I have purchased a used dvr when it's plugged in it will only allow me to view 2 channels any one had this issue

Is there any one that may be able to talk me through setyin up remote viewing on my phone have it all set so I can view over Wi-Fi but can't figure out or to do it without needing to be on the same network thanks
