Thanks for the responses. The cameras function on the old DVR which does look like a Argus h.264. The ADT system is using a "CONKIT" to power its 2 IR RJ-11 cameras. This is not powering the old cameras. I did not know that RJ-11 wasn't a standard pin pattern. I'm learning. Hopefully we didn't fry the cameras, they were decent cameras that worked OK for 5 years. Here is the CONKIT http://www.adt-matrix.com/app/webroot/img/FCKeditor/File/Specs_EN/1561-02CONKIT.pdf I will probably just buy 4 new cameras for the new DVR and set-up the old system and cameras at another location. Could someone suggest a decent color camera w/ IR for a small business. Somewhere in the range of $80-100 per camera would be ideal. If they would function with the ADT RJ11 CONKIT that would be a bonus. Thanks Again

I was wondering if anyone could provide some assistance with a problem I am having with a new security system and our old bullet cameras. Thank-you in advance. I am attempting to use 4 cameras from a "Security First 5005" system. These cameras are hard wired from the camera to a RJ-11 connector. I checked the Security First (sams club type system) manual and it confirms they are RJ-11. I do not know the power consumption but they are IR and carry audio. The new ADT system has power module to "power" the cameras thru RJ-11 and convert the video signal to the BNC connection. The existing 4 cameras will not power up or display any picture. Is this a problem in the wiring of the RJ-11 on the existing cameras or is the module not providing them enough power? The 2 ADT cameras (A-CBHD36JI) work find, display and power. The ADT camera info can be found here. http://www.adt-matrix.com/app/webroot/img/FCKeditor/File/Specs_EN/MNI2004-01.pdf Here is the Security first manual w/ the cameras that will not function with the new ADT system. http://securityfirstcamera.com/ddrivers/19DVR/SDVS-1904_or_5005_Manual.pdf

It must be my dvr. With a 40 sec buffer I am just getting a few seconds before motion and after motion. I've tried adjusting the motion sensitivity but I think it comes down to the capabilities of my DVR. If I set the standard 8 sec. (or even higher), I'll miss pre-recording motion.

With a 40 sec buffer I am guaranteed to get video before and after motion is detected. With a constant record as you mention, I would not be able to record for as many hours in total than using a motion recording with a buffer. For instance, during the night there may be no motion. What would be the point in recording constantly?

Here are some random stills from my EchoVue 404, 4 channel DVR w/ 500GB Maxtor. Set to motion with 40 sec buffer, each cam around 20 fps. Currently have 3 cams set-up. Front Door cam is a HT-8WMTDV Speco Dome 580TVL, cam2 is a Speco HEAT series bullet CVC-7705DNV, cam3 is a small silver bullet - unknown brand. Still tweaking them. Seem to get a great image on the dome camera at night with just the outside light on, it cannot utilize infrared but has excellent resolution. However, I need to find a good medium in the iris setting because its bringing in too much light during the day. Camera 2- Driveway- has Speco 470TVL. Day/Night camera. I have it mounted near motion activated floods to light up the area. However the IRs do very well in complete darkness. Camera 3 - I was told is a Speco but I'm not sure. It has no name on it. It is a small silver bullet with infrared. Just a temporary cam for now. See attached stills. Any recommendations/comments welcome!

Looks like I'm going to have to sell it. I hate to do that but all I need are 24/7 outdoor cameras. -
High Res Speco Dome very dark at night

It has a good picture during the day. I'll post a snap tomorrow. Would it be worth getting an infrared illuminator and keeping this speco cam? Or should should I get a speco intensifier cam? -
I just got the HT-8WMTDV Speco Dome camera. It seems to be a very good camera but I need to use it outside in low light. So far the picture is almost all black at night. Here is a link to the options the camera has, does anyone have any recommendations as far as adjustments for a better picture at night? http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/downloads/appcharts/8WMTDV0807.pdf Thanks

The HEAT camera by Speco is just a model name for one of their cameras. I'm not sure what you mean by high pressure sodium lighting but if the area is well lit then you don't need infrared on your cameras. However for you interior front and back door you may want an infrared camera, low-light cam, or motion lights since you said it is very dark. You will need enclosures or heaters if the cameras are not weatherproof or they will be in direct contact with rain, elements. I mentioned the varifocal just because I like to adjust the view. But if you know the area you want to cover a fixed lens would be okay. I beleive there are calculators online to determine the view, distance for certain lenses. As far as a fixed vs vari-focal, I'm not sure if there is any benefit from a fixed lens.

For the outdoor camera's I'd suggest Speco with infrared. Maybe one of the HEAT day/night cameras. I've been very happy with mine. Make sure it is varifocal so you can make adjustments. Will there be lights on inside during off-hours? If so maybe a Pelco indoor box camera with a close-up on the door for a good face shot. I'm not sure how many camera's you plan to set-up but you can get a good quality 4-8 channel dvr on ebay for fairly reasonable. Just make sure you get a lock box!

Hey would the CVC-6705 by ProVideo/speco be a good camera for outside front door w/ either a motion activated light(flood) or IR illuminator?
-
Thanks I am going to try that tonight.. I also adjusted the telephoto/wide aspect.

can someone tell me what electronic shutter control is and if i should have it on or off on my CVC-7705DNV also should I have back light compensation on or off? thanks

I got it on ebay for about 60 bucks.

when i unscrew the housing covering the internal parts of the camera (includes the glass sheild) i get a much better picture at night. Could a glare/reflection be causing the camera to not switch to night mode?
