  1. Hello, I am looking for some feedback for power supply for HikVision DS-2CD2D14WD/M camera. The box did not come with a power supply, due to the long weekend I have not been able to get in touch with the seller. With that said, I am hoping someone here either knows or has experience working with this camera and can answer some question for power supply. I tried googling for manufacture recommended PS but all I got were spec sheets. The specification sheet says to use a 12VDC PS with 3W max, however the AMP is not mentioned. I have some other CCTV camera PS laying around which meet the 12VDC requirement, but the amp for those is around 1.11A. Will that PS be sufficient and adequate to power the hikvision camera? I am concerned about 3W max limit (not sure how I could calculate that for my PS). Thnx for your attention and feedback!
  2. Great, thnx for the assurance!
  3. Thanks for the input! Should I be concerned about excessive wattage? I have not run across wattage limit on a CCTV camera prior to this and to be quite honest, i am not sure what the max Watt limit means (is it per day or is it instantaneous max watt?).
  4. **This is a cross-post from General Discussion Section, I wasn't able to get a reply on that forums and I am hoping this is the correct sub-forum. ** Hello, I would appreciate your opinion on a network switch I cam considering on using for my first ever IP-Camera set up. I decided to use a PC Based option as it would allow me expand the storage space if my needs ever increased (and allow me to have reasonable budget for the time being). I am considering on using these: Switch 1: http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/deta ... l#overview Switch 2: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-ProSAFE-F ... 0000-30000 I will probably run 12/14 cameras with ~3 being at 3mp and ~2 at 2mp and ~8 at 1.3mp. The total PoE budget for the should be enough to power the cameras, and the switch is 802.3af standard compliant. My questions are: 1. What would be recommended bandwidth for 12/14 cameras? 2. Does the switch make difference in respect to software for PC and ONVIF capabilities of the camera? 3. I HAVE to use ONVIF cameras, correct? 4. Is blue iris the best possible solution for recording software? (I don't mind an upfront payment, however I might consider a subscription service if the benefits provide value). 5. How important is the difference between managed/smart/unmanaged switch for IP-Camera purpose? 6. Are there alternatives that you would use or recommend (short summation on why?) 7. Do the other features (securities.. etc) matter for performance? Thank you for the feedback.

  6. Bump! I appreciate your opinion on a good PoE Switch and PC Software. Thanks for your feedback!
  7. Also, for IP Camera purposes, is there a preferred Ethernet cable to use i.e cat5, 5e, 6, or 6a?
  8. What is the maximum distance you can reliable receive good signal on ethernet? I am thinking of running a wire for about 250/300ft. Would that be too far for ethernet (POE)? If so what are the alternatives? Thanks

    Piecing together a system

I appologize for piggy backing, but I am in very similar situation. I have build computers and DVR systems before, but once I had a suitable solution I ignored the CCTV scene until now. I have a question on the set up, so for PCNVR the connection flow chart would be (PC Tower + Decoding/Recording Software) --> Switch <--- IP Cameras) For the switch, what are some of the crucial bottlenecks to avoid? Is bandwidth limitation a factor, how about MP's on the camera, I want to record 8 cameras at 30 fps at 2MP what is the maximum bandwidth required? Any help is really appreciated, Thanks
  10. Hello folks, My camera (I use to record a customers face as they come to cash register) has stopped working; I originally got it from dome camera by removing the IR and that seemed to work for about 6 months until now, and I need a replacement for it. This time around I would like to get a miniature camera, and not dome camera-convert but I am not sure what the technical difference are between dome and miniature and what the $ range should be, (I would like some decent but nothing professional grade). Any directional help is appreciated. *EDIT* Does any one experience with the CNB Monalisa chip camears... http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product_list.php?maxx=1&midx=7&smxx=29 Where can I find images of the recording or videos of their resolution? And can any one tell me what the major difference is between those cameras (besides the adjustable lens). What is the difference between pinhole lens and non-pinhole lens? Thanks.
  11. Do you have a list of recomended HDD? Samsung? WD? Seagate? Looking for 2TB. I would like to use the Red's for NAS, but atm my hands are tied with WD20EARS going down and until I can find a more reliable HDD for primary storage. Thanks!
  12. Hey folks, I have a question about a replacement HD for my DVR. Last week I purchased two WD RED WD20EFRX drives, anticipating to add it as an extra storage for pre-installed WD20EARS. However, over the weekend, before I even had the chance to install my new HD's the WD20EARS crashed, and since I'm only at the sight on weekends I didn't notice this until yesterday. On to my question are the WD20EFRX sufficient and reliable enough to use as primary storage? Should I purchase a WD Black HDD for primary storage or anyone here have enough experience with WDRED to give some assurance with RED as primary storage? Thnx.

