I would have loved to have gone IP but unfortunately everything is covert. I cannot wait for covert IP cams. Thanks guys. I am going to stick with coax. it may be a lot more cable to handle but at least i should get a decent signal

No. I just changed a few of the names to protect the innocent. lets call this a hypothetical situation

Hi guys. Currently i use LJD Colossus DVRs but these are just too big now. I need a standalone DVR capable of writing to DVD, 8 channels of audio and 8 channels of video. Size needs to be as small as possible. The LJD is 19" x 19" and just too large. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

I was in the exact same position as yourself and i went for the Geovision 1480. Cannot complain at all. A couple of quirks with the software, but i just have strange needs. The installation was very easy. The capability of the card is great. Running 16 cams and 16 microphones all into the 1 computers, and just so many features. Incidentally, i would only go for this with Intel based chipsets and processors. Anything else can cause problems apparently.

Hi guys, again. I am getting there slowly. So far i have found out that the best way for me to be able to view 64 channels all at once is through VMD in control center. According to the manuals this is not the way its done but it seems to work for me so far. I can switch cameras and use the PTZ function. The only problem i am having is getting audio. no matter what i go through i can't seem to get audio and video monitoring together. In VMD i can select only video channels. Actually at the DVR machine i can view any video channel and just right click on any channel and go WaveOut which lets me listen to that mic. Is there anyway i can do this from a remote machine over the network? Thanks. (btw - i will be going for training with ezcctv so i may get there in the end)
-
Thanks Andy. Yeah i could get audio that way. Hope the client is happy getting it that way. It just looks like i have the system set up completely wrong. Would you have any advice? Need to connect to 4 Geovision servers, see all channels at once and be able to access to audio on all channels? Also, it seems that if an audio channel is occupied and the adjacent video channel isn't, the system will not allow an export of the audio. There is only save .avi and not .wav. Can't wait to get some training.

No replies to this is slightly worrying. I have based my enitre system around Geovision on the information given to me by several companies. All agreed that Geovision software/hardware could be used to view 64 channels over a network of audio and video. Already i have found out that this is not entirely true as there are a lot of limitations on playback and recording of audio.

Now i am new to this whole thing and 8.2 is my first time with Geovision but i do have a few problems/suggestions for the software. Audio/Video Log - Viewing previous recordings i would like to be able to merge any video channel with any audio channel rather than just the two linked channels. Camera/Audio Install - You are able to rename camera channels. Why not audio. This would help me greatly. Just a few suggestions.......

Yup. Been very helpful for me too. Andy and Ezcctv. Thanks

Call me a newb, but i am really confused by this now. I am starting to wonder whether what i am actually after is possible. Trying to get it to work on one server is bad enough, never mind all 4 at once. From the actual server i am able to do everything i want. See all cameras, listen to any audio channel, control any ptz, watch any recorded feeds. I would like to do this remotely too. Through Control Center i can add my server as a host. I can see any of the cameras individually from the host list. The PTZ function only comes up for cameras that don't have PTZ. The ones that do, do not allow me to select it. When i select the audio in any camera view, i get the same audio channel every time. If i create a VMD group, and add all my cameras and view through the Matrix i can see 64 cameras - GREAT. I can control the PTZs - GREAT. I cannot listen to any audio channel. So close yet so far. When i go to remoteviewlog to see previous recordings. The audio channels that have no cameras do not appear to have any recordings of the audio that i can listen back to. I will be on the phone to tech support at Ezcctv today anyway as they are so helpful, but if anyone has any ideas in here, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hi Guys, Ok, i have my practice Geovision system setup now as you may have seen from my posts. After spending a day setting up and playing around i decided to read the manuals. Now i am not too sure that i have the correct software running or effectively anyway. On the actual DVR machine i have the 1480 and GV net card installed and i just went ahead and installed the Main System 8.2 software. Played around with that machine and a few cameras and mics, not a problem. It does everything i want. Bear in mind this machine will never be touched by ops. On the front end workstations i installed the Geovision CMS. Using Control Center i have been able to live view the cams and mics. Granted i have had to switch between Remote DVR and VMD a few times to actually perform the tasks i wanted which after reading the manual seems a little odd. Now seeing that VMD is Video Motion Detection and i wont be needing that. I take it i still need to use the VMD group even though i won't be doing anything with Video Motion Detection. Where does CenterV2 come into this picture, or do i just not need it? I'm very computer and network literate but this Geovision software just seems to come under so many different names and guises that its getting a little confusing.
-
Excellent. Thanks. So i will run Centre V2 from the remote workstations and that will give me full PTZ, full audio and full cameras, all 4 servers? I will play with it tonight and see how it gets on. I might just plump for a bit of training.
-
Thanks for the replies guys. I don't really care about motion detection. All i want to do is allow guards to monitor all 64 channels from their workstations. They also need to be able to listen to any of the audio channels. They also need to be able to control the PTZ. From the actual DVR PCs, i can use the 1480 main software to do all of this. not a problem. The guards will have a workstation each, 5 in total. These in turn are networked to the 4 DVR machines (1 x 1480 in each). Apparently, in order for them to be able to view all 64 they need CMS installed on their workstations. So far i have used Remote DVR to view the cameras but cannot listen to the audio channels or control the PTZ. If i create a VMD group, i can view the matrix, and control the PTZ, i cannot listen to audio. I can use RemoteView to listen to any audio channel recorded. I did presume that i would be able to use something like V2 on each workstation and the guards have the same control as they would sat at the DVR PCs. Select any Waveout (audio), view any camera and control any PTZ. Incidentally. Can i create user groups to enable security and disable certain users from viewing certain cameras? Thanks guys.

