If you had a PTZ camera on your system you would use this to set preset PTZ locations. Once your presets were established, you would simply select a preset number and the PTZ camera would swing to that predetermined angle of view.

Hello and welcome to the forum There are many DVR's on the market as I'm sure you have noticed. We carry Intellicam's Line of JS Series DVR. Right within your budget for an 8 channel. I would recommend the JSRTA. This line of DVR will allow the recording resolutions of D1, 15fps all channels or 2CIF and CIF 30fps with independent channel configuration. The only issue I see is it records in .mp4 format, as do most decent DVR's. You can however convert to a "usable" format for the police. A video converter comes with the DVR. What we do is download the video from the DVR and burn that video and the mp4 player to the same DVD. In doing so, one would simply insert the DVD into a PC, open the player and then select the file to play. I would strongly recommend a DVR that records in H.264. If at all possible, stay away from MPEG or the like especially in the environment you wish to install this system. As I mentioned above, there are many DVR's on the market. Try to stick with H.264, and a DVR that will allow you to record in D1 which is the highest resolution. The JS Series DVR will do this and more. Hi and welcome to the forum... Very interesting??? Have you tried resetting the DVR back to it's default settings?? Also, in the time, does that say 28:23:09?? Image is very pixelated. If so, that would suggest to me that maybe the 2 issues have something in common and is a bigger issue. Do you access to the firmware. Most DVR suppliers/distributors should have it. Maybe, just maybe by flashing the DVR with the firmware may solve the problem but I'm just not too sure though. Just looked at the image again. The time displayed is just the way you have the date and time formated. There has got to be a way to access the display settings to change all that and also you may find the settings to fix your problem. What kind of DVR is it?? Thanks Mike

Welcome to the forum... By having the REG-X directly against the glass will still create reflections as the IR and lens are behind the glass. You could remove the glass from the enclosure. Also, depending upon the color of your enclosure, insure the sunshield is black underneath and any surrounding enclosure close to the camera. Any other color will also create IR backwash by reflecting off the light colored surface. Hate to see you go crazy and find out it does not work especially using a REG-X cam. IR is very critical in providing usable LP images. Oh and on another note... if by chance you are powering the REG-X with 12VDC, you may want to go to 24VAC as the camera will perform much better at that voltage. I believe they are all dual voltage but check to be sure before going to 24VAC. At least the ones I am familiar with are dual voltage. Hope this helps. Mike

In Googling .dvr File Player I came across this link http://www.pyrogen.com/DvrActiveXSetup.exe I downloaded the file and installed it on my XP PC. When I open the program and select "open", it is looking for .dvr files so I would assume it should work for you. With reference to the Police being able to view the files, our DVR's record in mp4 and will not play in your normal windows media player. What I do is copy the video files in question on to a DVD and also copy the player program as well on the same DVD. In doing so, no matter who has the DVD, it can be played. Also, our systems offer a video converter as well that will convert to either .avi or .wmv Hope this helps Mike

I wonder????? Do all 5 cameras fade at the same time??? Are the 5 cameras located within close proximity of each other? The reason I ask is fluorescent lighting can be an issue ( maybe ). Take a deep breath and stand back. What is the common denominator with these cameras?? I can't beleive you have 5 bad cameras although possible Can you provide us with a sample video?? Are these 5 cameras being powered by the same side of the power supply. Most of the 12VDC 18 camera supplies we use have 2 boards in them ( 9 cams per board ). This may suggest an issue with the supply. Again, try to determine what is common with these 5 cameras. Go even further and doubt the DVR. Very very unlikely but possible. Are these 5 cameras connected to the DVR in sequence with each other? Think outside the box so to speak and entertain anything. Since you said it happened 2 months after installation, what changed on the property, if anything?? Just trying to provide additional thoughts so when you do visit the property, you have a few more things to look at. If I had to make a prediction, I beleive you will find that the flourescent lighting is causing the problem. I had one customer who had a similar issue. When I reviewed the video, I noticed the flourescent lighting was flickering but to the human eye it was not noticable. As stated prior, see if the camera does have a flicker control. Most low end cams do not though. Let us know how you make out. Good Luck Mike

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!! I need some advice from the experts. All of my applications have utilized a wired Interent connection for my customers to access their systems remotely. I have a customer who DOES NOT have access to either DSL or broadband. This customer has just acquired this property and the system they did have was a PC based system with geovision, The PC no longer works but they said the original owner used a Verizon Aircard. My experience with an aircard is that it will not hold the connection and will time out from non use. Has anyone had any luck with this type of remote access and if not, can you point me in the right direction? I don't have an issue with using a PC based system if this will work. Has anyone used a Satellite connection? My understanding with satellite is you need a phone connection to interact with the PC?? Remember, no phone service is available. Very remote, I'm talking almost off the grid remote. Oh, and I need to add... They have several PTZ cameras so interaction is critical. I know You want remote access AND control the PTZ's??????? As per our HD calculator, I have attached 3 images, CIF, 2CIF and D1. Of course rough estimate and many variables will influence this but hope this makes your head feel better. Hope it helps Mike

