Decent IP Cameras Under $250 each?
cheetokhan replied to jdoggg1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Costco.com had them on the site last Friday. I got a pair of the Lorex Full HD 1080p PoE Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision cameras, Item #767194, but the bullets were available too. They sell out really fast. -
Power injector for lorex
cheetokhan replied to tekkie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Since you mentioned Netgear- I have a couple of GS110TP 8 port gig Poe switches with dual SFP slots and they work OK, but the user interface is terribly slow and I cannot access them from outside my LAN. I don't know why they won't connect through my router. I replaced them with a couple of American Fibertek C10P-Poe switches off eBay and these work fantastic. -
ESC-1 IP 1.3 MP 720P verus Dahua HFW2100
cheetokhan replied to th111447's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This video looks foggy because the IR LEDs in the FW2100 are being reflected off the porch ceiling back into the lens. I had the same problem. My cameras are mounted under my garage eaves, pointing out across my patio and driveway. I set them back a bit to protect them from the weather so the lens is about 3 or 4 inches back form the facia. I painted that small area of the eaves, directly over the camera, up to the facia, flat black and it greatly reduced the foggy effect in the image. The way you have the camera mounted in your video, I don't know how you can fix the problem. You would have to paint the entire ceiling flat black. Also, that huge freaking spider is really creeping me out. -
2 1080P IR Bullets at Costco for 349
cheetokhan replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This is where it's handy to have a managed Poe switch. You could log into your switch to verify that the camera is drawing power. If you don't have a managed switch, you can try covering up the photocell to see if the IR LEDs turn on. -

IP camera and PC No router near.
cheetokhan replied to bass1176's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Years ago, I set up a PC like you are describing. It had a WiFi network connection to the internet (router) and I set up its Ethernet port to bridge to the wireless network. So I know it can be done, but that was way back in Windows 98. I believe the option in Windows was called ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). Try doing a search on that. -
Dahua cameras now at Costco
cheetokhan replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I got a few 3.6mm Megapixel lenses form eBay seller tvdigital2 and they work great. He has wider lenses, but they don't say Megapixel so I didn't try them. -
Thanks. Does anyone know what this changes from the Costco QSee firmware? Software Version 2.100.QS00.8.R, build : 2012-07-19 WEB Version 3.0.0.0

The Video/Audio screen shows the drop down selection for Video Quality ghosted out and set to "Lowest". Why? Is it because Bitrate Type is set to Constant? -
I had originally purchased IP Cam Viewer to monitor my Trendnet TV-IP422w cameras, but IP Cam Viewer works with just about every IP camera or DVR in existence and the developer continuously adds more cameras and options to the software. Well worth the ten bucks I paid.
-
IP Cam Viewer, in the Market, works great with my NV5000. It is much better than the Avermedia app.

I've been running it for a few weeks on my HTC EVO with no problems at all. Its limited- it just shows video, no audio and no PTZ control, but I'm happy with what it does.
-
I asked Avermedia this same question on 6/28/2010 and this is their reply: "At the moment we do not have an app for Andriod phones. It is still under development and we do not have a date when it will be released. We apologize for any inconvenience."

It will only send data out your ISP if you have set it up to send recorded data to a remote server or if you are remotely connected to it from an off-site location. If you are not connected and you have not configured it to send data to a server, it can't upload anything. There has to be some other device to upload to. If you want to track your actual ISP data rather then your PC network port activity, check out dd-wrt or tomato firmware for linksys and other consumer routers. They let you look at and log your data rates up and down from your ISP.

