Trying to set up dispatch in fail-over mode, but don't understand how this could work since it uses fixed ip-adresses. The moment the main dispatch fails (I mean: system crash, application hang, loss of power or network). How will a center find the fail-over dispatch: Center connect's to an IP ....or via DNS to an IP ..... Would like to know how this is designed. Maybe I should setup a hardware based fail-over with two indentical machines. Need advice from someone at Geovision to set this up, because it's not documented. Thanks,

Splitting RS-232 to control two different PTZ protocols
secureconcepts replied to anchorjoe's topic in Geovision
you can connect multiple dome's to one I/O board (using ONE serial port). Only thing is that the PTZ should be using the same baudrate ! (that determines the speed, RS485 is basically a bus that you put messages on). Downside: Geovision in it's wisdom decided that as of version 8.2 you can not change the baudrate anymore per PTZ ! (older version's it was possible). So now you have to to buy the USB adapters for each different dome and you can not atke advantage of better baudrates anymore. Still don't understand why they changed it. It make sinstallation only more complex with more points to fail. I had a Pelco and a Sensormatic on one I/O board but was forced to buy a USB adapter (worked super, both on 4800). -
tracking and zooming again. I am probably the only one using this feature .... When in zomm mode, it zoom's in on the object and stays zoomed in it does not direct the dome back to the initial screen after the set time.
-
one other issue showed up (tracking / zooming): - the system zoom's in on objects that are detected outside the detection region. If the object is outside the detection region and it touches the detection region just a bit (1% is enough) than it zoom's in on it. The object should be fully in the detection region before zooming in.

Couple of issues: - when in test mode and you have idle-protection set. he moment idle protection start the monitoring the system crashes (full restart). Not a big thing since you are in test mode, but don't believe it's designed to crash ! - The fine tune buttons are available for 1 second (test mode) making it virtually impossible to fine-tune the pan/tilt. - When the system restarts and you have tracking/zooming enabled it will NOT go back to these settings. You have to enable the dome again for tracking. Go to setup and enable zoom (default is tracking) and then start the feature. Any idea how this could be done ? (normally it never restarts but if it does you lose these settings).

VSM is very usefull. But they can still delete files ....! (VSM will detect it, but files are gone ....). I am trying to figure out what a user can do without fysical access to the system, I know they can get into save mode, witch is risky (have not tested all the options yet!). With fysical access it's very simple (and a not recommended setup).
-
Agreed average users probably not, but simple things as a power failure with auto-boot setup will allow user to get into save-mode. Even with a UPS it will restart after a while and Geovison does not detect it's on UPS power. In high level security environments this could be an issue because it does not detect unauthorized changes on file-level.
-
ok, rory was faster then I was ... and still other options possible, but you do need access to the system. If you can get it to restart without access then start windows in save mode ....

you have to send me a PM first, not alowed to send pm on the forum.

yes I mean the Geovison Keylock. The amount of time I want to keep the files is not that important (depends on the disk size). But lets say it's a week and some event took place in that week and someone did delete the files. You would not see anything and also would not know it took place (files are gone !). Even if you know something happenend you have to search all the files around that period and the backup to find evidence. You could easily conclude it was not on camera and not even check the backup. Even if they are backuped instantly there is no mechanisme to tell you that files have been deleted in an incorrect manner.
-
You can lock the DVR with desktop but not that difficult to break. So someone could delete recorded files. With backup server you can instantly backup, but it recycle's. So you will lose the files that are deleted after a while (even with a large disk). Would be nice to have an option to never recycle deleted files on the backup server and have an alert mechanisme in place if files are deleted. Protecting the recorded files is key but not really well implemented at the moment. Any idea's ......

looks like everything is fine after a complete reinstall. MSview and Gview connect, webcam can be started and stopped. How: - make sure you uninstall any old version and drivers. - delete all storage and database dir's (you can leave the cam data). - search you system for left geovision files - restart - install 8.2 - apply webcam-patch Apperently the uinistall leaves things that lock up functions in 8.2 (I went ..from 8.12 to the 8.2 beta and then 8.2 final)
-
yes I did reboot, problems still exist
-
I have posted my problems with 8.2 on 2 different forums and issued a support request and nothing yet ..... still a not usable version for my customers (I will not install or recommend at this moment). Due to: webcam and mobile (msview) problems. p.s. I guess they are working on it but feedback would be appreciated !
-
i have one patch that copies a couple of missing bitmap files (cam-logo, etc ...). that one does not solve my problems with msview v2 and v3 (did not test Gview)
-
some additional info: - having this problem for a couple of weeks - applied the latest updates on vista Only way to get webcam running again is a system (vista) restart, restarting multicam does not work ! Immidiatly after the restart you can stop and start webcam. But locks up again after some time. Looks like something is still running or loaded on the machine after stopping multicam.
-
On Vista (don't know for xp). 1. Webcam hangs after a while, you can not start/stop webcam anymore. 2. Mobile connections via browser: not the right images (you have to refresh several times) 2. Mobile connections disconnect right away (tested msview v2 and v3) 4. If webcam is running and does have no connceting clients if will get inaccesible after a couple of hours (as long as it has a client connected it's ok) The BETA v2 did not have these problems. It is the same system (1480) and I did a complete ununstall of the BETA.

Can't get a decent pictute at night from this dome ! Day time: super, everything works. Outdoor setup connected to a geovision systeem. Other camera's with less lux rating (including an Ultra V) get better images from the same scene. Zoomed in on a street lamp (36 w PL light), below the lamp with a gate in front of it). The cam can not focus and does not get a decent picture. Looking at the specs I should get a super picture. According to Tyco the dome is ok (they tested it). I have the feeling that or I am doing something completely wrong or it's defective. Any suggestions ?