Thanks for the reply and information. Once again, will this "connection" time out?? As I mentioned, the Verizon Aircard I had before would time out. I will use the tools as recommended. Hi and Welcome to the Forum... I usually mount my DVR's on walls in a vertical fashion. I simply drill a few holes in the bottom of the DVR and screw it to what ever I am mounting it to. This way, no shelving is required and it is a much cleaner installation. My concern regarding your situation is two fold. First, not knowing where you are located, temperature and ventilation concerns me. In the summer and depending upon your southern exposure, it will cook. Even without direct sunlight, it will generate its' own heat as well. On the flip side, they do need to operate above 32F. I would assume power is not an issue? Certainly, the boxes you are considering using are tough enough to withstand vandalism. In my area and living a stones throw from the Atlantic Ocean, my other concern would be one of moisture regardless of how tight the seal was but that again falls into the DVR's ability to breath. If you go ahead and install in this environment, it will work but you will most certainly shorten the life of the DVR. Humidity will need to be considered as well. I know that's what you did not want to hear but as you mention, you have no other alternative. I guess the bottom line is your climate and what you figure the average temperature will be in the enclosure. Our DVR's are rated from 32 to 131 degrees. But I would have to say; running anything at either extreme will not be good. Others may be able to shed a different light on this subject and have a solution for you. Hope this helped?? Thanks Mike

Thanks for the reply... I was starting to wonder The PC on site does have a PCI slot. At one time I also had an aircard for my laptop but it would time out after none use thus my concern. So you are saying this will not time out?? Or with this configuration only, it will keep the connection alive?? And you are right, the FPS will suffer but that's OK as long as they can see something. I have already warned them of that. Maybe it's a Verizon thing as far as timing out. That's the service I had. No experience with AT&T's aircard stuff. Again, thanks for the reply. I'm sure you are right but we have found that most crooks are identified by the physical signature each has. They way we walk, carry ourselves, mannerisms etc, all contribute to the identification. Facial recognition is important of course but other factors contribute as well. Very difficult to mask that.

I am happy to report it got every second right up to the time I unplugged it. Had the DVR unplugged for 40 minutes. Sure wish your DVR did the same. Would have been very interesting video. Thanks

I will do that but I'm not sure what the difference would be. I'd like to think if it recorded the motion event, it will record continous up until the time it's unplugged?????? I am going to do it now and I will post back. Employee theft, Hmmmm, imagine that?? I have never heard of such a thing Thanks

Very well stated!!!! As soon as I hit the submit button, it hit me. That's rain or snow. I suspect snow blowing by the camera as it does appear in the first picture that there is snow on the ground.

Follow up... Almost looks like rain or snow. The IR's will really enhance this. Especially the interference is all in one shape. I have attached an image. Could it be that simple?????

WOW! I have to admit I have never seen that type of interference. That's extreme. OK, now that we have determined that this interference is common with all cams that have seperate power sources, we can move on. Typically when I encounter a camera that lacks the amps to power the IR's, the camera's IR's will not come on at all. Hmmmmmm What is the power requirements of the cams and do the supplies meet that requirement?? I don't know, very strange. Not all that convinced yet about a power issue. Trial and error here. Several things I would do next. In an effort to eliminate a cable issue, bring a cam inside and connect to your DVR. Simulate a night condition and see if you get the interference. If you do, then take it one step further and eliminate the DVR and connect the cam directly to a TV if you can. By doing so, you are eliminating the possible causes. Just insure before you go through all this that the power supplies are capable of handling the current draw. Oh and one more thing, are they regulated power supplies?? Very important!! Thanks Mike

Hi, I assume by what you said in your post that all cameras are having this issue?? If so, I suspect a power issue. If they are all powered from the same source, I would review the video and see if they all have this interference at the same time. If this is the case, try powering a single camera separate from the rest of the system and see if the problem clears. If it does, it's the power supply. We may need additional info to help you. What type of cable, cat 5 or coax? Also, one other question... Are these wireless cameras?? Thought I would ask because if they are, it becomes a little more difficult to pin point. Hope this helps. Hello, How unfortunate!!!! I know what I am about to say will not help you but this post got me thinking about our DVR's. How would it react to a similar situation?? So I tried it. I set the DVR to record in motion detect. As soon as motion was detected, I noted the time to the second and what occurred. I quickly unplugged the DVR ( 5 sec ) and then plugged it back in. I was pleasantly surprised to find the DVR had immediately written the event to the drive and did not loose the video. I thought there may be a slight gap from event to write but none what so ever. I went a step further... Original test was at CIF 30fps. The second test was done at D1 7.5fps with the same result. On the flip side of that, I also have the DVR set up to automatically upload any motion detected event to my FTP server. It did not have enough time to upload. The DVR on average will upload an event within 10 seconds though and of course depending upon the size of the file and Internet speed, it may take a little bit to completely upload. I have to say, I was not surprised. Almost sounds like an inside job. Were you able to get into the log?? And if so, what did you find?? We hope you find out who did this. And thanks for the post. Made me think how capable our line of DVR really is! Mike
