Need info/recommendations about cards, brands, dealers
AVCONSULTING replied to ChuckM's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
One more factor to consider between PC based and embedded. When something goes wrong with a PC based you can almost always figure out a fix in the field. Embedded has to be sent back to the factory and who knows how long it will be before you get it back. -
When exactly is the trade show? Good thing you checked your ticket. I like Chinese food better than Korean food anyway. Guess you'll be seeing the Geovision guys. Tell them I evaluated their system at the Geovision Irivine location and I hate the GUI. We decided not to use them in our OEM project because the GUI sucked.

If you want the DVR not to be based on a computer then you should consider the Kalatel DVR. It is an embedded system. Here is a link for that company. http://www.geindustrial.com/ge-interlogix/kalatel/prd_digital_rec.html

If any card companies will be around, Geovision will be one of them. Geovision's two main drawbacks are a confusing GUI and a lack of restraint when it comes to distribution. The second wouldn't be a problem for your project, only for guys trying to sell them. The first you should be able to overcome pretty easily since it sounds like you have computer savvy people who will be using the dvrs. Geovision certainly has the staying power in this industry and it is loaded with features. -

I'm not sure how you would remotely view the DVR and control it without using a computer. If you are looking for a pretty good deal on a nice DVR then contact Fairfax. They have a very good deal on the 3R system. Here is a link to that unit. http://www.at-fairfax.com/DVR/3R.htm Talk to Paul Ramos about the unit and its capabilities. He should be able to answer all of your questions.

That camera was discontinued awhile back. You might want to email Vicon and see if they have something on it in their archives. Try this email. aklein@vicon-cctv.com

I've heard that this company has some pretty low pricing on lenses. You might want to check them out. http://www.telpix.com/

Check with Paul at this company. I think he can get you those cameras at a pretty good price. http://www.at-fairfax.com/

One thing to add. The single channel DVRs we are talking about have no networking or remote abilities. If you need that then you are better just getting an integrated DVR.

I think they might, but who knows. I don't trust any Korean suppliers to give anyone an exclusive for very long. -
This is the standard of audio in the CCTV industry. Been around for ages. http://www.louroe.com/

Richardson Electronics has several old instruction manuals around, maybe they will have one they can fax to you. Check with Robert Watts at the Richardson Glendale office. His email is rwatts@rell.com

It won't be small recordings since the mux records single full size frames unlike a quad. You can also vary the quality of the recording in the DVR and save some space if needed. The drawbacks is that all of your adjustments are universal instead of based on each camera. It is more like a direct VCR replacement with some added features such as quick access to video, higher resolution than a VCR and tapeless of course.

Yes I agree, Nuvico is one of the better secondary brands that have come out. It also has dynamic IP if needed. http://www.nuvico.com/product_images/NVDV-4000N_8000N_16000N.Revised.pdf -
Someone got a great deal. That was one of the best cameras Sanyo made. Only problem I can see with the combo is that the camera is a 1/2" chip format and the lens is a 1/3" format. This could cause a slight tunnel effect around the picture edges, but might not be noticeable. I sold hundreds of those cameras and they had a killer picture and excellent low light capability. The price it went for is a steal.

Picture quality will be better in a dedicated DVR/Multiplexer combo and you will also get features such as motion detection recording. But your cost is much greater. I've done several swap outs of VCRs with single channel DVRs and they work great. Very low cost way to upgrade. You don't need an expensive single channel DVR. Something like the Vitek would work just fine. http://www.vitekcctv.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=162

16-Camera System Ideas...
AVCONSULTING replied to Rock Austin's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Dedicated Micros and Kalatel are the two best embedded systems around and are very stable. The main drawback is they take up more hard drive space than a PC based system. I personally prefer the Kalatel system, now under the GE Security label. I've represented many PC based systems and truthfully they all have had some problem or other. If you have the budget then get the Kalatel. -
There are tons of intersection cameras in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. In fact one of my best revenue streams came from the City of Irvine buying cameras and equipment for their intersection surveillance program. How do you propose getting the signals back to the police station? Do you have line of sight available for microwave, or will you be able to drop DSL to the area and use IP cameras? Most important do they even have the budget or the will to do something?

Anyone familiar with this company? Any experiences or pricing you might have regarding them. Ran into a Digiguard unit at a local dealer. Wasn't really impressed with it but they had it at a pretty low price. http://www.webcher.net/html/pro-main.html

This seems to be one of the best deals I've seen for a GeoVision which is a good quality DVR card. Here is a link for you. http://www.turbocctv.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TC&Product_Code=VCC-GV250-4
