Al monitor manufactors changes their monitor lines to 16/9 or 16/10 aspect ratio types, as a replacement for the older 4/3 monitors. In fact 4/3 monitors with typical 1280x1024 or 1024x768 resolution start hard to get by these days. Most DVR's with VGA-output need a 4/3 monitor for optimal viewing. When a 16/9 TFT is connected to such a DVR all 4/3 video is shown in a 16/9 aspect ratio, and people look fat. Also with Geovision PC based software v8.2, I found that when selecting full screen viewing, it is the same problem. What solution are you guys using in such a situation? Just leave the 4/3 > 16/9 transformation like it is? Or trying to find 4/3 monitors? Then there a second factor responsible for some more quality reduction. Most TFT screens have a native resolution i.e. a 23" 16/9 model offering a 1920x1080 (fullHD) resolution. If the output of the DVR is only 1024x768, the monitor is working in a not optimal resolution. Even if a system can handle these modern hi-resolutions, how can it optimal display a matrix of 320x240 video channels? 6x320 = 1920 alright, but 4x240 is already 1200, to high for full HD (1920x1080). It looks like some black borders will be necessary.... or do we need widescreen camera's?

I notice that some manufactors state that their cam has IRC, or Auto ICR. Do they mean the same as IRCut, a mechanical IR filter? What does ICR stands for then; Infra Cut Red ICR also seems to be a brand name? So an IRcut filter is also responsable for a focus shift, Is a IR adjusted lens always the way to go in this combination? How to tell a lens is IR adjusted? I've never have seen it in the spec's.

On a recent installation I had lost 4 cam's by lightning strike. All cam's are installed inside and are the same type: a Chinese IR IP66 varifocal 12V model. There are connected with baluns over FTP to a GV800 card. The 4 cam's that are broken were all installed in a kind wet and cold production rooms where they use water and ice for perparing food... The other 2 still working, are in an office, coinsidence? Since the setup is located in an region w/o much lightning no surge protection was used. What went wrong and how to avoid this in the future?
-
Grounding is OK at the PC side and the 12 power for the baluns. Also there is ground fault circuit. But how can the camera's be grounded? There is only a 12V en coax connection going to the balun.

I'm struggling to get a 27x zoom camera to work in combination with a GeoNET-IO card and GV800. The noname camera has 6 connections on the RS485 part: +,-, Zoom, Focus, Menu & Common. The GeoNetIO has + and - connections and 4xIN+Ground and 4xOut+Common. First question: Should the + from the camera go to the + on the GeoIOnet card and - to - ? Or is just the other way + to - and - to +? Is there some way to diagnose such a setup? I tried lot's of combinations but no luck. The GeonetIO RJ11 connected to the PC's COM1 port and also had a try via USB (Com3). In the General Setup of Geo I choose Pelco Dome and activate this. Set to 9600, Pelco-P, Com1. Then in the PTZ control: choosen Addres 000 and also tried 001. (There a help note in the software saying, to be compatible the address of the systeem should be the address of the cam+1.) The cam is set to A:000 B:9600 PelcoP. I also tried to connect the Common of the camera to the Common (of the 4xIn) of the GeoNetIO card to exclud ground prob's but no difference. Who to get it working? Any tests methods? Do I need a terminator resistor?
-
OK, I've got it working now with PelcoD & 2400! No groundwire no terminator needed. Thanks guys. I noticed that in GV when you select PelcoD it is only 2400 and when you select PelcoP it is 4800/9600. Is that the limit of these protocols or why is it like this? The camera I use says PelcoD&P and the baud rate is selectable between 2400-9600 for both, so maybe when setting 2400 it is PelcoD, and 4800/9600 it is PelcoP? On another DVR I can choose baudrate from 2400 to 9600 for each protocol. This DVR also support lots of other protocols PelcoP, PelcoP1..6, PelcoD1, PelcoTZ,.... I need to use PelcoTZ to get it working there. Now with GeoVision, I stil struggling to use the Presets. I can Set a preset but recall one, seems not to work, strange. Same thing on the DVR. This can't be a camera issue I guess? On GeoVision is there some automation possible with the zoom (presets)? Can it zoom to a point when detecting motion or sensor input?

