    Mounting enclosures

Hmm thats a thought, might try to tack weld to the top of a standard one a mounting plate and turn it into a drop bottom... That or Gorilla Glue or epoxy maybe... (this is a home install so as long as it passes the wife's inspection, I am good!)

    Mounting enclosures

I didn't say anything about mounting it upside down There are a few J brackets that are out there like I said in my original post, but most are too big or too small... You didn't say you had a specific camera in mind.... Although mounting the camera upside down in a standard enclosure would work for orienting the image properly, a major issue would be that most housings aren't made for that. The sun shroud, if any, would be on the bottom and many enclosures have drain holes that would wind up on the top and be an avenue for water entry. Most housings rely on gravity to keep water away from the electronics. If you do find a way to reverse gravity, let me know because I'm looking for a good investment . Pelco used to have one but it was huge. I think a dome enclosure may be your best bet.

That won't work with a WV-CP454... Any one have creative ideas for mounting box enclosures from the top?

Does anyone know of a retailer that ACTUALLY stocks this lens? I can find lots of folks that say they have it til you order... If you have one and have a decent price on it, pm me. Or if you know of a retailer that has it.

Using a PTZ for recording in a chapel

Its not the encoding, its the signal level... That recorder wasn't really made for the level that is coming out of that PTZ. I would suspect you need a video amp to clean up the signal.

Not judging or anything, but people want this recorded?

    B&W low light camera

Yes, it has a few settings. One is around 5 lux, the other is around 1 lux. You can also specify the amount of time that the light is above that level before it switches back so it doesn't hunt. There is a second setting for using IR lighting. Hope that helps.
  11. Yeah I saw that, but I have nowhere to put it myself, nore any housing or lens Can't help you with the lens, and don't even talk to me about housings! I have dealt with 3 different "Professional" companies and each one has tried to pull a fast one. The first one offered an Indoor housing as Indoor/Outdoor The second one said he was selling Pelco Housings and turned out they were "Pelco Like" The third one offered an IP66 rated housing to only then try to switch me to their "House Brand" because they don't have the IP66 housings in stock, and tried to tell me that their no name housing was IP66 rated, when their website shows no rating. The said part is that 2 of the vendors are on here! I have had better luck from people OUTSIDE the CCTV industry then in it Don't feel bad, the Alarm Industry is about the same. Everyone out for a buck, and no one caring about reputation.
  12. My WV-CP484's came in. The one was exactly as described in the auction and did not appear to be used at all. The other one looked a bit rough. No matter what I tried I could not get it to focus. Then I realized someone had jammed an adaptor on the front and there was no way the lens would be able to focus. Unfortunately they cross threaded it, hence the bargain price. But with a bit of patience, I was able to get it it off and then get the lens back on. Even in color mode at night this camera is amazing! When it switches to B/W you would swear that there is a flood light on somewhere! ( The pics below are in color only, took a bit to figure out the menu system so none are in the higher sensitivity b/w mode, and I couldn't leave the camera up without a housing) I am glad I was able to snag these off auction and for the price it was an awesome deal! Now to get me some enclosures!
  13. And I happen to have a brand new in the box Sanyo in the classifieds section for cheap only reason for parting with it is because of the purchase of a couple of WV-cp484's

    B&W low light camera

I think we are agreeing actually. One is good for one thing and the other for another. For true security it should be layered. The combination of CCTV and an effective alarm system is a great combination. Trying to do the job of one with the other isn't wise...

    B&W low light camera

Be aware that cameras will not stop anyone. They will hopefully record the necessary info to get the perp later. This will be little consolation to your relatives at your funeral (if you are worried about home invasion, rapes, murders etc) A surveillance system is just that, it watches. An alarm system is a proactive device that will call the cops if a bad guy tries to gain entry. You can even install Cellular dialers with backup, as well as pendent panic buttons. Don't give yourself a false sense of security by adding cameras... IF you are looking for a decent box day/night I purchased a Sanyo that I am not going to use as I got a couple of wv-cp484's. Its in the classifieds section if you are interested.
  16. I am looking to add a Pano WV-CP484 and a Sanyo VCC4594 but the wife is not happy about the housing sizes. Does anyone make a compact outdoor housing? One of the cameras will be under a porch so it won't need much in the way of protection, but the other will be exposed to weather. Ideas? And what recommendations do you folks have for a lens on the Sanyo? Our kids play in the Cul de Sac behind our house, and the wife uses this to keep an eye on em when she is inside. The eave to the center of the Cul De Sac is about 150' away. Currently I have a cheapie Pinhole camera that is almost right (the whole Cul De Sac is in the frame) but the image quality is equal to what I paid, hence the Sanyo replacement.

    Compact Housing and lens suggestion

Ironically, the guy that tried to sell the Fake Pelco enclosures is pm'ing me here. And he still has auctions that are touting that he is selling Pelco. Caveat Emptor! Anyway, I found someone that was selling IP66 rated Samsung housings, and they seem legit. (I know these are full size, but the wife will have to suck it up I don't wanna cook the cameras!) I think I found a way to minimize the appearance, but I need to find a ceiling type mount, i.e. J mount that is about 14in or better yet adjustable. Ideas?
  18. mikesus

    Woohoo the cameras are here!

Checked both and they seem to be ok. The camera itself will handle 16 pixels that you can turn off if they are stuck, but with them connected to my 50' Sony rear projection, I found none. This guy was offering a 30 day return on these, so if they were bad, send em back. But they weren't! A pair of these for under $500 with lenses was a decent deal I think.
  19. for that price range you should be looking at either b/w bullets or maybe something like the ECL596 (they will be above your $75 per camera tho) That big of an area is not going to do well with the little IR illuminators that you find on the cheapie bullets. It also depends on what you plan to do with the video. Is it eyes outside but not recorded? Or are you planning on trying to use it as evidence for someone committing a crime against you? Even a good camera could have issues under the last circumstance if the bad guy isn't big enough in the frame to identify. Now if its someone you know and can easily recognize, that plays in also. Also, with fixed vs varifocal (you can in essence zoom in and frame whatever you are trying to capture) camera placement can be a lot more critical.

Well I went and tried to order 3512's. Website said Pelco, had the Pelco description, I get the invoice and it says, "Pelco Like" Call the guy up and he says, "We did that for searches" Riiiiight.

Is more IR LED's always better?

I have never liked em. IF you are trying to install to augment a security system, motion triggered floodlights do a lot more. Even if each of those led's were 1watt, you are still talking about 18w of light. The camera better be very light sensitive. Now if you hit the area with 300w of Halogen Flood, even a bad camera will show something. Get a good one and it looks like daytime. Besides, if its for security, you are better off not having video of the guy stealing/trashing something. I like the video where you see em run away when the light comes on.

Is more IR LED's always better?

First off, a lot of factors have to be determined. How far away is the subject? I.E. are you talking about mounting a camera looking at your front door and the subject will be < 10 ft? More IR would probably be a bad thing in this case. Also, what are you expecting? You want to see the dude sneaking across your lawn at 100 yds? You will probably need to look more at a day night camera, or flood lights. Depending on the scenario, less leds might be a better thing, or a better camera and seperate IR illuminator.

    Compact Housing and lens suggestion

I did manage to find that late last night. The pricing is about double of a 3512. We might need to just paint em or put em somewhere else vs the extra expense. Was there a problem other than asthetics for the 3512's?

    STI 7200k Housing

Is anyone familar with this housing? I plan on mounting them under the eave and under the porch, should I go for the one with the blower for a WV-CP484? This is for an install in North Carolina.

That looks pretty good! The only ones that I am finding are the ones with their cameras installed tho...
