Thanks for the input! Should I be concerned about excessive wattage? I have not run across wattage limit on a CCTV camera prior to this and to be quite honest, i am not sure what the max Watt limit means (is it per day or is it instantaneous max watt?).

Hello, I am looking for some feedback for power supply for HikVision DS-2CD2D14WD/M camera. The box did not come with a power supply, due to the long weekend I have not been able to get in touch with the seller. With that said, I am hoping someone here either knows or has experience working with this camera and can answer some question for power supply. I tried googling for manufacture recommended PS but all I got were spec sheets. The specification sheet says to use a 12VDC PS with 3W max, however the AMP is not mentioned. I have some other CCTV camera PS laying around which meet the 12VDC requirement, but the amp for those is around 1.11A. Will that PS be sufficient and adequate to power the hikvision camera? I am concerned about 3W max limit (not sure how I could calculate that for my PS). Thnx for your attention and feedback!

The total PoE budget for the should be enough to power the cameras, and the switch is 802.3af standard compliant. My questions are: 1. What would be recommended bandwidth for 12/14 cameras? 2. Does the switch make difference in respect to software for PC and ONVIF capabilities of the camera? 3. I HAVE to use ONVIF cameras, correct? 4. Is blue iris the best possible solution for recording software? (I don't mind an upfront payment, however I might consider a subscription service if the benefits provide value). 5. How important is the difference between managed/smart/unmanaged switch for IP-Camera purpose? 6. Are there alternatives that you would use or recommend (short summation on why?) 7. Also, for IP Camera purposes, is there a preferred Ethernet cable to use i.e cat5, 5e, 6, or 6a?

What is the maximum distance you can reliable receive good signal on ethernet? I am thinking of running a wire for about 250/300ft. Would that be too far for ethernet (POE)? If so what are the alternatives? Thanks

I appologize for piggy backing, but I am in very similar situation. I have build computers and DVR systems before, but once I had a suitable solution I ignored the CCTV scene until now. I have a question on the set up, so for PCNVR the connection flow chart would be (PC Tower + Decoding/Recording Software) --> Switch <--- IP Cameras) For the switch, what are some of the crucial bottlenecks to avoid? Is bandwidth limitation a factor, how about MP's on the camera, I want to record 8 cameras at 30 fps at 2MP what is the maximum bandwidth required? Any help is really appreciated, Thanks

Hello folks, My camera (I use to record a customers face as they come to cash register) has stopped working; I originally got it from dome camera by removing the IR and that seemed to work for about 6 months until now, and I need a replacement for it. This time around I would like to get a miniature camera, and not dome camera-convert but I am not sure what the technical difference are between dome and miniature and what the $ range should be, (I would like some decent but nothing professional grade). Do you have a list of recomended HDD? Samsung? WD? Seagate? Looking for 2TB. I would like to use the Red's for NAS, but atm my hands are tied with WD20EARS going down and until I can find a more reliable HDD for primary storage. Thanks!

Hey folks, I have a question about a replacement HD for my DVR. Last week I purchased two WD RED WD20EFRX drives, anticipating to add it as an extra storage for pre-installed WD20EARS. However, over the weekend, before I even had the chance to install my new HD's the WD20EARS crashed, and since I'm only at the sight on weekends I didn't notice this until yesterday. On to my question are the WD20EFRX sufficient and reliable enough to use as primary storage? Should I purchase a WD Black HDD for primary storage or anyone here have enough experience with WDRED to give some assurance with RED as primary storage? Thnx.

LOL, ya. I'm not exactly tyring to identify a bank robber.. just a small little shop and need to keep track of where the customers are. $100 for lens might be a bit over kill for me.

I do have another camera pointing at the entry at close range to get an accurate "head shot", What i had meant by face recognition was to be able to at least (with very little doubt) tell apart an individual as they walk cross the area (more or less). I'm just wondering what some of the users on the forum use for wide angle camera and certain technical understanding behind their choice. I