It looks like the error you're seeing is from the DVR program telling you that your ports are not available in your PC. I don't believe this has anything to do with your router. Looks more like a Windows OS problem or some other application is using or blocking the required ports inside your PC. I would reinstall Windows and then install only the DVR software, no other apps, and see if your server works. I'm running the NV5000 card with the latest DVR Avermedia software and it does seem rather picky about what other apps are running. I did not have any problems with the server, but my PC kept rebooting until I wiped it and reinstalled Windows, making this into a dedicated DVR machine with no other apps running. Now it runs all day, every day, flawlessly.[/b]

This may be a silly question... Do I have to press record?
cheetokhan replied to pochrist's topic in AverMedia
No, you don't have to press the record button. Go into Setup. Select "System Setup", and turn on "Auto record when login". Then go to "Schedule" and select the days you want to record. I just hit the "All" button. Now go to "Recording" and turn on the type of recording you want for each individual camera. -
Any recommendations on modern motherboards for the NV5000?
cheetokhan replied to cheetokhan's topic in AverMedia
I ended up using a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard with a Nvidia video card. It's been working well for a few months now. -
I've read through the posts here and I've read the FAQs on Avermedia's site. Avermedia recommends Asus motherboards. They also have a list of tested motherboards, but the boards on their list are pretty much obsolete. So, can anyone suggest a modern motherboard with a newer Intel chipset that will work well with a NV5000?

NV5000 + DVR Application disables Hibernate in windows
cheetokhan replied to pochrist's topic in AverMedia
I also have the NV5000 in a similar system and have noticed that the program overrides some other Windows features. I have my DVR PC set up to monitor my second home. I am not there much, so I use the DVR to monitor things and send me emails on motion detect. It works well, but the Avermedia app disabled my windows login password. I had my PC setup so you had to use a password on startup and to exit the screen saver. After I installed the Avermedia program, my pc no longer requires a password at start up and the screensaver is completely disabled. Seems kinda stupid that they did this because my PC no longer has any protection when someone breaks in and wants to access all my files. I tried editing the registry to force the PC to require a password at login and I found a way to do it, but then I had trouble with the Avermedia program. I finally just gave up and made the DVR a dedicated machine. I wiped the drive and did a fresh Windows install and did not load anything but the Avermedia software. Now, if the PC gets stolen, the thief won't get any personal data. Of course, I then had to build a second, secured PC for all the other things I need my PC to do. I should have just bought a standalone DVR box from the start. -
Which DVR card provides the BEST capture quality?
cheetokhan replied to kujo999's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You wouldn't by chance happen to work for them? Frankly to say,I am a sales of HighEasy company . But you are suggested to try HighEasy brand DVR card. You could google search to our web, then to email us. Thanks in advance Eddie HighEasy Co. / CSST (New York Stork Exchange symbol:CSR) I have a HighEasy card that cost me $200 off eBay. It's garbage. The video on all inputs randomly loses sync making the image "jump", triggering the motion detect and sending me nonstop emails. The seller was no help and HighEasy does not respond to emails. I replaced the HighEasy piece-o-crap with an Avermedia NV5000 and now life is good. -
I have used wireless cellular routers from Dlink and from Zyxel. Dlink is cheaper, but the Zyxel Zywall 2WG is far more robust, reliable, and flexible. The only catch is that these routers only work with specific models of PCMCIA (and USB for the Dlink) Aircards. You have to make sure you get the correct card for the router. I use Sprint, Verizon, and ATT cards in my laptop on a regular basis to access my Avermedia DVR PC and it works great. I live in an area where I get true 3G performance on all three networks, so performance is great. At this time, my Avermedia DVR PC is connected to a cable modem with 500Kbps outbound data rate. I'll soon be installing an ATT cellular card as a backup circuit using a Zyxel Zywall 2WG router.

It's been a long time since I tried DDWRT and I can't remember what it was I didn't like about it; there was some feature I needed that didn't work right, but I can't recall what it was. I do remember that when I tried to switch back from DDWRT to the Linksys firmware, my router got bricked. I found a procedure on the web to short a couple of traces on the routers board, then FTP Tomato up to the router. It worked and I can switch back and forth between Tomato and Linksys without any trouble. Since Tomato does everything I need, I never tried DDWRT again. That same router is still working fine by the way. I'll have to give the latest DDWRT another try on one of my spare routers and see if it works better.
-
I prefer Tomato firmware. I've had problems with DDWRT. Right now, I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router, but I've also used Buffalo routers with good success.

I'm running an NV5000 at 1280*1024 using an Nvidia 7600GS card and an older 18" Dell LCD and it works perfect.
