    Hikvision IP cameras

I've never dealt with their customer service, but have dealt with other Asian customer service and had nothing but bad luck. I have sent support requests to one company (about 50 of them) and not one response. I have owned several Hik units and they are very solid. Mike from Shoreviewsecurity on here swears by them. The Ti chipset that they use does an excellent job IMO and I actually liked it better than my current model that has the Motorolla Blackfin. Here is a link to what looks like an excellent camera, I know the owner of the company and I could see about getting a sample or more if anyone wanted to go in on it with me. http://www.linovision.com/pages/products/ip/862mf_e/index.php I sent him an email requesting more info and I will see if he can set me up with a login to one for us to look at. I'll let you know what he says.

    Cisco/Linksys SRW2008MP

Thanks guys, I ended up getting the Linksys SRW224P 24 Port 10/100 PoE Switch +2 Gig Ports. Its on its way and I will let everyone know how it works out. It just seemed a little more robust and although its only 10/100, for home use I doubt that I would ever need a gig switch.
  4. I could ony find one post on this POE switch (Cisco/Linksys SRW2008MP), has anyone ever used it for IP camras. Does anyone know if its anygood? Thanks
  5. I like the Acti products, however the TCM-5311 vs the ACM-3411 or even their best dome the ACM-7411 is an unfair contest. The TCM-5311 will win hands down. For starters it has a CCD chip not a CMOS like the others. It also is one of the few available that gives you H.264 (plus the other two formats). But all this greatness has a price, the TCM-5311 is almost double the retail cost of the others and does not come with a lens like the others do (although the lens you get isn't the greatest it's still included) Check through their demos and sort by all cameras and then by night only. You don't get many samples, and of the ones you do get anything other than the TCM-5311 sample is sorta crappy (look at the car thief, now try and identify that person). Is this just that people didn't put any night video up or just a fluke??? Hmmmm. The TCM night samples are excellent though. I spoke with Acti at length and if you look at their product link under posters you see: http://www.acti.com/getfile/Product/literature_file/Megapixel_H.264_140x120.pdf http://www.acti.com/getfile/Product/literature_file/H.264_VGA_D1.pdf Here you see there is alot of cameras listed that you don't find in the regular products list. Alot more of the TCM models (Acti high-end stuff) and more with the H.264 format. I was advised that these new cameras will be coming out in either Q4 of this year or Q1 of next year and that this was just a taste of what was to come. So you may see this company producing even better stuff in the near future. Definitely a company to watch...

Camera View Problem in DVR Card

you have a dynamic ip where, your house, office, or both? you need to set the pc with the dvr card to a static ip, then set your router to port forward the internet traffic (usually port 80) to that ip address (check out portforward.com) then goto dyndns.com and make up a url to goto. This had been covered numerous times in this forum, if you use the search button at the top of the page you will find many topics on it. cya

    .5 Lux Lighting ?

Hmm look very carefully at 1231 and 5601 under good light in his garage for example at vacuum cleaner box 1231 kinda sucks low light agree 1231 is better Yes both cameras were in MPEG-4 mode (MJPEG looks worse to me). For some reason the 1231 was NOT quite as crisp, but then again like I said I didn't do any focusing on the 1231 because you have to literally take it apart. The 5601 has the CS mount lense so focusing perfectly is easy.

    .5 Lux Lighting ?

ok, the moment you've been waiting for First I will post pics from the 5601 I also have a 1231 that arrived yesterday and opened it for your pleasure. It has built in IR's and is very similar to the 3411 (guts wise) 5601 all the lights on (compact fluorescent not totally bright as daylight) 1231 all lights on 5601 only one light on 1231 one light on 5601 with 2 led nightlights 1231 2 led nightlights 5601 no lights with flashlight shining from behind 1231 no lights with external IR illuminator shining from behind 5601 with optimum lighting (huge work bench light, as close as I could get to daylight) and colors 1231 same thing Well, what do you think? All cameras were out of the box default settings, I didnt have time to tweak the saturation, etc. And both had some warping of the edges of the pictures, the 1231 was alot worse. Also the 1231 is a pain in the hiney to focus or zoom because you have to take the whole camera apart, no external focus or zoom So I didnt fool with it

FLIR is good for finding the people but virtually useless for any type of facial recognition or identification.
  17. Cool, well anyway welcome to the forum
  18. Ouch, I don't think he was trying to be a smart ass. No need for such aggression, remember you came here for help. To comment on his website is just being silly. If you actually went through his site you may find that it could be easily done yourself and save you some money. I think maybe that was what he was insinuating?? Don't know, I've been reading through here for sometime and from his prior posts, I don't think there was any intentional disrespect. In the past Scorpion has always been willing to help others.
