  1. Wow Did not expect this from you Dave Yes, we had few talks and few conversation on the phone Yes, you ask ?? and I simply and honestly told you my opinion which you call "shot down with its failures" As a matter of fact I consider I provide you with lots of info What did I get ? what you forget to mention to everybody how you went around and got cameras from China and online stores. ---------------------------------------- I do talk directly to other in business they know everything what I am doing you want some nick names ? --------------------------------- By the way I am still waiting your "HELP" about Sage Actually Alex I still haven't purchased my cameras for the house, I've got a couple of cheap cameras in place, but I have no DVR and still need to get decent working cameras. It just seemed I asked and asked and never got a straight answer. Shooting down my suggestions is fine, but then give me some suggestions....
  2. Sawbones just so you know, I'm completely with you. I'd consider myself a "smart" customer, IT Based, just limited in CCTV knowledge. My comments regarding the cameras and lack of disclosure are accurate and are based on experience, specifically with ak357. Since I live in the same city, I contacted him regarding cameras, dvrs etc. While I was planning to do all my own prewiring, I was going to purchase all my equipment from him. It probably wouldn't have amounted to much, 15 cameras in total and a good dvr, as it's a residential install. I met with him a couple of times and spoke on the phone to discuss needs, cameras etc. It was clear he did not want to reveal a single product. Every camera I suggested (after much research) to him as a possibility was shot down with its failures. The professionals in this forum can blame it on wanting to protect their customer base, but then explain why, when your customer asks you about cameras, you would still withhold information? It just doesn't make sense. I've watched ak357s threads and his reluctance to reveal cameras...to other professionals. I don't call it professionalism, I call it insecurity.
  3. And what's the point of that? I agree completely. But for some reason he doesn't like to reveal the cameras he uses....
  4. knew he wouldn't name the make/model
  5. where do you get them from? Directly from China? thx
  6. the quality doesn't have to be great. I was about to buy a Panasonic Bl-C131a to give you an idea of level of camera, just wanting to know if there are others to consider in this price range. thx davey
  7. looks awesome to me - what type of camera and will it do PoE?
  8. both clips look excellent to me in fullscreen. Drum roll please......what make/model of camera is it? Also, does it do PoE?? david
  9. Hey guys, I was looking for a decent/affordable cam for the exterior of my home (front door) and stumbled upon the ACM-1231. I'm wondering though, at $500 a pop, is this too much camera for the area? Could I get away with something less expensive? Attached is the pic of where it would be mounted. thx

Front and rear doors are covered with IR cams, thanks. I don't have an IR barrier but I may look into that. The Axis M3011, while it looks like a nice cam, is flush ceiling mounted and quite a depth. I was looking for something relatively discrete which mount on the vertical surface of the inside corner. thx

Hey guys back looking for suggestions. I'm looking for a somewhat discrete cam that will go in the location in the picture. It doesn't have to be 'hidden' as it seems the only 'hidden' cams for this application come in a big ugly fake motion sensor. Possibly a smallish bullet or any other suggestions? thanks David

    new construction home, security design

well after 3 weeks of cabling by myself, a hospitalization due to pneumonia, and a lot of cabling and late nights the house is now totally wired for network, sound, automation, and yes, cctv cameras. There are 6 outside cameras and 12 inside cameras. All drops received RG59/18/2 and CAT6. Man that was a lot of work! I'm still getting over the sickness but I'll have to start looking into cameras at some point and seek the expert advice on these forums. Thanks for the feedback thus far. David

I'm resurrecting this thread as I'm about 2-3 weeks away from starting the cabling. I will be using the discrete cameras within the home (those that look like a motion sensor) and I'm wondering how you guys install the cabling? Do you put a sing LV box behind the motion sensor with a plate over it and a hole in the center? I'd like the install to be as clean as possible with only a small 1/2" diameter hole behind the sensor that the wires would come through. Just not sure how to get to those wires buried in the wall once the drywall is up. Suggestions? thanks!
  14. of course! I was thinking of gigabit! thx.
  15. I'm trying to determine whether using PoE 802.3af to power a ptz IP camera reduces the connection speed of the camera down to 10mb from 100mb? In other words, does using one of the twisted pairs for DC reduce the number of twisted pairs avail for data since 100mb needs all 4 pairs? Or does the standard simply piggyback DC and data down one of the twisted pairs? Thanks
