Problems with PTZ and no brand camera

I didn't mention the RS 485 wires because, that seems to be a given. But, ya never know.. -
Problems with PTZ and no brand camera
bulletproof77 replied to tenbrink's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I would try Pelco D or P and a baud rate of 2400/9600. What you set on the DVR (along with camera ID) must match the camera's protocols. By leaving the DIP switch in the on position, it "usually" gives the camera an ID of 01. However, not knowing the brand or protocols your kind of shooting in the dark. -
Problems with PTZ and no brand camera
bulletproof77 replied to tenbrink's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
You can try turning the first of the DIP switches (from left to right on your left) to "on" (up). make sure remaining switches are off (down). DIP setting are sometimes different, especially in no name brand PTZ's. See if their is another board to set baud rate and protocols. Sometimes the problem can also be in setting camera ID and protocols within the DVR. -
God, my lawn REALLY sucks in that picture....wife got a new Labrador puppy and my grass just hasn't been the same..(sigh)

I don't check this EVERDAY "armyof one"...I have a life and a business to run. And with your attitude, perhaps you need to do this research on your own. Yes, I have tried the new generation Sony CCD II chip. It was in a generic Sony camera given to me by a manufacturer's rep to try. I couldn't see a big difference or justify the price they will want. I am simply not one of the "big fish". I still think the Exview is more cost effective for me...Since you seem to know it all, then why do you need anyone else's input ???
-
I've used them, and I wasn't that impressed. I prefer the Exview. But, that is just my humble opinion. Exview was much better overall. To each his own though...

and looking at the date, I just realized that I REALLY need to change the internal battery on my DVR. I just upgraded to 500 gig and should of remembered when I had it open...My bad..

Lorex SG6080 Weatherproof Camera Questions
bulletproof77 replied to frostydeeps's topic in Security Cameras
Lorex are notoriously bad quality cameras..If you are looking for a better quality picture, try something with a Sony CCD chip in it. Plugging it in to a DVR card won't help much, especially if they are not digital cameras to begin with. But then, (not to be mean of course) what did you expect for $22 each ? Ebay can be a decent place for "starter cameras", plus there are a lot of very good vendors on this board. Not to plug....But.cctv imports is a good place to start as are many others.. -
RS485 from controller to unknown PTZ
bulletproof77 posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ok, I'm used to "pinning out" stuff with a diagram. I have a customer who has an unknown variety (pretty sure Chinese) PTZ with an RS485 controller. CAT 5 has been run to the PTZ from the controller, but there are no diagrams etc to go on. Controller does not PTZ, but good video and PTZ does self test on power up. Standard BNC video, power and 2 wire RS485 connection from PTZ. On controller (another "plain wrap") is a 4 wire (2 in and 2 out) RS485 connector. I am stumped,as I am not too hip on RS 485 connections. I'd like to get it working for her if I could. Could it be the baud switches ? Or how exactly do you wire RS 485 ?? Thanks, it's driving me a little nuts.... -
Bosch Flexidome BNC repair
bulletproof77 replied to elproducto's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
sure you can buy one at even Radio Shack (Ugh) and install with your RG59 stripper (available at Home Depot etc...)....Not hard at all -
What do you want it to do ? They "track" using either motion detection or a pre-set "tour" that you set the parameters for. Another poster was right in stating that PTZ's are "dumb" to a point. They can "auto-flip" but it's almost like setting the limits on a CCTV scanner, just more complicated. They won't "track" some objects and their limits are pretty narrow. I know this didn't help at all. The best real time tracking is with a human operator.

My first CCTV camera - Need a crash course in dipswitches.

I got tons of spam (in Chinese no less) to my Yahoo mail account from that clown....BAN -
I have been experimenting with cams from Vissior. (Available from seller lammensco on Ebay). The XR 340 and XR 350 are really good IR cameras for a cheap price. Will try and enclose a snapshot from my driveway. The cameras have been in operation for 3 months now, without a problem.

