  1. Thanks for the replies they are very helpful.. One question... is there any Pure IP software that does POS txt overlay/database? do they do it with software solution? or a piece of hardware attached to the POS terminal? Again this is going to be a Bar... and almost all bartenders on a busy night pad the tip jar.. good ones can do it right in front of you!! I'm just asking questions as i can think of them.
  2. I've recently installed a few systems at friends restaurants/bars and am now curious about IP as 2 of them asked me about them. I just told them they are much more expensive but much higher quality. One friend is gutting his restaurant and making a high end bar so i would like for him to add 2 IP cameras to his 2 front doors. So what i'm thinking for next install is a dvr card that is analogue but supports ip too. and put an IP camera at door where there is usually more light, for a chokepoint, but i really just would like to install an IP system just to learn.
  3. Problem Fixed, I installed a 1 user license of Milestone Software.. up and running no problem. Now i just want to test the software out and what does the remote IE client look like... and if you can playback old footage over IE. This Board has been slow.... Are there any other cctv forums out there?
  4. I was just wondering what do the pro installers use the most? Geovision Avermedia? nuuo? hikvision? or have you been using standalones ? I'm just getting started but lately i've seen more and more clients with mac's at home.. How have you dealt with that? just have them run a VM? (Virtual Machine with windows?) i just tried an avermedia card and i'm unable to get remote playback over IE working properly.. i'm going to try again tomorrow but if it's difficult to playback old footage... the card is useless to me as this is the most important feature for most my clients.
  5. Ok, in one of my stores i want to set up POS integration and have the register info go to the screen output.. what txt inserter do you use for that? Also if i want to add 2 IP cameras is it possible? I have 6 cameras set up on an 8 camera system. One more question.. If i want to set up a system with 8 analogue cameras and 8 IP cameras... what do i have to do? i buy an 8 camera avermedia card, then what? buy a license? for a 16 cam system? Thanks for any help
  6. yclin, do you have any live demos of software up and running? Do nuuo cards require IE only?

    Remote Viewing with Blackberry

I'll second this... i've now had 3 people ask if they can view it over their blackberry.

Any Live Demos of an Avermedia NV5000 card?

Thanks for the DEMO!! is it difficult to add ip cameras to this?
  11. thanks for the links.. quick question.. what do you reccomend for low cost ip megapix cams? I'm just getting started installing cctv systems and want to see if i can sell an IP system.. most installs are bars/restaurants for me.. so what i'm thinking is possibly a mixed system.. having 2-3 ip cameras at front door for good pics of faces.. and possibly exits.

    What do the Pros use?

Anyone have any good places for nuuo cards? What about a full demo of remote software? most of my clients want to be able to view remotely AND view past footage over IE... to see what time employees closed the store.. I'm just getting started building systems and have tested out Divis cards (easiest software yet.. all customers have loved ease of use especially remote playback of old video over IE ) Avermedia cards.. but i have been unable to get the remote playback over IE to work at all.. i can view live just fine.. no remote playback and i have all ports forwarded correctly... Geovision cards i haven't had a chance to play with yet...

    What do the Pros use?

does VI work with only their own cards? or with any card? are they software only?
  15. Weird i just installed a 16 channel Divis and have 2 external drives working on it... must be usb 2.0 otherwise it runs very slow.. Just make sure you use the divis dbtool.exe in the install folder first(it's a small app that initilizes the actual DVR program to see the drives.)... THEN add using the system tools inside the program... I have 2 500 gig external drives going on this box...

    Divis dvr cards?

I have installed 4 of these cards in systems all with the cheapest ATI video card i could find... and all have been running perfectly, and the longest has been running for 4 years straight now.. only 2 fans on the computer have died. Try buying a $30 ATI video card and pop it in the boxes see what happens then.. $30 is a small fee to pay to never have to go back out... Oh yea.. the only issue i've had with one of these cards is when i used the onboard video... it worked but i had to turn on hardware "something" i forget, and i had to bump up the memory from the bios.. like someone else said above. Also don't forget to check the Error Log that windows has... the Event Viewer... and you have to vent PC's if they are in a hot office under a desk all day.
  18. just wondering if anyone had and comparison video of a Geo hardware based DVR card VS a software based DVR card?

Geo Hardware vs Software based quality?

Bump #3 Am i the only one that thinks playback of software compression cards is better then hardware? Can anyone provide any samples?

    Divis MPG96032AMX

I have used these cards and all have been running just fine.. As far as tech support goes they are on point and always pick up phone as long as you are calling during working hours. The few problems i had with software they walked me through over phone and I have 3 systems with these cards running on them all have been running rock solid, the remote web interface is very easy, and you can EASILY search through old video footage remotely, very intuitive and easy. Check out their web demo on their site.. It's easy for "normal" people to use. they also have an iPhone app in the works.. Other then that i have never used or installed a Geovision card so i can't compare.

    Speco Intensifier cams...

I saw these cameras at ISC East 2008.. i also got a USB stick with a comparison video (about 5megs) i can email to ya if you want. I was impressed. But again these cameras have their places. The rep had a camera mounted to the wall and put a box over the camera to completely block out all light.. you could still see the image in the box faintly. He then slightly cracked the box off the wall(a dimes width) to let a little light in and the cameras did their job you can see the image perfectly clear! Again i'm not sure how they would do in a bar/restaurant with lots of movement, but these are pretty good at what they do.

    ISC East - Anyone?

Just wondering if anyone is going and what advice to give to a person that is just starting out with cctv. I'm also looking for some ideas on point of sale fliers to hand out to small businesses. Any companies in particular to look at? Thanks

Geo Hardware vs Software based quality?

bump.. just wondering if anyone has any sample clips of playback of hardware vs software based compression.
  25. How long does it usually take for someone to set up a commercial account with geo? It's been about 15-17 days so far after sending paperwork back with tax-id's and no response? I'm looking for possibly a non hardware compression card.. the hardware compression based cards video record quality is just not as good as the old software based ones. I'm going to be doing a bar/restaurant for a close friend of mine, and he has an existing DVR in his first restaurant, it's definatly a software based card playback record quality is good. So i'm worried about hardware based cards as the playback will not look as good as his (and my) old software based card. And if we get a little crazy... be able to port POS display onto video from the bars. I'm still not sure how he will feel about day/night cams domes or bullet and all that jazz... but thats for another post.
