Hi, We have been requested to install a CCTV camera that will look at the sky (the application has not been passed on, so don't ask me why!). In the past, if a camera was pointed directly at the sun, this would result in the CCD loosing pixels - at night, in a completely dark environment it would look like stars (dead pixels show up as white dots). Can anyone offer any advice, or any filter that we can put on the lens to improve the image or safeguard it from direct sunlight (which is kind of difficult when the camera is aimed at the sky!!) Hi, Does anyone use this software? I was wondering whether the PAL format had a de-interlace filter yet? I use a much older version (MUCH older!) as I am restricted to this due to firmware compatibility on my board. I was thinking about upgrading it. I can find a user manual for 5.1.1.0, so I have read all these features, but cannot find a manual for a higher version than this. Any new features, like automatic video levels, de-interlace, etc? Any comments would be appretiated! Thanks, Matt

Mines been working for years (about 4 years) on Window 2000 with very little problems. Wish I could upgrade the software, but my boards firmware is old, so I cannot go beyond v 2.50.16.0 (from 2004!!) - Koditec software. Also, can no longer connect remotely from my main PC as it is now VISTA!! (doesn't work!)

I need to upgrade my cctv pc. Usually I would goto DABS.COM and select a microstar, ASUS or simular motherboard (that does not use the VIA chipset) and build a PC. Though, nowadays to just buy a complete PC from DELL "WITH TFT MONITOR/Keyboard/mouse/etc" is cheaper than building a new PC from components. I wanted to use DELL because their low-end PCs are cheap (£250-£350). It will be replacing a cheapy PC world "fox-pro" system that lasted about 2 years - that was only a "really cheap" low end PC! I didn't want to pay £500 upwards for a PC, then have to buy the DVR card on top of that. This is only for a home system, not a customer so it doesn't need to be anything special. Matt

If you bought the card off ebay (or other simular site), how about going back there and find another unit that is the same as yours, then post the URL to it here. Then we can see what it looks like by visiting ebay.

Do a search on this forum for "koditec" and you'll find lots of information. The anykeeper DVR card has a firmware chip. If it is an older style card (as mine is) you are limited to the version you mention. If you try to use a higher version on an older card, then it will say "DVR card not found" at the end of the installation. If you want to use the latest Anykeeper/Koditec software, you'll have to buy a newer DVR card such as these: http://anko-tech.com/products/wdt.htm (this is only a search that I did, use it to see the latest cards) (I would personally go with Geovision or Avermedia if you are looking at replacing your card though!) I viewed my anykeeper card over the net. This is how I did it... Before you read on, I am not trying to promote logmein.com, but i did find it useful! What I did is registered with logmein.com which is remote access software (allow you to control your pc from somewhere else over the internet). You get one months free trial, but after a month it's still free just to remote access your pc (you don't get the file transfering after a month and other bits you had before, unless you pay). This is what I did. (The DVR card is at my home, I am accessing it from my office) 1) Install the logmein software on my home PC with the DVR card. 2) I went into my office the next day. 3) Installed remote.exe (Anykeeper/Koditec remote live/playback software) on the PC in my office. 4) Go on the internet (in the office) and goto logmein.com and you can see and control your home PC's desktop. 5) Using this remote software, I browsed my router at home and found my IP address of my router (I don't have a static IP address). I also made changes as to forwarding ports that I forgot to do earlier. 6) Typed the IP address of my home PC into the Koditec remote software at my office, and tried to connect. (make sure the port number is the same on the DVR PC). 7) It didn't work! ("cannot find server", or something) A setting was wrong in my router/firewall at home, so I changed it from my office using logmein software. 9) Try to connect again - it worked! (very slow though). With this logmein software, I could be in 2 places at once and solved the problem with a little bit of fiddling around with router settings! Thats what I did anyway! Matt

Hi, I have a few questions on the NV3000 Avermedia card. Sorry to ask so many questions. I have been looking at the Geovision range but have decided not to get one as I prefer the Avermedia software. I have not tried it, but I can get a good idea by looking at the relevant user manuals. *Q1* I am currently using an 'Anykeeper' DVR card (Koditec software), but want to upgrade it. My PC is 1.8ghz. I am interested in purchasing 4x NV3000 DVR cards(16 cameras). I realise that the spec suggests a 2.4ghz, but IN YOUR EXPERIENCE do you think 1.8ghz will work?(even if it's working hard). I thought maybe the NV3000 would work with a lower CPU than the NV5000. *Q2* Does the NV3000 have any inputs/outputs (relay outputs & eg, PIR inputs). In the user manual, it does not show the NV3000 card as having any. *Q3* What software are you using? I don't know what versions they are but I'll describe them as: The Blue/yellow/grey GUI? (looks like the flagship software) The grey GUI? (not as 'good looking' or as colourful as the above!) or the EYES PRO software? *Q4* Does the remote playback utility have a 'timeline/disk map' (sorry to ask about this again!). I think it does but I am not sure. Looking at the user manual, under the playback controls (play,rew,etc) is a clock: 00-01-02-etc-21-22-23. Just below this is a blue/red bar. Does the blue bar show VMD recording? All my cameras are on VMD. My current DVR has this feature! It's so easy to look at this 24hour clock grid and see all the time periods that have been recorded. Does anyone know whether Geovision Control Centre (with v8) is provided with the DVR software, or do you have to pay for it seperately? Also, does the dongle need to be upgraded to use this application? I am interested to buy a geovision card after months and months of deciding and thought that the remote applications were a little simplistic. Now I have seen the Control Centre, it looks like it emulates the same functions as the DVR from a remote PC. In this case, what is the point of using the webcam and remote playback applications, why not just use Control Centre everytime? Matt

