Other DVRs to compare with Intellicam 4XLA

Since I saw your posting a few days ago I have attempted to set my XLA up so that it would send the motion file immediately without success. I even tried to drop the file size down to " 0 " and also without any number in the file size box. Extremely nice feature but I can understand your concern. I however have a PC on site that I use as the FTP Server using FileZilla. If you are concerned about losing your Internet connection, you may want to consider using a PC on site to retrieve the files. This way if you lose your Internet at least it was still transferred to the PC. With a few of my customers, I did this exact same thing but have had the luxury of having the PC in another part of the building, hidden and behind locked doors where no one would expect a PC to be. This PC was dedicated to only this effort and only myself and the customer knew it was in place. We even went as far as to equip the install with UPS's as the customer was concerned about the power being turned off prior to the break in.

    Hikvision IP cameras

Thanks for the kind words. I believe it really is the only way to do business. Let's face it; cameras and DVR's can be bought from many companies all day long. I have learned from my mistakes in the past and want to share those mistakes with others. I really try to point people in the right direction. If I truly believe if it will not meet the needs, I WILL NOT recommend it even if it means a "lost" sale. I always mention that regardless of whom you buy from, I hope the info I provided will assist you in making an informed decision. Also, if by chance I do error, I will make it right. I sleep very well at night. Mike
  4. The antennas that will be transmitting the signal are omni directional in that they transmit 360 degrees. Most of the energy will propagate out and very little will propagate down towards the base of the tower. In other words, I really do not see a problem. Regardless, the RF energy will not create a problem. As far as the cables being in close proximity I would use coax and not cat 5. Also, depending upon who owns the tower, you may need permission to mount these cams. A good practice is to NOT fasten your cable to any other cable run down the tower. It is considered being a good tower neighbor. The radio cables are shielded as well so the chance of interference is a non-issue. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project Mike

How to view video from Hikvision 7204 on a cellphone

Although I have never connected via a Cell Phone, it is my understanding that you may have to connect via the sub stream of the DVR. Again, I have never attempted this. I would assume, depending upon the frame rate the DVR is set to, it may be too much for the cell network to handle. I hope this helps ????? Mike

    delete cctv footage

That shows you how much I know about PC based systems. I think I have touched 5 of them in my life time Thanks for the clarification

    delete cctv footage

The real question here is the DVR a PC based System or Stand Alone?? If it is a Stand Alone and you can get into the menu, there should be a hard drive management "tab" or HDD tab. Under that you should be able to format the hard drive. Now if it is a PC Based System then you DO NOT want to do that as you will delete the operating system of course. Do you have admin access to the system?? If not then you are out of luck. The only option would be to replace the drive and dispose of the naughty drive. Those darn CCTV cameras!!!!!!

Help with DVR decision, which to buy...

I thought so. It is a decent DVR. The only issue is that it will only record in CIF - if that really is an issue??

Help with DVR decision, which to buy...

Spec's are only one way to determine which DVR to buy. Real world experiences really tell the story. Firmware issues, networking capabilities to name a few. I would be surprised if anyone will actually give you a straight answer on this. Just not enough info. If I had to go by spec's and being an H.264 guy and will bet that DVR#1 is a Hikvision LTA8, I would go with that one. I have had very good luck with that line. Is it this one???? The one in your store may have a black front.

    Jpeg 2000 Stand alone DVR

Hi, Could it be as simple as the ribbon cable between the board and the drive being defective?? Or even the power cable between the drive and the board?? I only ask as you have tried another HD to no avail.

Help with DVR decision, which to buy...

Hi and welcome to the forum... I am going to go out on a limb here and at the risk of embarrassment and say that DVR #1 is a Hikvision or AKA a G4 LTA 8??? DVR #2 Avermedia??? Was I right???? I think it would be better to tell us the models so we can provide real world experiences. Thanks

Running a CCTV camera off of a 12V battery - Not working!?

Hi and welcome to the forum... The only thing I can figure is that the battery will show 12VDC but under a load drops below the camera threshold. When the cam is connected to the battery, what is the voltage reading. Is it an older battery?? I have done this in the past but have connected several batteries together in order to get the components to work under load. Hope this helps Mike

I need weather proof cameras, please advise

I personally do not have experience with this camera but as I mentioned before, insure that the camera is tight. Looks as though under the "R" in Lorex in your picture is where the 2 half’s are screwed together. You may want to open it up, allow it to air dry and try again. Is the rain pouring over this camera off the roof or is it just exposed to normal rainfall. Again, with an IP rating of 66 it should not do this. How does the wire enter the housing?? From the back or underneath?? May want to insure that seal is OK also. Bottom line... They should not leak! Is it remotely possible that water is migrating in from the camera connectors?? Are they weatherproofed and below the camera?

    Lens Question

Hey Soundy, Mythbusters did beat the camera but had to exceed some off the chart speed. I forget what but I think better than 100mph. That was a good episode. They even did a re-visit on the myth and as you mentioned " Myth Busted " I agree, very tough to capture plates at distance. I just turned down a job because of the same scenario. He wanted to capture plates at 100'+ using a box cam and 50mm lens. I told him I would NOT guarantee 100% capture. He proceeded to mention that the other bidder would. I again thanked him for the opportunity and wished him well. Just not worth the aggravation. Mike
  19. I will never install a wireless camera, period. I wish I had a dollar for every customer who has asked me to install one. When they insist, I politely thank them for the opportunity and advise them to seek someone else who will spend hours trying to get that perfect picture and only to have to return when a baby monitor is installed next door. Our policy is simple, if the signal is not in a wire, we cannot control it. As mentioned above, your path will not be protected until you have a licensed path and even then when you have someone jump into your spectrum, you will spend time trying to determine who it is and then time trying to shut him or her down. It's just not worth it. Others may have good luck with them but we have not.

I need weather proof cameras, please advise

Hi and welcome to the forum... I have had high-end cameras suck water as well and I got smart and before I install any camera, I always make sure all the screws are tight. You would be surprised how many are not. This cam may not have any external screws so you may want to insure the lens cover is screwed on tight. Are these the cams?? http://lorexstore.lorextechnology.com/product.aspx?id=2060 They state an IP rating of 66 which is pretty good. Explained here... http://ezinearticles.com/?The-IP-Rating-System-Explained&id=126536 You should expect them NOT to leak as long as they are not exposed to an environment in excess of the rating given. The next level of 67 allows for "Protected against temporary immersion in water" I wonder who polices the IP Rating system because by what you have said, these cams should have a rating of 60 Thanks Mike

Replace Pelco 7000 and 7100 DVR's. Need advice.

I know this is a really old thread but thought I would answer this question... The are made by Hikvision and a solid platform

G4-LTA4 Hikvision vs LTA-RT4 a few questions also

Hi, I believe we spoke on the phone today but in the interest of others on the forum, I will answer your questions... First, They are not the same DVR. Each do have an embedded web viewer whereas by using a computer with Internet Explorer and active X enabled and by typing in your dyndns address, you will be able to remotely connect. Of course, the router will also need to be configured for port forwarding as well. Thanks Mike

    DVR remote station won't PTZ

Are you still having problems?? What kind of DVR? Can you control the PTZ via the local network?? In other words, from a PC connected to the same router, can you control the PTZ that way using the web based viewer or client software??
