I’m considering self installing a Lorex 4K camera system at home both inside and out. I have background in installation, electronics and computers programming so that isn't an issue. I have installed high level security system years ago but things have changed alot. I'm looking for some professionals here to review and reassurance me I’m going the right route with my system. I'm spending about $1,200 for this system and I guess the 4K makes the pricey. Lorex seems to have well designed cameras and solid housing for exterior cameras. I know they don't make them. I’m looking at this Lorex 4K system - 4KHDIP822NW LINK – https://www.lorextechnology.com/4k-ip-camera-system/4k-ultra-hd-ip-nvr-security-camera-system-with-4-ip-cameras/4KHDIP822NW-1-p Sorry.. Not sure how to add a URL link here yet. 8 Channel 4K Ultra HD recorder with 2TB HD Model NR9082 (may upgrade to 4 or 6 TB later) 4 Dome cameras using PoE - (2) LNE8974BW 4K with motored 4x zoom (2) LNE8950ABW 4K with digital Zoom. All cameras have microphones and motion detection. I plan to monitor it at home and when travelling on my laptop or Smart Phone. I already have high speed Internet as well as Netgear Cable modem to use. I do want good quality video for high quality video day or night to catch the bad guys. My question or concern is... Is this system right for me or am I going overboard with 4K and only need 2K Have I missed any questions I need to ask myself before buying this system? Your opinions are greatly appreciated especially if you have knowledge the new recorder and new cameras Lorex has in this package. Thank you all

Resolution Frames Per Second (FPS) Per Channel Pixels Per Frame (PPF) 1MP | HD 720P @30fps 1280 x 720 | (921,600 pixels) 2MP | Full HD 1080P @30fps 1920 x 1080 | (2,073,600 pixels) 3MP | Super HD 2K @30fps 2048 x 1536 | (3,145,728 pixels) 4MP | Super HD 2K @30fps 2688 x 1520 | (4,085,760 pixels) 8MP | Ultra HD 4K @15fps 3840 × 2160 | (8,294,400 pixels) The camera sin this system has these resolutions. What should I expect to use at home for reasonable face recognition as well as say car and license plates? Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks -
Planning to Install a Lorex 4K System at home

Thanks for your information. Still on the fence in buying a 4K PoE system for home. So far I agree that motorized cameras are really a waste for a standard home install. Exterior Front and Back doors a few on sides of house and 1 or 2 interior. I still think an 8 channel will be fine which will leave a few channels open if I need to expand. Lorex new HD DVR with 2 or 3 TB HD. I can expand HD in future on my own. Cameras do have mics and rated for exterior mounting. I guess I may buy a few for interior but need to be white and not black. This is the system I'm considering at the moment for home. What do you think? -
I originally wrote this in the CCTV Residential area but think it may go here. I’m considering self installing a Lorex 4K camera system at home both inside and out. Thanks. I may have put this in the wrong forum. CCTV instead of Digital. Not sure if I can move it or just copy it over. -
Which CCTV Camera is best for home
IggyTech replied to mihikasharma1's topic in General Digital Discussion
What type of system do you have installed already if any? What do you want the cameras to do? Just pop in and see the kids playing or 24 hour a day surveillance? Color, Black and White? 1080P, 2K, 3K or 4K resolution? Where do you plan to monitor the video? Phone, Tablet, PC or ? Hope you are able to answer or ask more questions. Thanks