The map of the PTZ is OK in GeoVision. The manual of the cam says: Line Method: +/-5VDC, +/-12VDC, Bus method: RS485, Bus protocol: Pelco D&P, so it should be OK for use with RS485 and PelcoP protocol. I think the extra copnnectors for Zoom, Focus & menu are just an extra way. The camera has only motor Zoom no Pan or Tilt. Is there a way of checking the signal (with a meter or so) or diagnose this setup? There are lots of connections maybe there is something wrong along the way. The GeoNetIO is connected to the GV800 and PC power, also exteranl via the RJ11 to the PC's Com1, then the +/- connectors to the camera +/-, both sides have channel set to 000 & PelcoP 9600. I noticed that with the Geovision software & Pelco Dome setting, you can choose PelcoP (9400/4800) or PelcoD (2400). I'm not aware of the I/O protocol. Is this a method of using the output ports of GVNETIO to pulse the PTZ camera? How does it need to be connected then?

I noticed that inserting an imae link do'nt work for me. In the beginnen I had a message as a new user (must be >10days & 7?posts old) Now I'm OK with thes conditions, I don't get the message anymore but image tag doesn't work? BBCode is ON. example:

From various sources I found this on CCTV 75 Ohm cables: RG58 upto 200m/650ft (strange this RG58, I tought it was used in PC networking, and being 50 Ohm) RG59 upto 300-350m/980-1150ft RG6 upto 450-500m/1470-1640ft RG11 upto 610m/2000ft The longer the distance the better shielded (thicker) cable. But in an existing installation, how tell what type a cable is, when there are no markings/printings on it? Can you measure thickness? Or using a meter? I already noticed that RG58 has a thinner inner core than RG59 and therefore requires another crimp connector (3p with thinner pin). But what about RG6 & RG11 do those two also use specific crimps connectors? The ones I have for the RG59 are Amphenol's: ESO BNC CRIMP PLUG, P/N B1121A1-ND3G-3-75 The label also says: 75Ohm for 62AU cable. Is 62AU yet another type?
-
I noticed that a supplier advertised 2 types BNC couplers (see photo): one being 50 Ohm type and one being 75 Ohm type. I don't see how a connector can have an 50 or 75 Ohm Impedance? Is this nonsense or do BNC couplers (and other conversion plugs like BNC tot RCA,....) come in two type's?

I had a test run a couple of months ago. It's does what it says for testing and outlining, but I also noticed that each time you like to use this device you'll find the batteries are run out. Mine came with 6? AA NiMh 2700mA, but still...

RG58, RG59, RG6, RG11,.. how to recognise?
Kurt replied to Kurt's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
@ Scorpion: Why wouldn't you like o use RG11 for CCTV? To heavy? The linked photos don't tell me much more. There are markings on the cable, tough not always when it is 75 Ohm or 50 Ohm. Especially the RG58: But how to find out when it's 50 or 75 Ohm cable? The markings I see are: RG58 C/U coax cable MIL-C17-F or RG58 /U coax cable A. I also notice that cam-manufactor Tracer is also use these RG58 cable on their 1-cable tube cam's (power over coax). Can a 50 Ohm RG58 cables also be used for short distance CCTV cam's? -
If find them kinda intresting but like to find out more about them. What CCD is uses, Exview, IRcut, True D/N...? Exists in BW 600TVL 0.02lux & colour 480TVL 1lux: CS mount, BLC, Elec shutter: 1/50 (1/60)~1/100.000sec Iris:DC , S/N Ratio:>52dB AWB Worktemp: -20°C~50°C Synchronisatie system: Internal Video out: <1.2Vp-p/75 Ohm Also this one: 1/3" Sony super HAD CCD D/N 520 TVL, Lens: 3.6 mm, LED: 14x high power +/-50 m, S/R: >48 dB, Video out: 1 Vp-p, 75 Ohm IP66 Alloy casing Worktemp: -10°C~50°C 2 Kg (incl mountl), dim: 260x110x110mm 110~240 VAC

