I would pick Exacq over Video Insight any day. Going to get some sleep, will expand in another post later .

Just a quick note, did you double check with Exacq if they support any Analog cards other then their own? I was under the impression they no longer sell analog cards separately, that you have to buy their system from them directly.

They are really nice people. Their support is good, they really try to help you. However, I have been telling them for years their entire interface sucks, the way you zoom, the way you playback, everything. But yea, for the price + feature combination, you can't really beat it. It'll work great if your looking at your cameras occasionally, playing back only when there is an incident, but for people who constantly use their systems in a security environment their interface makes it impossible. I just recommend this particular user take a look at his options, checkout Avigilon, Milestone, Genetec, Exacq (I heard they got better, can't confirm).

I'm not a big fan of Luxriot, mostly because of the UI. Also had some issues on larger installs. If you are evaluating, then try Avigilon while your at it.

Honestly you will not be happy with any of those cameras. Spend a bit more and buy a decent camera like a Vivotek 8362. Or just go with a cheap DVR and a decent analog camera, it will get you better picture quality in the AVN252.

More ridiculously to setup then Genetec? I would be curious to hear what you find difficult in regards to Genetec setup / operation?

Did the OP choose a system ?

High failure rates across the board. 8362's, 10005DN's, 3135's, you name it I have seen it. Including quite a few that have failed right out of the box. It appears that they are doing a bit better now, but for a company that really pioneered the main stream megapixel IP market I feel that they should be above and beyond any of their current competitors. They make a decent product, but they really need to work on their failure rate.

The Vivotek IP8362 is a pretty good camera. Good Image Quality, Good Night Time Image, and Decent WDR for IP.

Try Axxon: http://www.axxonsoft.com/products/axxon_smart/smart_start.php Not the greatest out their, but might work for your situation. Does support audio from most Mobotix cameras, and it's free for 16 CH up to 1TB storage.

What NVR software are you using? Avigilon has a H.264 full D1 encoder @ 30 FPS per ch. as well.

But there's still certainly a learning curve for a PC Based unit. If I'm not mistaken he sells most of his products from his website, so he's probably looking for something that will be easier for his customers to setup thus easier for him to support. If someone comes out with a reasonably priced HDCCTV solution and works out some of the kinks that will probably be better for a self install consumer then an IP based system at this point.

I don't know of any true embedded hybrid system that can do over 1080p, but I don't deal with these units so I wouldn't be the best source of information. Exacq, Geovision, etc. all have pre-built systems that will meet your needs. Avigilon is very competitively priced in this arena, I would give them a look to see if they meet your needs.

I spoke with Exacq when they first came out a few years back before they started using any 3rd party reps. It appeared to me that they had a solid starting point and they really understood what customers where looking for in a NVR and Hybrid system. Fast forward a few years later and the software really hasn't evolved much. They grew within their niche, which was hybrid systems and it looks like they couldn't see past this. I personally never sold the product, after demoing it I determined it would be best to wait for them to work out the kinks, probably a good decision in hindsight. I don't think they even sell the cards separately anymore, you have to buy the entire system from them, correct? I do like the pricing for their NVR software as it scales to any size system since your paying per individual channel.

Hi All, Anyone tried both the Geovision and Arecont 3MP Bullet Cameras? Just looking for a straight image comparison and night time performance information. I want to go with the Geovision camera as it's a bit cheaper and is free to use with the hybrid NVR. Also have not used Arecont for quite some time, is the defect rate still through the roof? Thanks in advance for any help.

Genetec does CCTV / Access Control and they have a full support office in Dubai.

The cameras comes with software. Trendnet is pretty much bottom of the bucket when it comes to IP cameras, and you choose their most basic ones, so don't expect stellar quality. You can demo that camera here: username: guest password: guest http://www.trendnet.com/demo/?model=165_TV-IP501P You're probably better of getting 4 high resolution analog cameras and a multiplexer for this job, it'll give you a better picture quality with the budget that you are working in.

Say he has 4 sites at 256k each and 4 users that wanted to access each site, that means each user would get 56k a site. If he streamed all 4 sites to the server at 256k each the server could then restream at the full 256k to each user. Well the will depend on the VMS that he uses. Some VMS software when you connect to the cameras from the client you connect directly to the camera other you connect to the server. So then correct name that he should be using is a "restreaming server" at the headend but you will still have to stream ALL cameras to that server so it will handle the client connections. Yea, I think Exacq streams directly from the camera, but as long as he goes with a NVR that restreams he'll be okay. It's still an NVR as he wants to record cameras at the HQ as well. Yea, but whats better 4 client connections to that same 4 cameras on 256K of bandwidth which would give them a total of 16K per camera-per user, or the site streaming to the the HQ NVR and being re streamed to all users at the full 64K per camera-per user?

All of his other locations are 256k to 1Mbps uploads, so he wants to re-stream all cameras from the HQ because it has a faster internet connection. So if he's streaming cameras from site a and b to the HQ and HQ has a 10Mbps upload for example more users will be able to watch those cameras at the same time. Only problem with the method I suggested is he's going to be streaming all cameras all the time over the net.

Genetec is an awesome system and I always recommend it but for this case couldn't you just multi-stream the cameras to the local NVR and the headquarters NVR at the same time and then let the headquarters NVR re-stream to your other customers? Most NVR's should do the job.