Yes, I agree with all of you. No more trying to "be nice" on estimates or cutting a "deal" with a potential customer. The extra work, the return trips (@4.00 a gallon too) and the sometimes "Gee, I thought that picture would look like High Def" comments just get to be a bit much. And those darn "bargain brand" cameras usually turn out to be no bargains at all. LOL@Rory and those damn cheap domes, been there, done that, all while hanging off a 10 foot ladder !! From now on, my quotes will reflect true costs plus a fair profit..

I just recently did a 8 cam plus DVR job at a high end dog kennel in an upscale area of Pasadena, CA. Took almost a week, 2-3 stories, crawling over snarling dog kennels etc. Wierd 50's construction , owner who couldn't make up mind etc. Installed decent factory Sony chip cams (not Ex-view) good resolution, not PERFECT at night mind you, (but she didn't want to pay for that perfect night vision). DVR on-line etc job under 2K. Changes her mind before final payment. Now I'm stuck, have to pay my installers for a *** of a job etc. Have to go back and re-install Ex-View cams (4) to satisfy her Majesty for no more funds. What a PIA !! I think I'm just going to go all Ex-view and bid them appropriately from now on. I hate going back to an installation for anything other than maintenance..

sorry, I still have a real job and don't check this everyday. On the camera I bought to test out on Ebay (KCUSA ???) I just ran the wires to a dvr with an RS485 adapter. Using the dvr, it did work OK. I could even operate the zoom remotely. Why yours isn't working I cannot begin to guess. I didn't "short" the wires-perhaps the problem isn't with the camera, but any type of controller you may be using ? KCUSA is pretty good at tech support. You also have to "pin" the 5 pin plug correctly. If you got a diagram of the pin out you may want to check that.

As I thought. The bulk of Pelco products are still manufactured and assembled by Americans in California. Thank you God-my faith was shaken for a moment there. Made calls-plants still there..

Greetings from Central California ! I was employed by Pelco in Clovis, CA for many years. I now am semi-retired, but still do custom high end installations, primarily small high risk business establishments. I also do residential installations. Although I do prefer Pelco and or Bosch equipment, I must say some of the new stuff coming out is really great. If I can answer any Pelco questions let me know. If I don't know the answer (and I sure don't know everything-who does ??) I can usually find one from my old contacts.

absolutely, use CAT 5 or 6 wire. should work fine, I know the camera you purchased.

Camera question from someone who doesn't know much
bulletproof77 replied to osmanm's topic in Security Cameras
383 ExWave is nice, but it's got that weird built in lens, but good picture. Speco works well too. Are you sure you don't want to do color ? If you work with it and can be flexible on the lighting you can get some good pictures during the day...Just a thought. -
When I retired from Pelco in 2005, PTZ's were still being made in Clovis. Cameras were made of Sony internals, lens made in Japan. Last I heard, some of the new min-Spectra lines had parts from Korea, although manufacturing is still taking place in California. I never thought they'd stoop so low to use Chinese junk in a Pelco. I need to make some calls and find out what/where..Hope my engineer friends are still employed.
-
Ebay is an excellent place to start. Do a search for "pelco" on ebay's advanced search option. I have sold several on ebay. Just be careful what model you bid on and remember to get the complete 3 piece unit if available, the dome, backbox and housing.

Camera question from someone who doesn't know much
bulletproof77 replied to osmanm's topic in Security Cameras
Sorry Rory, didn't read my posts. I am using the factory Sony cams, bought too many "clones" that had bogus Exview chips in them. Don't get me wrong, I love all things Panasonic, for reliability and consistency you can't beat Panasonic (I have Panasonic on my own HOME system). It's just that I have a tough time justifying the price on a multi-cam system and can save them a ton using the Sony chip cams and the resolution is always good. -
pelco SD ptz ceiling install help
bulletproof77 replied to golden1967's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Pelco does not recommend using EMT conduit. However, since I am no longer employed by them, I can tell you that Survtech is right on the money. Saw tons of good installs using EMT but he is right in using the best quality fittings with the strapping as a back-up. EMT conduit is thick enough that it won't break.
