square v round plug for auto iris

Yes, that is correct. They have been doing some really nice marketing lately. I met that girl at the ISC show in Las Vegas. I believe she is a Playboy model or something. Wish I had thought of things like that when I had my company. Leave it to younger guys to come up with hot models for their booth and advertising. Good thing I sold the company and retired. I've heard many of my old customers saying that VSSI is the place to go for CCTV in this area since I retired because they are the only ones left that specialize in CCTV and doesn't dilute it with so many other lines like the main distributors, and they feature hot models. Maybe you should have a section featuring all the topless beaches you have in Australia. I'm sure that would be a big hit.

HELP Urgent !!! DVR Selection Compare

Oz, you have it right but in reverse. Samsung Techwin is the official Samsung source for factory products. Samsung/GVI is an importer of Samsung products as well as many other products and is based out of Texas. GVI is essentially a distributor of Samsung products, not a manufacturer. I used to handle both lines when I had a distributing company and am familiar with the products. GVI has an exclusive import deal with Samsung to bring in cameras under their own part numbers, but they are not an official Samsung company. This causes great confusion here in the U.S. and seems to cause confusion elsewhere. Since Samsung/GVI also imports other cameras, dvrs, etc the quality isn't always as good and that is where things get sticky since most people believe those inferior products are also Samsung products. Needless to say GVI likes to blur the relationship so that customers believe all the products are Samsung. Although GVI doesn't outright lie to people about the relationship they certainly don't go out of their way to point out that many of their products are nothing more than the run of the mill low end imports that many companies like COPS bring in.

    Weather

In Los Angeles and in most of SoCal we usually suspend outdoor installations when it gets exceedingly cold or the weather turns exceptionally bad. Generally that means if the temperature drops below 60 deg, or if we have a mist type rain, or if the surf is up down at the beach. Oh, also earthquakes can be a problem if you are up on a ladder adjusting a camera.

square v round plug for auto iris

Robert Watts at Richardson Electronics in Chatsworth, CA usually has both types of connectors available and also the wiring diagrams. Try giving him a call at 800-488-7978. He is the best person around when it comes to the older style cameras and auto iris lens configurations.
  5. Just ran across this very handy little item from CBC (Computar) that lets you focus auto iris lenses during daytime hours. One of the biggest problems in focusing an auto iris lens is that if you focus it during the day you almost never get a good picture at night. This is caused by the depth of field effect of a tightly closed iris. This little accessory from CBC helps to overcome that problem. Below is a link to the item. http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/access/man_cfb1.pdf

    Whose DVR?

I know I've seen someone list this DVR before but can't find the message. It claims 120 fps but is that really true? Any other comments on the performance and also the remote viewing would be appreciated. http://surveillanceoutfitters.com/product.asp?productid=601

    Samsung Techwin

Best site I have seen for cost is www.vsscctv.com but you have to sign up as a dealer first which should be no problem for you. They have Ganz listed as well as hundreds of other products.

    Samsung Techwin

This is still considered one of the best if not "the" best wide dynamic camera available. http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=66976&catGroupId=14458&modelNo=WV-CP474&surfModel=WV-CP474

    Samsung Techwin

Samsung is confusing. Samsung Techwin is the official Samsung factory in the U.S. Samsung/GVI is an importer that buys some Samsung and also many other import products and private labels them here. Samsung/GVI is located in Texas and Samsung Techwin is in NJ. You cannot send a Samsung bought from Samsung/GVI back to Samsung Techwin for repair. Street comments on Samsung/GVI are mixed as to customer service, etc. Choose with caution when you are buying from Samsung/GVI since many of the products are not much different than COPS, Arcvision, etc.

    What F-stop lens is recommended?

Most likely it will be out of focus. During the day when the iris is stopped down you will get a very wide depth of field but at night it narrows down a lot. Not much you can do about it so choose what is best with the lens fully open.

    What F-stop lens is recommended?

Perhaps a camera with built in IR illumination would work best. Depending on your budget you can go for a low cost system or up to the Extreme CCTV. Here are a couple of links to check out. http://www.at-fairfax.com/Camera/Infrared.htm http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?fam=3

    DVR advice

Are you going to have sites that have a DVR and IP cameras at the same location? If so you'll need a DVR that has the ability to handle inputs for conventional video and IP video. There aren't too many DVRs that can do that. Here is a link to a DVR site that claims they have the ability to mix both conventional cameras and IP cameras into one DVR. http://www.silicor.com/

    Color Problem.

Exactly what brands have you been using? Generally speaking you should get some rock solid color pictures with Sanyo, Sony, Panasonic. Taiwanese brand cameras or even some Korean can have color fluctuations depending on switch settings and lighting conditions.

    Color Dome Problem

It sounds like the automatic light compensation is reacting to the 60hz variations in the lighting since those lights are actually switching on and off at 60 times per second and low end ALC can't compensate. You have to find a way to turn of the ALC. If not you probably won't be able to use them in this instance.

  17. Now that General Solutions has dropped their association with Sunjin does anyone know who's boards they are using in the new products? I also noticed that All Digital Security has changed their CQ Max products from Picasso boards to Sunjin boards. Lots of churn going on in the DVR card OEM race.

    License plate capable cameras

If you have the budget then you should look at the Extreme CCTV RegView which are maybe the best license plate capture cameras on the market. Very pricey though. http://www.extremecctv.com/reg_cat.cfm

    General Solutions

I saw Big Wide at the ISC show and was totally unimpressed with their product. Either they have improved greatly or GSS is in for a big drop in sales. This is the same board that Rainbow uses in their low end PC Based DVR. Am I thinking of a different company?

  24. Get the DC style. It is the newest type of lens. The video drive is older technology. A bonus is that the DC style is much less money.

    Picasso Leaving U.S.?

I heard that Picasso gave up selling DVRs under their own name already. They had a place set up in Texas and were at the ISC show and now a local source said they packed up and left and sold all of their inventory to Unix in Los Angeles. Anyone heard something about this? Also same source said that General Solutions and Sunjin are on the outs. Wonder what board General Solutions is going to use. Has anyone definitely identified the board that Pelco is using for the DX-8000? I thought it was Picasso but now I heard that it is Kodicom. Wonder what they are really using. Lot of churn going on in the DVR card industry.
