8 or 16ch DVR with CDRW - backup to avi directly
Sentry360 replied to goalie's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Well... What system are you using in the first place? When it comes to things like bringing footage for court evidence, or just PD use, here is what you can do: create an installer with footage and codecs, so they would copy in the right place and/or install. Usually it is like one file missing... You can make it as a silent install -- this way they will not even notice it! -
OS Supported Windows 2000 / Windows XP CPU Pentium III 800 minimum RAM 256MB minimum HDD 80GB recommended VGA nVIDIA GeForce2 MX200 32MB DirectX 9.0 and above Thats from the Geo website. And I cant tell you why people like Dell... Probably cheap and too lazy too assemble a PC.

Making a CD from recorded event
Sentry360 replied to Robert Oaks's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You are right - there is an easier way. First you export the footage from the video log to lets say desktop, or any other location you like. I think you can even export it directly to a CDRW if you are running XP. And then you dont even need Nero XP has embadded burner application. When you open up your CD, you will see an option on the left -- burn the CD. (through my computer) And thats it. Dont bother people with Nero -- its too complex for newbies. -
The very best DVR card
Sentry360 replied to Integratek's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I hear you It is pretty easy. But when it comes to serious project (and I would categorize surveillance as serious business), you need a lot more features than VB can offer. But hey.... if it works for you I use it sometimes. I actually use VBA. Its even worse... But it regularly updates my price lists, analizes info, drawing graphs and etc. But its sooo simple -

VB........ I hoped to never hear this word again..... I used to.... My GOD.... no..... dont want to remember..... :blocking the memory: go VC++! -
I'll tell you one thing about HDD crashes - try to avoid them. Using HDDs under 120G is another thing to consider. Just call up couple places where they recover information from crashed HDDs - a good 80% of them are 200-250G drives. And it is insainly expensive to recover information too... We had a guy with crashed HDD still on warranty and he needed that footage for court. Ouch... Other then that - you are not safe from crashes anyway, because of the amount of data constantly being recorded on drives...

The very best DVR card
Sentry360 replied to Integratek's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I know, you are right. As a matter of fact, we are trying to get our programmer over here... At least one for now. -
I wouldn't worry about lack of space on DVRs from fragmentation. Unless you record in very small portions... Witch is highly unusual. Fragmentation will be a problem if you have a ton of small files, so unless it is jpeg we talk about, you would have to record for a looong time to even notice it.

They have a 'better' marketing. Do you see a lot of capture card mfg's at trade shows? They are present.

Geo = Candy How do you get customers to work with you? Show them the candy. We have this line of 360-degree surveillance cameras from iPIX. Gets you in the door 100% of the time - sales take it from there... Simple as that. Its business we talk about after all. -

Hybrid Systems
Sentry360 replied to Sentry360's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've seen them somewhere... Hmm... I think when I was looking for decent IP Software. They claim that any DirectShow compatible DVR card will work with their software... What kind of DVR card do you use, Rory? -
Hey, thanks for hacking advice. Are you one of those guys walking around with the laser attached to a rifle scope? Is that a fact that it will lock up? I never heard of it....

Ahhh, yes... Forgot about PTZ This fish-eye lence technology cannot compare to PTZ in terms of quality - it is strictly for situational awareness. However - I must tell you - they are in the same price range. So its kinda hard to tell what is better, but I can tell you what is deffinetly going to be better! The mix of both is going to be perfect: The 360-camera captures activity in all directions, and PTZ camera automaticly zooms in on the area of interest. Takes a snapshot, stores in database and forgets about it.... If anything happens - the 360 camera will have it on footage, and PTZ can pull the mug shot in hi-res for evidence..... Now that would be nice! I dont think anyone has it - but I have couple guys working on it We'll see....

need recomendations for DVR setup
Sentry360 replied to MamBo's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Looks like you are enjoying your stay here... Well thats good. I've seen about 10 of your posts in last 2 minutes. NICE. keep it up. no. really. I mean it. As of the topic: you can use GeoVision (seems like the thread is overtaken by GV haters ), they have a new feature - 2-way audio... thats something you where looking for, correct? And the rest of your requirements will be met. Dont blame me for liking GV.... I'm just an innocent bystander. -
Ip cameras over coaxial cable.
Sentry360 replied to jacan's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Now.... I have a question. Why in the world would you need to run a Network camera over coax if you dont even need built-in Web Server in the first place?????? As you know IP camera is the same as analog camera - only it converts signal in IP. So let me draw it for you: Analog -> IP -> Analog(coax) -> NVR or DVR? If you want to use DVR then you dont need Network cameras - use analog. If you are trying to use NVR then why not get separate converters for analog cameras? Meaning: Analog -> coax -> IP Converter I think cost-wise you are in a better shape using analog cameras with IP converters (if you even need them) -
We use this cameras - they are pretty good and disent price.

You guys.... I remember ISC East Show this november... Talk about professionalism - there was a company based in NY (cant remember the name), selling usual staff like DVR, cameras, etc. So anyways - this two guys walk around the floor promoting their products with the "Hooters" looking broad in a tiny tank top! I was lathing so hard they got embarrassed and left. I mean c'mon! This is like the biggest show of the year and they bring that to the table What a bunch of loosers.
