'll hook up one going on RG59, and one on Cat5E and post the pictures, see if we can tell the difference! -
What router works better other than D-Link or Linksys?
securitysys replied to sonorabill's topic in Computers/Networking
For basic routers: Linksys For Switches with POE Netgear For more complicated networks with QOS, etc., Cisco -
I didn't even know about Multipix until someone mentioned it in this forum. Has anyone tried it? How do you like it? Can you post some sample pictures? Thanks Guys! Edit: I just gave them a call, $6,500 for a 5 MP Basler Pilot. For $6,500 I'll develop my own 5 MP camera

Good thing you returned it to Costco! Sorry Scorpion, I hope we can agree to disagree on this DVR. I personally think this DVR is absolute garbage. One of my vendors keeps sending me these newsletters with the latest products, and this was always featured as a special, bundled with 4 cameras. Keep in mind I never buy anything from these guys, but I figured hell, let me give the guy a shot, he's persistent. Long story short, someone with 4 locations asked me for a quote. I gave him the quote based on these DVR's and I got the job. Well, like an idiot, I hadn't tried the DVR first. So I tried the sample, and after review I came to the conclusion that I would take the index finger on my left hand and cut it off before I installed this unit in one of my clients shops. I ended up purchasing a unit that was about double the cost, and installed it. Again, that's just my opinion. I don't deal to much with the lower - end products, so maybe I'm just to picky, but man, I was never so disgusted at a DVR. My clients old Q-SEE DVR would make someone think it's a $6,000 GE unit compared to this thing!! Then again, there’s a customer for everything :-/. For anyone interested here's an online demo of it (not my unit): http://208.57.226.42:81/ Username: admin Password: admin

how much for 16 camera installation
securitysys replied to texasdyme's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Don't charge per hour, if for some reason it takes you longer then what you told him as an estimate he'll probably be mad. Tell the customer point blank, I don't know what type of equipment you purchased, I don't care what type of equipment you purchased. I'm here to run wires, hook it up, and leave. If the equipment doesn't work, it's not my problem, if the equipment malfunctions, it's not my problem, if you don't like the system, it's not my problem. Now, if the cabling goes bad, the crimps fall off, or you have a leak from a hole I drilled, that IS my problem. Think of me like an electrician, I run the cables all the way up to the power outlet, if the TV you plug in doesn't work, I'm not buying you a new TV!! Tell him he'll get X amount of training on the system, you'll warranty your work for X amount of time, and that for everything over X you will charge X amount. Again, because you haven't worked with the system, do not charge him per hour, because you may spend an hour on the phone with tech support and he may feel cheated because your charging him X dollars per hour while your simply on the phone. Don't short change your self either, just give him a flat rate, if it takes u 5 min, or 5 hours, it's that rate. Even if it comes out to the same thing the customer will be more happy. For the installation, estimate how long it will take you X how much you want to make per hour (I pay my contractors $40 per hour in city, $50 out + Gas), you can probably charge the customer $75, and then add 20%. So if you think it will take you 10 hours at $75 an hour charge him $750 and then add an additional $150 to make it $900. This will cover any mishaps you may run into. That pricing is assuming your licensed, insured, and bonded. Best of luck! -
Send me $50 cash and I'll send you a picture of a good DVR card.

You beat me to it. I was just about to recommend that camera. For a name brand camera, that sony is unbeatable. We installed tons of those when they first came out a couple years back. Just noticed you changed your mind on that to a bullet.

Good job . Rory I tried this DVR out and for the price it's excellent: http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11995430/Stand_Alone_DVR.html No Cd, but backs up to USB. Has LAN, recording quality is actually decent, and you can use a mouse instead of a remote. Just throught I would pass it along.. Good Night everyone one!

securitysys replied to Kiwi's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It's a definite imporvement, but you should still be able to get that picture better. I don't use the Lenses that arecont supply, when I get a chance tomorrow I'll find out who makes the ones we use. Good Luck!
