  1. I have been talking with a Videx supplier but I really want to find out how the Keyscan System V works. I understand that with the System V you would need the software, an ACU, and a K-PROX Proximity Reader. For my application I would also need the NETCOM2. What I don't understand is what is the hardware I need for the door? Do regular strikers work? From the diagram it looked like there needs to be an electronic door lock, door contact and a request to exit button. Can anyone provide me some information on this?

    Peephole Camera - Apartment Install

Wow.. even Rory doesn't know about these cameras.. now I don't feel so bad. It doesn't look like you would need a locksmith for the install of the camera, but I don't know how they expect us to wire these... I am thinking I might be able to bring it to the door corner with some extra slack. Then run the cable down the trim to the floor and over and back up to a plug. That would take care of power for the transmitter and camera. I think I will attempt this.. wish me luck hahaha. I will post pictures on final install but it won't be for another month.

    Peephole Camera - Apartment Install

Thomas, Do you know how you would be able to wire power on a door? Do they have contact power systems where you could run the wire up the top of the door to a contact then the wire at the frame of the door to a plug?
  4. Hey guys, I have done quite a few camera installs but they have all been hard wired with easy access to ceiling panels. I would like to install a peephole camera in my front door, however I am having trouble grasping how to install these. I understand you replace the peephole but how do you get electricity to the camera and transmitter? I researched wireless camera placement and found a lot of info, however it didn't explain how to get power to the transmitter/camera without using battery packs that must be replaced very frequently. Any recommendations? I have to use wireless as wired is not an option where I am.
  5. Hey guys, I am looking for a system that will run 1 to 2 doors and can integrate into a computer system. We have offices all around the country with one centralized IT department for managing things like this. I need the system to do the following: 1 Key to many offices Remove access for a user remotely Have time controls for accessing the office Proximity Key fob or even an electronic key would work Detailed logging of entry (if possible to a central server) If anyone knows which system would be good for an application I need all the help I can get. I have searched Google up and down and am unable to find a decent system that does this... if one even exists. Thanx, Chuck

    Geovision GV800V2 USB Dongle

Thanx guys for laying it out. I guess I will stick with my V2 as it works well. I guess they are stopping development of the V2 board in favor of all the V3 software?

Is there any way to get a V3 updated board if I don't know the vendor?

    Geovision GV800V2 USB Dongle

Hey guys I saw a post on where to get a USB dongle but it was never answered so I am going to give it a try. I don't know where I purchased my card from since it has been over a year. I am looking to get the dongle and I want to make sure it will work with the V2 as I heard there was a V3 out now. Oh Also I just tried to load the 6.05-->6.11 drivers and it told me that my card was out of date and needed to be updated by my vendor... any ideas? Thanx, Chuck

    GE StoreSafe

The PRO2 is slightly more than I want to pay, is the only difference really from the standard and PRO2 the new Wavejet and the slightly upgraded HD?

    GE StoreSafe

On the sites I am looking I only see pricing for SDR and SDR Pro not Pro2. Do you know what the 4-channel 40 gig goes for approx? Thanx, Chuck

    GE StoreSafe

I commonly use B&W for all but the door. All of the cameras are indoor cameras. These are all setups for a single company that has many branches.

    GE StoreSafe

Rory, This is for indoor cameras only. I found the unit for $1,231.00 off froogle. And I usually use the Speco CVC-7706DNV on the front door followed with a few domes, not sure which ones yet. I usually use cheap 50-$100 ones. Any recommendations? Thanx, Chuck

    GE StoreSafe

Hey guys I am looking for a 4 Channel Standalone DVR I have used AverMedia and GEO PC based DVRs and I am ready for standalone. What I am looking for is aDVR that is easy to view and administrate remotly and can record in good quality and speed. Do you think the StoreSafe fits that? My budget is under $2000 for 4 cameras and the DVR unit. Also is it possible to upgrade these unit's HDs? Or are they only upgradable from the factory? As +$500 for a 200gig HD is outragous. Thanx, Chuck
  14. I am still getting use to the Geo. I have got very use to the Aver interface for the remote manager, I like it much more than the Geo. The codec on the Geo is much better than the Aver however I get almost live video even over the internet. The Aver appears to have slightly better quality when in high resolution mode. If I were linking multiple sites to a central command I would go Geo all the way but I don't think I could recommend it over the Aver to a home user. However the Geo software package overall is much better than Aver, mainly on the server side, and the remote client forces your computer into a specific resolution which is annoying.
  15. Hey guys I just wanted to thank you all for your help in the past and the present, especially Rory. I know I always enjoyed seeing what different cameras/systems did before I purchased, so I thought these could help. Here are the specs that I ended up going with: Pics: http://www.the-vulture.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=12 Ill put up day time pics as soon as I can get shots without people in them. Home: GV800 4 Sony SSC-M383 High Res B&W with 4-12mm Auto Iris Lense in 12" Ultrak Weatherproof housings. I have 2 Extreme CCTV EX26s left to mount Offices: Currently 3 offices, soon to be 7 offices AverMedia MP3000s B&W Dome Cameras: Cheap KT&C Domes (Work great for their cheap price of $58 ) Color Infrared Cameras: 1 at every front door, SV-Door and Jax-Door use a camera like the Speco DVD-960IR however they are black and have a bad mounting system. SC-Main is a HEAT by Speco DVD-770DN I like these much better and they seem to do their job. These systems are pretty cheap to build and provide a good amount of security. You can see by my pic we recently had a break-in and he was caught on DV Suggestions are welcome, I was thinking about trying out one of those ExtremeCCTV EX11s however their price makes them seem like they might be overkill for a front door application.
