CCTV I would like to replace my Lorex 8 camera dvr system with a better networkable DVR, 1 PTZ camera, 5 Color Dome Cameras and 2 reg color cameras. What are the advantages of a PC based DVR vs. a stand alone? Anyone dealt with 123cctv before and their PTZs? Does anyone have recommendations as far as vendors and models??? *8/16 channel stand alone network dvr with 240/480 FPS < $1000 *Good Outdoor PTZ dome cameras on a budget < $700 *Budget Color Dome Cameras with and without varifocal lenses up to <$200 each? *2 reg. box cameras facing back to back installed to a housing unit to monitor North and South positions along side or above the PTZ camera.

I currently have a Pelco DF8A outdoor dome with a aged bubble. I have some DF8A indoor ceiling mount units. Anyone know if I can take a indoor ceiling mount bubble that is the exact size and place the bubble into the lower dome ring of the outdoor housing? Is it interchangable, the bubble part? Thanks in advance!

Ideal PTZ Day/Night Camera for outside of Garage protection

I canceled the PTZ route because of cost and re-evaluated my needs for home observation. For the price of 1 really good new PTZ, I was able to get 3 cameras with nice 5-50mm varifocal lenses to do what a PTZ can do. Now I have 3 cameras giving me non-stop recording at different distances and angles. -
Junction Box Techniques
highspeedphysics replied to moe's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The information was very helpful. I have a question on the setup. I can't seem to find the right outdoor junction boxes at the local home depot to connect the liquid tuff connectors to. What kind of box is that? Is it a outdoor weather proof or just a regular metal box with sealed gasket covering? What kind of adapter is that, that connects to the liquid tuff flex conduit? -
Does anyone know how to setup a Panasonic WV-CS854B? Does it output or compatible with pelco d? The manual says it can do RS485 but I am trying to find out how I can setup the camera settings absent a Panasonic Controller & DVR?

I am in the process of buying a Geovision DVR card kit. I will have up to 5 PTZ cameras I would like to control thru Geovision. I'm going to start with a GV800 and exchange to a 1480 from worldeyecam once I make sure the PTZs are up and my investment is worthwhile. I am thinking I want to start with a budget geovision system and go with What other hardware do I need to connect the 5 PTZs with Geovision? If using a GV-net card or box, how do I terminate all 5 RS-485 cables? I'm new at this. Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm building my own PC based DVR with a Geovision 1480 card. I'd like to hear it from anyone as far as what's the latest motherboard, cpu and ram to use? I did some looking around and the last guy who described his build with Geo is about 6 months old. Thanks!

Check your e-mail. I'm located in your area and would like to buy a few of these. Thanks!

Building PC - Motherboard suggestions?
highspeedphysics replied to highspeedphysics's topic in Geovision
How about a good rack mount chassis case and extra fan recommendations? If I understand correctly, PTZ cameras can be controlled thru Geovision but it requires an adapter? How does that work and what do I need to get 4 PTZs hooked up with Geovision controlling it. I currently have two spare dell optiplex 620s with p4 HT. Unfortunately the form factor is a desktop and not minitower so there is a problem with the smaller PCI slot. -
Thanks for the ideas. I have re-evaluated my needs and would like to seek recommendations where to get a good deal on a geovision 16 port card? What's a few PTZ for outdoor use with 22x optical zoom? What's a few fixed color day/night camera?

This installation is for my personal home. I am a IT professional and fairly savy with hooking these up myself. I've looked around at DVRs and settled on Avtech. Where can I get a good priced 8 channel or 16 channel Avtech AVC787. Is it signifigantly cheaper to go without the built in DVD writer and hookup a after market one? Thanks in advance.