Apologies for all the premature questions. After playing about a bit more this morning it turns out that it is all about the VMD groups. I was going ni through Remote DVR which has a lot of the functionality locked down. When i greated a VMD group, i had access to teh PTZ, the audio channels, the lot. Can't wait to buy the next 4 cards to i can create a group with all 5 cards. I am sure i will have more questions soon though.. Thanks

Well, i got it. Thanks Ezcctv. My first 1480 card and GVNet. All working a treat. So easy to setup. Even that bloody LJD PTZ. I have managed to sort out watching a video channel and listening to a completely different audio channel not a problem. 1 very happy client. What i can't see to do is playback the audio. I can playback video not a problem through video log. All the events appear in the log, but the channel that has the audio on does not have any events. There is not camera on that video channel as i wanted proof that it would record audio without video present. Am i just expecting too much or is this possible? Thanks
-
Ok, so i got round the old PTZ issue. Rather than going through Remote DVR, setup a VMD group with the cameras in it. Forget i ever mentioned that one...... Apologies.
-
Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. In view log, i have selected the channel which the audio is on. Bear in mind, no camera on this channel, and i cannot see anyway to select the audio channel. I can flick through all my video channels fine but can see no way to enable the audio on other channels. Also, running Control Center on a network PC, i can connect via RemoteDVR and see all the cameras fine but cannot control with PTZ controls. When i go into the system configuration, the PTZ box is ticked but greyed out. All very new to this and i am sure i will get round it.

Sorry for posting so often. Does anyone have any screen shots of Geovision Control Center or could generate some from their system? I need to put together an offer of a system to a client but wont have my kit in time.
-
Excellent thanks. It actually gives me an idea what i'm working with now too. Never used geovision before and its a big system i have to build first time. Just built a practice PC for my demo system. Running sweet. Just waiting on the GV-1480, GV-Net and Control Center to turn up tommorow. I take it that the GV-Net can control upto 4 PTZs?
-
Yeah, my Geovision system.

As i am building 4 PC for the 64 Channel system i need, i find that all the different Hard Drive Space Calculatros throw out completely different figures. Top end, i was speccing in 8 Tb of space in a RAID6 configuration. (7+1) Can anyone give their experiences/recommendations for the space i would need for the following GV-1480 Card 16 Channels Video (8 B&W, 8 Colour) and 16 Channels Audio 20FPS Recording 24/7 - 31 Days Best Res possible with the GV-1480 Thanks guys
-
Is that all 16 cameras operational and all colour? I don' think that the movement will be massive. There will be approx 4 PTZs on there actually. (forgot about them). Will a number of them being B&W help? Glad it was you guys answering actually as i am buying my systems from you probably.

As per my previous posts i am having to builda system that will take 64 x Video Inputs and 64 x xAudio Inputs. I have been pointed towards the Geo range of products and would like any tips you guys can give. I was thinking of building 4 rack mount PCs. Intel boards, Quad Core/HyperThread CPU's, 4Gb RAM, 8Tb Harddrive each with 16 channels. Do Geo do a card that can take 16 Video and 16 Audio? Pretty sure i've seen them and if so which is the best? If the card will take 16 audio and 16 video, are the audio and video channels linked. i.e Video 1 and Audio1 are linked, Video 2 and Audio 2 are linked etc etc, meaning that if i want to hear Audio 1 i have to put up Video 1. I would like to have them independant. Now, the operators will be using seperate workstations to access all 64 channels. Using the CMS software (is this correct?) will they see each individual server and have to select it or will they just see all 64 channels seamlessly. If they use the E-Map will they have to have 1 for each server or can it group them overall. A lot of questions to ask, i know, sorry. I have a lot more but will go a bit at a time. Forking out the cash for the boards before i know what they can offer is a big issue. Getting the right GUI is important for the client. Thanks guys, i'm sure you will be helpful as usual
-
Funny you should mention this. I have just spotted it whilst looking up 8.2 What may be best then is to have the 8TB RAID for each server. 16 Channels just record to that 8Tb. What i do like is that you can specify how long you keep the data for. Whilst the operators are monitoring the cameras from one of their workstations, can they playback anything from the 30 days over the 4 servers and archive it, i.e burn off to DVD or other network location?
-
Well that sounds like exactly what i need. Thanks Now just the storage solution to work out. Each 16 channel machine having 8Tb drives and storaging individually or all machines pointing back to a network storage server. Thanks for your help though Andy.
