i agree with Wachhund, some DVR even have Watermarking and Encryption features , so it cannot be Edited. I would recommend you look for stand alone..its like appliance. When you plug , you play. No more complexities.

there are middle range and high range, be sure to check on these factors, 1. customer support 2. if you need video analytics or not 3. performance, video quality , fps etc

i agree, check what country it was made and the name of the company. be aware that they say they are manufacturers because some are not. i'll tell you how to know if they are OEM manufacturer or not.
