Hey folks, I just inspected a couple hundred vehicles that were fitted last year with "non mobile" video equipment, by a dealer who's now out of biz, that's failing rapidly (major loss for the customer, major!). We will need to replace the current products with "real" mobile equipment and I could use some advise from the other pros (I saw a few threads related, just hoping for some new info I guess) We need a minimum 2 ch (4's fine) DVR that's rated for mobile use (diesel vibration, potholes, temp extremes (below freezing to Midwest hot summers). They must be extremely durable with an excellent track record in a mobile environment (like police, fire, buses, taxis, street trucks etc). It should be able to get 15-30fps, 3 mos recording about 6 hrs per day, network card, 1 ch audio, have a good software for offloading video, they wish (prefer) to bring dedicated xp/pro laptop to vehicle-hook to network cable-login-offload video as needed (no wireless or GPS required - but if optional OK) We have to stay in a tight budget obviously (as it was already spent last year ) I have checked in to DM's, MW's, Everfocus, Advantech etc, just not sure which one is best yet for the most reasonable $$. (DM's would prob be the high-end and not affordable) Any thoughts would be great but please recommend only units you have experience with in the field, with multiple units - at this point I (they) cant just guess at it Thanks Jim

Hey all, we are specing a GV-800 8ch camera system and we will be providing a computer to house this. We also want to add a GPS tracking system (GeoTab) to the same computer. The reason for both is the fact we are trying to make a "work station" for the owner and don't wish to have them separate. I'm clear on the heavy resources needed for the Geovision side, and we are adding a 80GB Sata drive for the GPS part. Our system will consist of a Dell Intel Core 2 Duo E4600/2.4GHz 2M 800FSB 500Gb Sata HD for Geovision 80Gb Sata HD for GeoTab (GPS) 2GB Non-ECC 667MHz DDR2, 2X1GB 256MB ATI RADEON HD 2400 Pro Graphics w/DVI and TV out Windows XP PRO SP2 (w/Vista Business License) CD/RW etc. etc.etc. GeoTab uses a SQL database, .Net framework 1.1, Excel, and maybe 10Gb storage (on the separate drive) Questions... Do you see any issues with both on the same? We wish to use the "keylock" feature for the whole process, any issues? (or other good ideas) The owner and I will be the only ones with access (and we wish to keep it that way!!) I'm too small a co to have a lot of issues, and I want this to provide an excellent solution... Thanks for your insite... Jim

Just looking for possible issues I might encounter. I don't feel there should be any, but I haven't added any other programs to my DVR's besides AV and the like... I am a nube about SQL and it's usage of resources, etc. Thanks for the response Jim

Excellent trick, just one problem, if you use the same computer to program alarm panels (and I assume other devices with a internal clock that syncs off your download) it can reek havoc with the programming (especially Ademco/Honeywell Vista series panels (I am finding out the hard way ) But cool still (just not on my programmer ) Jim

Hey folks I'm trying to find a feature on some new DVR's were looking at, that I have on some of my multiplexers... What's it called?? When motion is detected that window comes up full screen for a predetermined time, or if 2 or more are triggered they scroll (full screen). I am looking at the Intellicam XLA series as a lower end product to offer and was told by my account person there that they do it. I cant find it specifically in the manuals. Jim

Most of them are similar in purpose and design, but name brands will probably last longer (readily available on most CCTV sites) I would get 1 1000ma(1A) for the 700ma one and 2 500ma for the others IMO Jim

I've had the same prob with storage buildings, seems their a magnet to lightning or the static buildup problem. I like to isolate from building too, and ground at the camera, entrance to main building and at the head end. The computer case ground can be checked too. Jim

Hay folks, I've been lurking here for a while, thought it was time to get involved. I am a small security company in northern Indiana. We provide burglary, fire, life safety, CCTV, PERS, networking, Telephone etc. I've been in the trade close to 30 years, but i'm old and forget alot, so it will nice to fall back on you guys every once and awhile I am currently looking at the Intellicam stuff to add as a lower level but good equipment package to our current offerings (I'll start a thread if I have questions) Let me know if you have any questions...
