GeoVision / Avermedia: Are these the best consumer DVR Cards
Integratek replied to mpr86's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It's an overkill machine. u should use a 32 channel dvr card with h.264 hardware compression, so the card is doing a hard job leaving to pc just to record. Single core Pentium 4 is more than enough, 1 gig of ram etc. there's no good reason to use any prebuilt server for dvr - buy a case with quality 500+ watt power supply, intel MB, p4 cpu, 4x 500gb harddrives - install RAID-5 - what you need is fault tolerance and hard drive speed, 1 gig of ddr2 and get some professional just to assemble it and install OS - windows xp or 2000 - should still be cheaper than a Dell "server". basically there's no such thing as a "workstation" or a "server" or a "gaming machine" hardware wise. meaning that it is depends of software you are using. get a prebuilt dell workstation and put it on-line as ftp server or buy an ibm server and use it just to play games. server hardware should theoretically be more reliable and more productive than workstation, however today's workstations are as fast and reliable as servers bought 2-3 years ago, and 3-4 times cheaper. -
dvr software in vb6
Integratek replied to ofekp's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
to play video from a dvr card you have ti access it's API - not the video card. api doc's are normally provided by card's and/or video capture chipset manufacturer. anyway it's not a task for a junior vb coder. -
Hi How difficult (or easy) find a good job in CCTV field in NYC ? I've got 2 years experience as CCTV installer and 7 years as PC tech, able to work all on my own What salary should i expect ? Do i require any special licenses to open my own business in CCTV field ? Is it easier to work as PC tech ? What's hourly rates for fixing computers on-site ?

In a last year i've installed about 15-20 misc. Edimax devices - 8/16/24/32 port switches, routers and wireless routers. more than half of those devices had to be replaced within first 6 months. Switches just stopped to work and had to be rebooted, routers all of the sunned stopped routing, different ports just stopped working and than started again without any understandable reason...

IMNSHO Edimax suck. I've never seen less reliable equipment. Cisco and Intel are the best. Gigabyte, D-Link and Linksys are OK

subj. Probably i'm gonna use GV, so i'll have to put 3x16 channel card plus 1 4 channel into each machine. Is it possible ? If so, how strong the computers should be ? Is it not better to use 5 computers, 30 chan each ? Is it possible to acheive 3 computers soluiton with card other than GV ? -

webcam ? I've got one proggie here, which saying that there's no capture device found (there's kodicom card running on that machine) So i thought that it should be possible theoretically to translate a signal from 878 to some other form, recognised by IM and other programs as a webcam. -

The proggi i've mentioned is supplied by Pelefone (israel's first & largest cellular communications provider) It allows to broadcast videostream from a web camera over 3G network, so i thought that broadcasting CCTV over 3G would be nice -

Oranges are ways better than apples

i know not and care not about factory testings prefer to find best software/hardware/drivers combinations by myself and stick with it all i know i is that i have not installed even one system with ati card, and only couple with intel chipset to be frank i do not trust what software/hardware makers write in manuals -
Can you recommend a system for me?
Integratek replied to PoorOwner's topic in General Digital Discussion
for this price you can get either standalone or pc-based dvr i'm not a big expert on standalones, as for pc-based you can get very nice feature-rich solution for a much lower price if your old pc is any better than pIII 633 256 ram you can use virtually any dvr card on it and get OK results there's quite a lot of dvr cards on the market i have had expirience with kodicom, geovision, avermedia, pico and magic radar any of those mentioned would surely satisfy all your need -

ATI is not nessesary at all with 4.11 (i have no systems with other versions) i've got system with g-force 2 mx 400 32 mb - no probs at all with all system i've installed in a last couple of month i've used abit SG-72 mb with sis661 chipset. Site software is not working at all under WinXP, but with Win2k i've encountered no problems at all imho remote desktop is pretty useless, for security, stability and conviniece reasons i use either Remote Admin or VNC vnc is better - it transmits overlay video, so you could tweak any settings and see results in real time 70 gigs for 3 cams @ 30 fps each should be sufficient for at least a 4-6 days -
Is there any PC DVR card which have *nix (unix/linux) drivers and software ? imho m$ windows is sliiiightly overpriced ....

Diginet Question

i though that these options have nothing to do imho it's never a good idea to upgrade a software - always better to install new copy as for geforce - try to use different driver versions -
Diginet Question
Integratek replied to ikill4food2's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
on all my systems it's set on zeros they are working fine so i assume that's the way it should be (never bothered to read a manual) the only options that somehow might be related to your problem is either this or System Off Time so just try and check if nothing helps try to uninstall Site software and apache, delete the C:\Diginet folder and reinstall again -
