Hi guys, I am worried about DVR theft and losing footage. If I am able to view my cameras live on my pc then surely there must be some way to have the footage recorded. Are there any programs or hardware out there to help me accomplish this? I only want to have around 1-2 days of footage being recorded at a time and then overwritten. Any ideas? Thanks!

Whats up guys, I have always wanted to install some surveillance cameras around my home but never really had the time to mess around with it. I purchased a low quality cheap system (night owl fs8500) just to see how the install would go. I am pretty handy and was able to mount all eight cameras around the roof of my home, conceal and run all cables to the dvr, set up the internet and mobile networking, and get everything running smoothly. So now I think I want to upgrade my dvr to something with better resolution and search features. Basically I want it to be -8 channels with at least one audio input -have remote internet control and mobile viewing -ptz compatibility and control -D1 resolution options on all channels -easy search features with a fast rewind and ffwd speeds -good motion detection features and capability -a simple 500gb hdd -backup options such as usb or dvd -power protect to save settings in case of power outage -oh and a nice interface I think thats about it, maybe you guys can help me find one. Thanks!

Nobody knows of any that fit my specs? I liked the qsee but the GUI is exactly the same as my nightowl so I am assuming the search speed and options are the same. How does this look? http://www.digimerge.com/images/file/221/DH100_Touch_Specs_R2.pdf -

Hi. with your kit. did you use lead kits to connect your cameras. many people install these kits and find they want better images. if you have used lead kits you will find you will need to replace them . what would be a good replacement for them? -

Wow I appreciate that you are being very thorough. You have made some really good and interesting points. First off your right about D1 on all channels, I do not want to hog the bandwidth. My DVR does not have HD resolution only CIF. I wouldnt mind using HD instead of D1, how does the HD compare with the CIF? Oh and I did use the cables they came with, I was staying within budget. I have the nightowl FS8500, they have all the specs on the website. My current DVR has almost all of the options I listed except power outage protection, D1 and HD, quick rewind fast forward speeds, and easy search. What is the complete model number of your DVR? I would like to check it out, sounds good. LoL I know the camera upgrade is inevitable and I have been researching a lot of cameras lately but I would rather have a nice DVR first. -
I had 2 cameras and a dvr installed at my house a few years ago by some "security guy" lol and it is complete garbage. The dvr sucks, and the cameras suck. I have been researching cameras and dvrs for so long now and just keep getting more and more confused with all of the options. Right now I am more interested in a new dvr. What is the difference between pc based and non pc based? pros cons? Do all of them allow you to view the footage on the internet? Which kind let you transfer the saved video to a pc for editing? What specs do you look for to tell if it is good? The dvr I have now sucks and when i go to rewind or fast forward at its fastest speed it is so slow that in order for me to watch 1 hour of video while on fast forward I would have to actually have to sit there for about 50 min. I have a ton more questions but this is all I can think of for now. I would realllyy appreciate any help. Thanks guys

There have been a lot of break ins and vandalism in my neighborhood so I want to have a good quality system to watch my home. I had two cameras and a dvr installed to watch the front of my home and the dvr is complete garbage and the cameras aren't really that great. I am looking for some good cameras that record clear picture during day and at night and that can also clearly display people faces for identification during day amnd night. I want to be able to angle them to catch both sides of my driveway and also the cars that pass by in the street. For the dvr I want something that can burn the footage onto dvd. Also it must have fast rewind and fast forward capabilities with enough space couple of days of straight recording. That's all I can really think of for now. I would like the dvr to be very user friendly. I do not want to spend a ton on top of the line but I would like some really good quality cameras and dvr. What can you guys recommend for me?? Thanks a lot

what is the difference between "pc" and "standalone"? I am in NY,NY -
Hi everyone, I am new here and could use some help. I have a piece of junk DVR that was installed with my 2 cameras on my home. It is a "pro video". I do not know much about cameras and DVR's but I had an incident and had to go over my recorded video. I wasn't even half way through the footage when I almost threw the dam DVR out my window because at its fastest fast forward speed, it would have took me 50 minutes to watch and hour worth of footage. All I want is a nice simple DVR that has optimal performance. Also, when I press the buttons on the DVR, if they even work at al, they take an hour...for instance if I hit the play button I would have to wait forever for it to start playing, the same goes for the menu button and so on. I hope you guys can help me find something good. I would like to stay within $500....thanks!