That helped me a lot. Now I'm sure I have no mech. IRcut filter on my box cam's. Originally I thought I had, because they change to B/W at night and especialy the Philips Dinion gives a good image. Rory, any change you have a picture of these lenses with build mech. IRcut filter? I can't image how it can work? Where does it get it signal & power from to operate? Are these removable mini board lenses? I noticed some True D/N tubes & domes in the Tracer range, I think they will be using this lens also. I made another picture: I think the left one (Tracer TS730EH) is using a IR pass filter and the right one (Philips Dinion LTC0455) is using an IRcut filter. These 2 models don't have a mech IRcut filter. But is a TRUE D/N cam with mech. IRcut filter using an IRcut filter at one side and a IR pass filter at the other side of the sliding filter holder?

Intresting stuff, Cameragimp, I'm a right to say when an IRfilter is used on a B/W camera that then this camera will be a little less sensitive due the filter in front of the CCD? So you have better grayscale but have to give up a little sensitivity? I had a look at 2 of my box Colour cam's; when you unscrew the lens, should you see the IRcut filter/mechanisme straight away? I don't see anything removable dough, maybe a fixed IR filter I'm not sure. Have a look at the pic's. (strange they don't come through, first I had this message for new users, but now, not anymore but still don't work?!? Pls. follow the link. What am I doing wrong? first pic: and the second; Oh, yes, ICR should stand for Ir Cut Removable. Mostly those Tawain & Korean manufactors make a mess of their discriptions of the camera's. My guess is to look for 'True IRcut' to find a cam with mech. IRcut. But sometimes you see Day/Night, IRcut, ICR,....

I read already a lot op topics here on this forum, but I'm missing the way that followed links/threads get coloured in a other than the not yet read links just like on other forums. So now there is no way for me to see after a search or so, what posts I'v already read. Is this possible some how or is just like that?

I'm wondering, sometimes in some war movie, you see a general looking with his IR binocular in total darkness. The image you get then is a kinda greenisch but fully detailed as far as you can see. This w/o any IR illumination. Is this reel? What kind of technique is that? Are there CCTV cam's outhere that work like like this?

I noticed that speeddome's and also other zoom cam's with RS485 always seems to be equipped with a 1/4" CCD while most others are common with 1/3" CCD. Why is that?
-
sounds reasonable to me, thanks. The picture of the Panasonic, is that a 1/3" or 1/4" cam then? 1/6"CCD's? How good may that be in very low light conditions? I have my doubts already on the 1/4".

I did some testing with various cam's to find that some cam's go to B/W mode in poor light conditions while others remain in color. I know there is the IRcut function where a IR filter is mechanically moved away from the lens at night. But I also have cam's w/o IRcut that also go in B/W to improve the image quality. What is the trick? Exview? Are cam's with IRcut always exview? Exview always uses IRcut?
-
Okay, but how to tell from the spec's when it's a 'fake'? Is this technic with the saturation always used in combination with the more sensitive Exview CCD's? Or do Exview always use an IRcut filter?

that's interesting to know these codes with their explanation. I had a look at 3 coax cables, unfortunatly I don't see any of these: -cable1: the thinnest of the 3, came from a tube cam which use power through coax. All it says is: 'Coaxial Cable RG-58U'. RG58 is 50 Ohm, mounted in the factory on a CCTV camera, strange? -cable2: 'CAVEL RG59 B/U MIL-C-17 75 Ohm', seems to have a solid metal core covered with copper, and also a full copper braid (also black outer). -cable3: 'coaxial cable RG59U 75 Ohm' full copper solid core, metal foil & copper braid. (white). When there are no markings at all (i.e. an old install) is there a way to find out what cable there is used? 50 - 75 Ohm RG58/59/6/11...
