Need quick help! Video issue with monitor to Kalatel dvr
unit979 posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ok, I just installed a 10ct 320 dvr (Kalatel) in a bar. He wanted to keep the outside cameras (front & back) that I have going to 2 seperate monitors that he had from his old system. The 8 of my cameras are working excellent. His old system was a Wal-Mart style with the cat5 going into the back of the monitors that processed 4 cameras. What I have done was I used one monitor/camera that he already had for the front and the same for the back, so he could easily see people entering & leaving. It looks good on the 2 monitors. The problem I have is when I used the rca (video) and adapted it to coax to run it to the dvr, the pictures are messed up. It has wavy lines that run up the monitor (main monitor for all cameras), kind of like a tracking problem on a VHS tape. It is about a 50' run from his old monitors to the dvr location & main monitor. I even tried running a 50' rca cable with a adapter to bnc & it did the same thing. WHAT IS GOING ON!!! I also install dish network, and have came across a couple of boosters from the cable company. But this being my first main install, I don't know if these type of boosters can be used, or if it would fry the system. Please anyone help if they can. The bar owner is getting a little upset, since the install was done a while back, & I still don't have this resolved. Also, I cant get rest of payment until this is resolved. Thanks in advanced!!! BTW, I AM A NEWBIE!!! Brad Wright (765)251-1110 -
Would something like this work??? http://pc15.flashecom.com/espec2/ssdept.asp?dept_id=008-021 If so, which one. Since the power is supplied through the rj11 cable, would the G.E. dvrme 10ct-320 be able to backfeed enough power to work the cameras? Thanks, Brad

Thanks for the info. I know the cameras are crap, but he isn't wanting to buy new ones. I hate to loose the sale over it, but I'll talk to him again and see what he says. Thanks, Brad

I guy called me to put in a Kalatel dvrm 320-ct-10. He currently has a "Wal-Mart" system in which the video and power is ran through a cat5 type cable. I havn't been doing this long, but is there some sort of converter or box that will adapt/process to bnc for what I need (cat to bnc)? He doesn't want to upgrade his cameras. Sorry if this is a repost. Just looking for quick help. Thanks, Brad

I was looking for an embedded OS dvr with 2+ audio. These are windows based aren't they (http://www.silicor.com)? Thanks, Brad

Which DVR has the most audio inputs? I was wanting to stay with Kalatel, but don't think they have more than 1 channel audio. I am trying to get an account with our local jail. They are seriously lacking video surveillance, but they are also wanting more audio. Any help? Brad

Not sure, but could someone tell me if the system at the bottom of Rory's link is the same as in this link... http://www.pluscctv.com/digital_video.htm The only visual difference I see is the far right control. Are these DigiTek's? If so, this place is selling them for $700 (4CH), 1,100 (8CH), and $1,300 (16CH). This place is about 1 1/2 hr. from my house. If they are total trash, I won't look into them. But a couple people wanting estimates was wanting 4ch dvr with day/night camera's, and this is the only thing in their budget. $1,129.00 for the dvr, cameras, cable, power, tv w/vcr, and everything else needed for a full install. I realize the camera's are cheaper, but if this is all they can afford, I might have to go with it if it means getting or not getting the job. Thanks, Brad

Has anyone done an upgrade from a multiple camera system with multiplexer? Just replace the VCR with a single channel DVR. Is there much quality loss than dumping the multiplexer and putting in a multichanner DVR? Let me know of any suggestions or experiences. Thanks, Brad

I have an unlimited supply of free rg6 cable. Will this be fine to run the camera's? I know that cable isn't the most expensive part of intallations. But if you had all the free rg6 cable you want, would you do it? Also, almost everything I will install is under 250 foot. If for some reason, rg6 isn't good enough, I found decent deals on a couple others. Here are the descriptions: 1. RG-59U Standard Shield, 1000Ft, Pull Box Gauge: 22AWG Impedance: 75OHM Shielding %: 100% AL Stranding: 16/4/0.12/AL Nominal Outside Diameter: 6.0+/-0.15MM $35.00 shipped 2. 500ft of RG59/U Non-Plenum CCTV cable. Manufactured by Genesis Cable Systems, L.L.C $28.00 shipped 3. Commscope 5575 1000-Ft Satellite Rg59 Coax Cable (Spool) 20 AWG, Solid CCS, Series 59, Non-Plenum, 75 Ohm $75.00 shipped Thanks, Brad

I was browsing the VDR's manual, and it didn't say anything about motion recording. Does it not offer it? Since school is only in session about 8 hrs per day, there is about 16 hours that no one is in the schools. However I would like motion recording in case someone broke in!!! What was you trying to say about the search feature? The manual said it can search by camera and time. Thanks, Brad

That might work out fine. They are currently running no audio or remote access at the schools. Like I said, I really didn't read into the VDR much, but I imagine you can record as many cameras as the multiplexor allows, right? As stated before, they are running Pelco multiplexors. I just need to make sure the VDR's are compatible with pelco. Also, does it have the same call back/search options that the others have? Thanks, Brad
-
Thanks, actually I was finally able to get them downloaded. I think I will check into these. I am currently getting set up with a couple of distributors an hour away. Hey, any experiences with the "VDR". I will be hitting the local school system next month. They have nice Pelco cameras and multiplexors. This might be a cheap upgrade for them. From the little I read on the VDR's, they work almost the same as vcr's. Of course with vhs, when I try to play something back on a multipexor, IT SUCKS!!! The recorded tape isn't fluid, and sometimes it jumps off the "called" camera. I actually work as a school cop at one of the schools (part time), so I think I have a good chance of getting an account with them. Anyways, fast replies!!! Thanks, Brad
