chanyickwai replied to ClosedCircuitCom's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Closedcircuitcom, 12V re-chargeable battery pack is popular and cheap. We've used it continuously for pre-installation site testing as cable and power not laid, or troubleshooting. If you're interested, you can PM me, let me find some info for you. Regards, Dove -
Port Forwarding and Remote Access help
chanyickwai replied to texasdyme's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Are you configuring a DVR? what's your IP address and port required for this DVR? Then you should put in corresponding info to netopia router for port forwarding. This is my understanding. Regards, Dove -
Why didn't you? 1) collect all the baluns back (it should be easy to detach), using a short cat5e cable, one monitor, one camera, test them on table and confirm no major defects first 2) using a UTP tester (this one also cheap), check the UTP cable with all 8 wire good signal. Hope this will help you find more information. Regards, Dove

RF Modulator should be a normal way to run cctv inside CATV, if you want to use your TV set and able to watch TV programs but just set cctv as one of the channel. For your case, 1) are you sure how the cable runs inside your house? they should be inside the wall, right? 2) the connectors are not problem, there are too many kinds of converters in the market. If you want, PM/email me with photos, I can find out if there is suitable one. Regards, Dove

Lolo Wolf's explanation is great. I think you should use the traveler cable inside the lift. I am wondering if you need to seek help from lift contractor (though this is expensive). Or else, I just curious if you're skill enough to lay this cable inside the lift, unlike static things, this lift moving up and down all the time and need special consideration and skills. That's why even in our place, this cable normally goes back to the lift contractor, other just too risky to do this. Morever, controlling and opening the lift for installation must rely on lift contractor, we CCTV installers most likely unable to do that. Regards, Dove

protecting DVR from theft
chanyickwai replied to dubwiser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
From my experience, DVR does not generate heat unless in a totally closed space. Therefore, if there is, put in above false ceiling may be an option. Regards, Dove -

So there is a kind of small device called surge protector in the market. This is the correct solution for protecting equipment outdoor in a lightning frequent areas. If you want, PM me and I'll try to find some detailed info for your reference. Not sure if I am correct, let's share. Regards, Dove -
Cat 5 for video and power?
chanyickwai replied to dubwiser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
dubwiser, certainly. A pair of UTP balun can just satisfy your need. 12v and 50ft should have no problem. If you don't want power, one cat5 can run 4 cameras. If you want, pls PM me, I can try to show you some detailed info. Regards, Dove -
May I share your experience? I use POE years ago for just IP Camera, there were several, but hang quite frequently, is a matter of stability of electricity? Since then, prefer not to use it. Or you have any suggestion of good models?
