I've had one mounted right side up for about... 11 months now without a problem at all. I would say that part of the reasoning behind this would simply be the fact that your controls are going to be really weird inputting commands into the controller to move it. But hey, go for it! You should be fine but I don't know the "mechanics" of the ptz's I just generally know applications they are in and how they respond to them. I'm a field testerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Thanks, John

12V PSU which DC end connector is the norm -2.1mm or 2.5mm?
Smit9352 replied to peskywinnets's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
2.1mm DC plugs are what we use also, we sell them in case customer do not want to cut the wires on the camera (warranty purposes) so they plug those male plugs in and run their wire to those. Thanks, John -

Which will lead the customer to "upgrade" in the near future shortly after you install that indoor dome outside. Thus making another trip out there for you. Hope it's not a far drive! Goodluck, John

Solution req. for installtions of speed dome in rainy area
Smit9352 replied to kalpesh_nikumbh's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Solve the inside with that then goto the outside and use Rain-X on the outside or a product like it. Where the position is you can't put something above it to get rain further away from it when it falls? Thanks, John -

White vertical lines-power supply?
Smit9352 replied to mcspooge's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Where are you located that you had to purchase a PAL version? Also with the power supply for the camera I know if it calls for 300mA @ 12VDC he'll be fine if the 12VDC@1AMP is regulated. As far as the problem have you checked your wiring or made sure the camera isn't grounded out on something? Thanks, John -
First Outdooor Installation - some advice needed..
Smit9352 replied to brianoftheforum's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Outdoor boxes like http://tinyurl.com/57zdcb if you cannot make your connections inside of the camera. The boxes for outdoor tho only use those if you can't get the cable connectors into the housing. Also you can pick them up at like... Home Depot or Lowes. B series connectors should work fine http://tinyurl.com/5q2amy or if you get time solder/heat shrink it. (I <3 Soldering) Goodluck, John -

First Outdooor Installation - some advice needed..
Smit9352 replied to brianoftheforum's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
First Question: I use silicone when going into the side of a building or home. But don't overdue it as you can make it look horrible if you put to much or not work if you put to little. Second Question: This strongly depends on the camera itself as if you do not have room in the housing then you would want them in a plastic electrical box. If you do have room then always put the connection in the cameras housing but do not compromise the cameras weather resistant capabilities. Anything else? Well depends on how far you want to take it, you could use like a conduit type to put the wire in or depending on how you ran the wire use those small "clamps" that the cable company uses to clamp the wire every 5-10ft and keep it all straight. setting up cctv cam for 1000ft distance
Smit9352 replied to DigitalSource's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
That's not to to bad. I think you could get away with using the Coax RG-59 up to around 1,000 and be just fine. Is this going to be direct burial or suspended? What are your limitations? -
In my opinion it's always been about ease of use for the customer as they are the ones that are going to be using it constantly. Also just remember, if they are not comfortable with using the unit take a guess who's going to be getting a service call even over the smallest thing? Yep... you are. I use a unit from T.O.M Technology that has a great interface as well as easy to get through and do probably anything you want seamlessly and easily. If any of you decide to get away from those units you're using and need more info on mine I know my unit inside and out just gimme a buzz. But just some of it's small specs are 4-8-16 channel unit all 120fps Built in CDRW and VGA/Svideo/BNC Output. 1 - HDD Capable and up to 750gb max. Lots of other specs but I won't clog this thread with it. Holla, John

Bruce, Not to be rude (it's going to come out that way) but if you're looking to buy a monitor then say so, if you're looking to sell a monitor say so. It's not needed to "mislead" people on the forums as in the beginning you seemed as if you had no guidance on which to use and wanted some insight and now your a specialist?... What makes your monitor better than the other 3 I purchase now? Daewoo, Hi-Sharp and Sony. Send me a free demo?... Give us some facts on your companies monitors. Thanks, John
-
I prefer to use CRT monitors if space is not a problem but if it is I use the LCD's. Most customers if they see a CRT then the LCD monitor they will make room to use a CRT. I think the image is just that much clearer. Thanks, John

DVR - DVP Remote access problem¬!
Smit9352 replied to viconmedia's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
most computer techs should be able to help. Welp, what you could do is use TeamViewer3 on your pc if it's on the network with the DVR and let someone that's more familiar remote into it and try setting it up for you. But you would have to program the information into the dvr yourself. Either this or you may want to try your hand at using www.portforward.com Let us know! Goodluck!, John -
Hopefully you at least got paid. Also keep this in mind, if he ever has a camera go out or something done on the dvr or heck even cameras moved, you can't go on his property so he's just going to have to pay someone to come do it for him. He'll kick himself in the long run but you should be kicking your friend in the short term.

500mA or 1A ? Does it really matter?
Smit9352 replied to magicsid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
There's a good argument that could be made concerning this as I've seen first hand benefits from running a stronger power supply on longer runs (1000+ ft.) and have had cameras get a voltage/power drop (I know there two different things) over that long of a run which then required a larger power supply to get the camera up and functioning properly. Maybe it's all in my head? Thanks, John -
Very good reading on your end actually. I like the fact that you showed the total cost of hiring a police officer vs the cost of installing a full cctv system as well, that just goes to show you the overall value of a cctv system. Also keep this in mind with police officers vs. cctv systems... CCTV Cameras cannot be bribed... Don't fall asleep at the job... Work 24/7 and don't get paid overtime... Just a couple positives to the cctv camera vs the regular police officer. Thanks, John

500mA or 1A ? Does it really matter?
Smit9352 replied to magicsid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I agree, I've always had customers get 1amp even for 300mA and 500mA applications because you're never 100% sure of the distance that customer is going to run and if there will be a power/voltage drop over the said distance. I like to be over not under We now have all of our power supplies here as regulated so now there's no problem with using something larger than necessary as the camera is only going to draw the mA it needs to function properly. Thanks, John -
http://tinyurl.com/5psppm gives you a link to one in a standard 12" enclosure that fits in a drop ceiling tile like the above post are referring to. I'd use one of these which may be noticed but noone will be sure of which way the camera is pointing compared to a homemade dome cover that they can see through possibly. Thanks, John

Welcome aboard! Is all you want it to do is be able to remote view it? Or were you actually looking to record also? Thanks, John

You're the one Aaron called and told me stopped by! I've stopped doing most of the shows since I now have a girlfriend I live with and don't really like traveling without her. But yep, that was us! If you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask! Support the forums? It's our pleasure! This place is great and I like the fact we don't have anyone on here that's very rude or unhelpful. Thanks guys, John