A wideangle camera with decent specs.

I'm not at the premist atm, I will be able to upload a picture later tomorrow. It a fairly well lit room... there is minor backlight but not significant to darken the image.
  14. Hey folks, I'm looking for a wide angle camera with decent specs. My DVR is D1 compatible and don't for see it being a performance bottleneck. I'd say my range is around $100, but I'd put more emphasis on overall value (Performance/price) of the product. I'd seen some bullet camera's from google search but I wanted to get your opinions on what you all think are some good wideangle cameras (IR is optional). If you don't mind, can you please provide a small description as to you why you like the camera (help a nobbie understand the technology behind the tool). Thanx!

LOL, ya. I'm not exactly tyring to identify a bank robber.. just a small little shop and need to keep track of where the customers are. $100 for lens might be a bit over kill for me.

A wideangle camera with decent specs.

I do have another camera pointing at the entry at close range to get an accurate "head shot", What i had meant by face recognition was to be able to at least (with very little doubt) tell apart an individual as they walk cross the area (more or less). I'm just wondering what some of the users on the forum use for wide angle camera and certain technical understanding behind their choice. I

Hey tms233, Thnx for a quick reply! This camera is for a commercial property and indoors with well lit area. I would say the coverage depth is at most maybe 25-30 feet. I would like it show enough details to make out their face (I understand I might not be able to get a clear look w/ wide angle and rather long distance at that). I'll have to do a bit more research into WDR, DNR and True Day and night.
  18. Ahh... thanks for clearing that up. Know of any place where I can find the PSU? I've tried on several cctv sites but haven't found any thing.. nothing at local Radio Shack either.
  19. Hello folks, I have few leftover camera's from an old cassette player CCTV setup. The camera's that I have, not sure if they are in working conditions; been sitting around for good 3/4 years now. One is an Ultrak KC200CN and the other two are KC-2A. I recently purchased QVIS HD 16ch dvr, and have been looking for ways to connect this camera's to it. Unfortunately, this guys have RJ11E cables, and I have able to find an adapter to split the RJ11E into BNC video and power source. I am running into a problem in locating the proper power source. The info lable on camera it self states it requires a 15V dc at 5watts for KC-2A and 15V dc at 3 watts for KC200CN. Initially they were connected to the monitor and it was supplying the power to the cameras. Is it possible for me find a power adapter to meet those requirement, or are they not worth it (financially) I don't want to spend $30 for an adapter when I can get a new camera for another 50/60... Any help is greatly appreciated.
  20. Hi everyone, my first request on forum, but i'm still in dire need for the converter. I read on of the topic in forum that a user got a RJ11E to BNC converter (i would leave him a PM, but i need 10 post to do so ). I have looked on internet, but i can't find one, most i found were either BNC to RJ11E (on one of the forums i read that they only work one way not the other way) and the onces i found for RJ11E to BNC were roughly 100$+. I'd rather get a new camera than to pay 100. my request is that, if someone knows of a place i can find a converter FROM RJ11E to BNC, under maybe 30/40 $, can you guide me to its location. secondly, am i correct in assuming that a BNC to RJ11E wouldn't work the other way around. From what I've noticed is that a RJ11E doesn't need external power supply, but all of BNC camera's Do. If the converter were to work, how can a BNC to RJ11E transfer the power to RJ11E camera. Thank You for your help.

    RJ11E to BNC converter

hmm.... I don't think* that's what i'm looking for. The object you mentioned allows me to use BNC camera on a RJ11E monitor. I want to use RJ11E camera on a BNC (pci card) monitor. Basically RJ11E could comeout from camera and i would use the converter to hook it to my computer. but before i discard the item... let me clear few option that i think it might work as. I can plug this into the camera, and use the Power-cord and power adapter to power the camera while bnc goes to pc... that might work, but now i'll have to find out what type of power adapter i would need for my camera.