So you are not using version 8? But if you were using version 8, then you have to install control centre from the CD, then update it with v8.02 from the Geovision website? This means that you cannot use any software on the website without your original CD. The only software on the Geovision website are just upgrades, meaning you need your original CD (and possibly dongle?). Does this sound about right?

Yeah, please check it out and post your findings. I've been months of trying to decide which DVR to get, Geovision has it all (except a diskmap (timeline) that is!). If the Control Centre has all the functions of the main DVR, then thats brilliant! Matt

Rory, I envy your programming knowledge to use the development software to make your own software for GeoVision. I learnt how to program using a ZX Spectrum and moved up to QBasic. But although I know QBasic very well, never moved much beyond it. I do a little Visual Basic, but now I have a 2 year old I don't get any time to practice with anything else! I am assuming that you are using version 7.xx? I remember you saying that the developement software for v8 wasn't out, and you didn't expect it to be out for a while yet. Remember? this was when I was discussing the lack of a 'timeline' (file map) on the playback screen. Matt

Difficult to write about version 8 in brackets, without getting sunglasses v8)! So with the free version, it does not need to be added to the dongle and it will emulate all the functions as per the server. It will only be a system for my house, so one user, 16 cameras, so I will have no problem with the limitations over the pro version. Still leaves me with the question... I am looking to replace my WDT 2016 (Anykeeper) card. I have sent many emails to many suppliers, but I cannot make up my mind. I feel a little guilty about asking questions about what 'I' want, but thereagain I do alot of research first, and try to help others on this forum with what I know! Maybe I am too much of a perfectionist. I look at things and think "how can I make this better". That cannot be too much of a bad thing can it? This is what I am after: * De-interlace filter is VERY important (see image at bottom of page) * The DVR computer is hidden, so I will be using the REMOTE APPLICATIONS for access to the DVR. Therefore, the remote software should be good (setting up, replay, live view). * Inputs for 12-16 cameras. * Video "timeline" is also important to me. It makes 'at a glance' viewing of last nights VMD/PIR recordings easy! (see image at bottom of page). * Sending an Email (with snap-shot image) when an event happens (probably from an input). * I will be using inputs (PIR's) and output relays. If they are built onto the card it would be a plus, but they can be seperate. I have looked at Geovision and liked it, but the playback software appeared a little simple with no timeline. AverMedia looks good, and is an option. Can anyone recommend anything else? My current Anykeeper DVR card (with koditec s/w) fits the bill, but no more updates are available for my card and no de-interlace filter. I don't really want to spend alot of money replacing graphics cards to attempt to solve this problem-rather spend it on a better DVR. Many many thanks Matt

I see! There is a plug-in chip on the card, I thought this was the firmware chip. You mentioned about the cards you would love to get rid of, do you want to sell one (or maybe 2)? (this is providing they are the latest firmware). PM me if you do. Thanks. Matt

Hi Thomas, Do you know anything about the 'firmware chip' on these cards? I am currently looking at buying another DVR (possibly GeoVision), but would prefer to stay with Anykeeper for reasons that I won't bore you with! I want to use a new version of Anykeeper software (or Koditec, what ever!), but if I install any version higher than what I am using now, it says "DVR card not found" at the end of the install. I understand from previous posts on this site, it is because of the firmware (old version). Is this firmware chip simply 'replaceable'? ..or are the components on the card different on the newer cards? If you have a newer version card, are you willing to sell a card? Many thanks, Matt

We have installed maybe 50-60 of these units. Not sure exactly why we have chosen this particular brand, but we have been installing these for a few years now. They have excellent monitor (spot/multiscreen support) and to upgrade an old multiplexer/vcr system to a sprite couldn't be easier as the sprites are fairly small. We get lots of problems with the Maxtor hard drives they use. Anyone else have any experiences with these units? (good or bad)

I don't understand. You appear to be refering to a particular DVR card, but your have failed to mention it!? What DVR card do you mean? If you want to attach an image to your post, upload your image to a site. I use villagephotos.com. Then use the "URL" button when you enter the message and type in the web address (which can be copied from a link in villagephotos.com) Good luck. Matt
