  1. Thanks to this forum, the bare minimum DVR security is up and running! I can still expand 2 more cameras. But they will be visible and I don’t want the X to know anything at this time. Yes, this is an Anti-X-DVR/Security system. Lol! Motion detection controls has kept the cats from setting the recording off and yet no upright human will make it by it. Video is a bit grainy. I thought the Sanio camera would be the best. But it has lots of adjustments on it I have not touched. Too many for a newbie. Lol! The cameras have a UPS to power them. I still have to a UPS for the DVR. Between that and the "WatchDog", she should do well without me around. WIFI is it to get it working the way I want. A neighbor will share with me. Once that is done and this software starts FTPing the pictures out, then I guess there is no way even a knowledgeable person do anything about any thing this system records. The X is not that smart anyway. My biggest concern is that someone may be smart enough to simply walk off with the DVR. Lol! Again, thanks for all the help here. I love the internet. Except for when U-Tube has a video on how to bump key my new level II locks as well as the level III $100+ each ones I almost bought.

    24v A/C supply problem

Thanks for the info. I learned a little more. Do to this forum, I got it up and running this weekend.

    24v A/C supply problem

The camera has a ground and two power terminals. The power supply has a ground and two power terminals. The wiring diagram shows a ground and two power temrinals. So I don't understand why the ground would not have equal voltage to each phase? Unless it is not tied to the center of the windings. To be honest, I have only seen the power transformers to homes. They have the ground connected to the middle of the windings. This gives 240v phase to phase and 120v phase to ground. Are you telling me that this ground is to the house ground and the windings inside this 24v transformer has no ground tied to it? This would make the ground floating. The manual simply says 24v supply with no range.

    24v A/C supply problem

24v A/C supply problem I could have sworn the thing was working right before installing permanently. But the volt meter is showing about 8 volts difference on phase to ground. About 18volts on one phase to ground and 10 volts on the other. Phase to phase is about 28 volts. A little high for a 24volt power supply. I will have to re-read the installation instructions to see if the extra 4 volts is too much and also see if after about 55’ of 18 gauge copper it drops to 24 volts. I think, its been awhile, the Sanyo camera allows up to 30 volts. But what bothers me is that the neutral is not in the center. Phase to ground should be the same on both phases. The only way I know to get the neutral to shift is to loose the ground on the supply side, but it looks good visually. A floating neutral will defiantly burn up a 240V motor, but a camera? I don’t know. Any thoughts on this? I may have to go get another power supply and see how it does. A $500 camera Vs a $12 power supply is a no brainier. This little job is getting to be a pain. I may run a ground wire to a ground rod about 4 feet away and double ground this thing. It will have to be temporary as the special ground rod is to pull high frequency radio noise from the house wiring that the TIG welder produces to strike an arc. That is the last thing I need messing with video signals. Any other thoughts on this? Bain storm away. Thanks

    Audio/Video RF Modulator(s)

Thanks for the replies/information Kiwi I will look to see if the DVD/VCR has an auxiliary input since the TV is used up. I was surprised that the combination DVD/VCR required 2 inputs into the TV. I thought it was a bad unit till the directions were used. Lol! That would get 1 of the 2 camera’s working the easy way. Scorpion Wow, that's some links to review. Do I get a certificate if I study them all? It looks like it's been well thought out to handle this rather generic question. It does make me think that I should be thinking of the future. I can't see digital and/or HD right now, but who knows 5-10 years from know. Thanks and I’ll try and make some time to go threw the list. Being able to flip from TV to CCTV for 2 cameras is not a high priority, just a cool feature should it be fairly cheap and easy to do.

    Audio/Video RF Modulator(s)

Audio/Video RF Modulator(s) Search on these forums helped a good bit, but I want to make sure I got this right. I see 2 types of these devices. Cheap channel 3 & 4 ones and those that let you select the channel into the triple digits. I would like to be able to watch TV and see who is at the front door and the driveway. “Ifâ€

24v AC power affect a 12v DC camera? Sanyo power?

Thanks Scruit. I think I will roll the dice and see.

Don't worry about it. I use sarcasim too at times. I was shocked I got it at that price. Sometimes I throw a low bid on something for fun and/or to keep track of it. This was the first and only time that I actually won doing such. The rest of the cameras are no name, made in Tiawan. But they are all thick heavy well machined metal case ones wtih glass lenses. There is nothing plastic about them. I looked and looked and you see no names, P/Ns, S/Ns or anything on the boxes and cameras. Video looks pretty good. Way better than my 1 cheap plastic one. I have a Canon High8 that wore out the tape drive. The quality and low light leval abilities are great on it. It sees way better than the human eye. It looks a bit funny set at low light. I think it drops way back on the 30fps to boost the quality & brightess in trade for a jerky motion. I will have to research using Camcorders on this forum. I can think of no down side. Time will tell in the next week on how it performs. I did a test run with everything on the table. I'm just glad there are forums like this for issues not in the "101 how too" on the internet.

24v AC power affect a 12v DC camera? Sanyo power?

Warranty? It is brand new in the box off E-bay. It list about $450 and went for about $40. I don't think it will have a warranty. You do have a point even with sarcasm. I will check the box for a warranty card. I don’t normally bug one of our engineers on personal stuff, so that is why I went here first. But 3 cubes down is a principle EE engineer. He laughed and said 24v A/C 60hz is 24v A/C 60hz. He said they just want your money. His job is quality control on electrical utility distribution. That means getting 240/120v A/C 60hz to our outlets. That just leaves the question of running a 24v A/C line with a 12v DC line. The engineer does not work on sensitive electronic equipment to know much about 24v AC next to 12v DC. Unfortunately I have to go from one end of the house to the other 90 degrees to all the rafters. There is a gas main that “mayâ€
  10. I am installing 2 cameras with cable running about 40’ together. One has a 24v AC power supply and the other has 12v DC. Can the AC create problems on the DC circuit? I have seen articles say to keep it from the 120v and 240v AC lines. I just did not know if 24v AC could mess it up. That is about 5 times less poer. It has to go threw a wall together for about 9’, but after that I can with “moreâ€
