Splitting signal for reception to view
Integratek replied to G22's topic in General Digital Discussion
Try to use T-connectors and see results if picture quality became worse than acceptable - use signal amps. -

it seems like 80 port blocked by sp2 firewall or router or ISP @ server's side u can try to connect to server from itself via loopback - 127.0.0.1 if connection fails the problem is in server, if connection is ok connect from server to server using it's external IP P.S. i've got no slightest idea what SBC might be
-
2 toughman - describe the problem in more details what DVR software ? what hardware ? OS'es on both ends ? routers ? other devices ? what error do u get in explorer ? have you properly configured firewall ? have you configured the webserver ?or does it happends automatically during installation ?
-
it all depends on distance between DVR station and remote backup server if it's in easy reach distance - about 100 meters for ethernet or up to quite a few kilometers (world record stands for 77) using 802.11b or g with directional antennaes what use can have you of good, or bad, router ? are you transmitting video over internet ?

deleting files from hard drive
Integratek replied to jim's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
RAID 1 ???? well raid 1 is really 50% drive space waste with small read speed increase and same write speed IMO worst possible solution although ntfs is bit slower than fat32, on systems better than p3 1000 gHz 256 RAM running WinXP the difference in speed is really small i've never installed fat32 on NTFS capable system since 1995 and every single time it worked fine with NTFS even on nt4 with 32 mb SDRAM as for stability and speed increase having drive partitioned - you don't really want to completely run out of free space wich can happend easily for stored video files tend to take all free space and DVR software in not 100% error-free and in some cases might have memory leaks resulting in increased swap file size reboot system once a day is of cource solves the problem but still does not provides solution for video files taking whole space anyway as i've told b4, there's few recommendations by OS makes, including microsoft, berkley, linus torvalds and whole bunch more. every single one of them says that hard drive should be partitioned for better stability and speed you might either follow their recommendations or make up ones of you own, yet who knows the OS better ? you or a person or a company who actually developed it ? -

sure partitioning won't protect from physical drive damage, but all other benefits of it definetly worth much more than $10 for 5-7 gigs wasted -
PC Based DVR Setup Suggestions...
Integratek replied to spudz72's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
hi generally saying, you should use software wich came with your DVR card if you have not received any, just write here model and make of your card since all dvr cards are based on the same chipset by conexant theoretically all programs should work with all cards, practically it is not always truth -
deleting files from hard drive
Integratek replied to jim's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
not really a waste although NTFS is quite robust now, M$ Windows itself is buggy enough and still in certain conditions corrupt data on the HDD It's highly recommended by all makers of all OS'es to make separate partitions for system and user data having 2 partitions allows you to do whatever you please with your OS not worrying about loosing any important files located on second partition defragmenting only 5-10 gigs of system files is much faster than 160 gigs of all other files not nesserarily requiring defragmentation at any hand, PRO's of partitioning overweight CON's of "waste" of few gigs on system partition, drivespace is dirt-cheap now, 1 gig cost only about $1.20 let alone viruses... or just global system failure, so the only way to bring the computer back to work is format c: ? i always put My Documents on d: drive and in My Documents i put windows installations files, drivers and all required software (dvr, burning, etc) so in case client somehow managed to screw up the system (or system somehow manages to screw itself) it only take couple hours to have it back on-line. even better than that, if client have agreed to spend few bucks on program like Norton Ghost or Drive Image, it only takes few minutes to restore damaged system. it is quite imposible to do without partitioning sure you can burn all backups on CD's, but CD's tend to get lost, scratched brocken and make unreadable at many other ways, the hard drive however is not. -

2 jim it's really bad idea to store recorded video on same partition as operating system u should split your hdd in two using program like Partition Magic make system partition about 5-7 gigs, it's enough for WinXP+DVR soft+all drivers+progs like winrar and nero burning rom+virtual memory 2VST_Man - what good can defrag do to video files ? -
simplest chain for pc-based DVR looks like following: 1 - DVR software, generally supplied with card. it provides user interface, recordind, reviewing etc. 2 - DVR Card - kodicom, geovision, i3view and so on. converts analog video signal to digital video stream. 3 - video cable. transmits analog video signal from camera to card. 4 - camera, it requires power supply, normally 12 volt DC.

Get a program called IntelliSync It allows you to configure conduits for both Palm and PocketPC it supports most third-party programs, like outlook, lotus notes and so on

the connectors are not actually s-video, but mini-DIN, like keyboard or mouse, with 6 pins. so i just gonna buy a keyboard cable and splice it rather than existing cable. hope interferences won't be too strong

i surely got these two converters, but what to do with power ?

Advice needed: single IP cam, outdoor, already have a server
Integratek replied to djmoose's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
In your case you really should use a regular camera and any video capture card it would cost about as much as an IP camera, but provide you with much better solution IP cam pros - none i can think of IP cam cons - bulky, uncosealable, poor video recording abilities, no timeline search IP cam imho should only be used in cases where recording is not required -
The very best DVR card

Preventing user from using computer for any other task than using DVR is not complicated at all. just disable task manager in registry put the account DVR run under in Users group and remove from Administrators protect Administrator account by password disallow Users group using IE put password on bios deny access to removable media, or even hide all drives disable regedit.exe make Windows log on automatically with limited credentials and thats about it i can assure you nobody exept a good hacker can do anything with this machine for me is really difficilt to consired how user frendly is any piece of software, so i just prefer to tutor mu clients on the application recently i've got a costumer who had an internet account with dynamic IP address. so i've installed no-ip client to be able to find the computer on the internet. the problem was that Diginet Center software does no support domain names, so each time the line was disconnected he had to run cmd.exe, ping the machine and copy resolved ip into Diginet Center setup dialog. i've showed him couple times how to do that, he've written it on sticky paper and now he's really proud of himself since he's able to Program The Computer. Besides that using remote desktop software allows you to make virtually any system-wide changes remotely. -
The very best DVR card
Integratek replied to Integratek's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I might be for not too long in the business, yet i found properly built and configured PC quite maintenance free. WinXP sp2 is really stable, even if is does stuck watchdog reboots computer Customer unable to play with machine coz i disable all system keys and run dvr soft as restricted user. At other hand it requers highly skilled person to setup. -

Using PC ATX power supplies to power up CCTV cameras?
Integratek replied to PKL-Lap's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
IMHO migh be not so bad idea AT supplies might even be better, since they can be always turned on -
i've used edimax routers for about 10-12 installations never had a dropped line or any other problem it has all the functions i'd ever need, supports all kinds of broadband connections and so on the price here is about $40

I have a customer who has 3 stores. he want to have a DVR station installed in each of them, connected via internet to central office. Also he want to be able to view what's going on in each store at the same time on three monitors located in central office. Is there any hardware/software which will allow to connect 3 monitors to a single computer or i'll have to put 3 computers, each connected to a single DVR station ? Stand-alone DVR stations HIGHLY overpriced here (Israel) so i'm looking into PC-based solution
-
really dunnow why he'd want this, but as long as he pays some $$$ i'll try my best to have another satisfied customer and, what's most important, not let any concurrent have him. however, if i won't find solution i'll have no other choise but to do as you've said. i just wonder if there's nothing on the market to output 3 views to 3 separate screens connected to same computer ... btw, do you happend to know how to make pc-based drv station turn itself on after power failure or being turned off by someone ? i have a kodicom 4400 installed there

Hi I do have some pc experience - worked as pc tech for 8 years The thing is that he wants to have 4 cams in each store, and to view them on 3 separate screens in central office. i guess he've seen to many movies
