I can understand the compatibility issues that Geo or any other cards I have encountered have since it would be impractical to test all possible hardware configurations. But, once you have tested successfully with a certain configuration, I would think they would do regression testing on any future hardware of software releases. I have run into compatibility issues just moving from 5.4 to 6.1 with same hardware, but have also run into 5.4 working on one (for example) ASUS board, but not another ASUS model which is very similar, same chipset but maybe different bus speed. Some recommend nVidia mx440 cards, other ATI. Give me a sure fire configuration which is using a 3.0+ gHz cpu and I will stick with it until told otherwise.

Oh, and a couple other things...(hey, you asked). Intellicam had a slick little dvr. It basically looks like a 15" screen hanging on a wall with 8 bnc inputs and a couple outputs. In fact it appears to be a laptop with the screen turned around (no keypad though). I would like to find out who developed the capture device. It was a standalone system but they had IP cameras hooked up to it. I asked them why they are using IP cameras to promote a DVR and the explanation was a bit of douple-speak, in other words, no reason other than to push two products. Which leads to this question. They, along with other vendors had IP cams without any storage. I thought that was one of the perks for IP's over standard cams with DVR. Let the camera be server and recorder, and retrievals can be requested from any PC. The DVR folks were pushing the "not secure" of IPs to remain with DVRs. IP folks claimed DVRs were Dead ..... Didnt see any VCR folks claiming anything, nor did I see some, but know there are plenty of people out there using them and still selling them, once again foiling any attempt by any of these vendors that there is a total solution.

Spent two days there also. Surveillance equipment was definitely the theme! .... Very little access control or alarm stuff. Alot of SOS at the smaller booths. As FredB stated the latest and greatest thing seemed to be "Intelligent" cameras also a big push on IP cams although most systems were hybrids. Honeywell had an interesting IP system. 4 camera that plugged into small box which did all the grunt work before passing on to PC via wireless router. Kind of an external capture card with some memory and the ability to hook up both IP and standard cameras. Passes the encoded video over to PC for display, recording, etc... residential or small business system which also integrated into an existing alarm system. There was a couple accessory type firms which had some really great housings and different type mounts for just about any application. Pelco, of course had the biggest display, pushing Optic fiber, intelligent cams / software, and hybrid systems integrating IP into current configurations. Good show, but didnt see anything not currently available on the market in some capacity.

Is there a source where I can get the latest list of compatible devices with geovision cards... I just got back from ISC and didnt see them there.... dam!

I believe the remote system has to be running XP Professional. HE has an add on or must use terminal services.

This depends on how you want it to store the video. If you are looking for redundancy, ( same video to both drives simultaneously )you will need a RAID controller. Can't you just use the Geo Backup Utility? It allows the selection of date, time and camera(s). And, what about watermark, I have seen it reduced using any other type of copy, regardless of media it is copied too. brevardCam www.brevardsurveillance.com

PC = Upgradable

Anyone familiar with this firm and / or product. They sent me a "complimentary card" for testing purposes. I cannot get it working properly, although some features work. I told them my results now they want the card sent back at my expense to AUSTRAILIA. First of all, I put quite some time into testing second, it isnt worth anything to me anyway thirdly, why should I pay to send back a piece of junk they gave me and FOURTH ....anything received within the US mail that was not ordered, does not have to be returned. Is this a real firm, a scam.... the saleman said the card (8 cam) went for 90 us dollars (kinda speaks for itself) .... the manager of the company called me and told me they sold for 450.00 ... Compatibiiity issues change depending on who you talk to with the company. I think they are attempting to intimidate me into buying this piece of crap.

More professionally stated? as in .. "Check out the I-VIEW line of DVR cards, much more stable than GEOCRAP."

I couldnt believe someone is actually pushing that piece of ****. To intentionally invite to their website and demo is basically suicide for the product. ... still pushing the simpsons and janpanese comics. Had I known, it would have been funny. Seriously looking for information, just pisses me off. Thanks for getting back to me with your outlook and info.,... Think I will back up and as all if they have found anything bettter than geovision....although satisfied with their products, after 4 years i hate to have only on capture egg in my basket.

Thanks for response.... I agree about the compatability issues ... The only card I have used so far with the least amount of problems is GeoVision. The Viewmax people, after the fact told me it has to be a p4, asus board and ATI graphics... Now GeoVision is by no means compatable with everything, particually AMD and SiS chips but does give one a little more flexability in designing a system. BrevardCam www.brevardsecurity.com

I have bought several of the newer color (day/night) cameras now which include several name brands. There seems to be a strange anomaly with the color green. Particuliarly viewing trees, they seem to be "smeared" I have experienced this on all machines and the only common denominator is that all machined use geovision cards. But this does not occur with other type cameras. I know its not just me, because i get complaints from customers about it. anyone else seen this? BSS,LLC www.brevardsecurity.com

Where did you find a 5 watt xmitter? ..... hell, best I have found is 1000mw and I dont think the FCC likes that one too much

Not sure if I mentioned but they are all bullets....I rarely sell bullets since I rarely do residential and can normally convice commercial owner to go BIG for sake of deterant. Hi all, This one caught me off guard and I am hoping someone can save me some research. Home office has 3 computer on regular Linksys 4 port (not wireless). I added a DVR and configured as usual. Come to find out, they are using AOL for ISP which requires log on (screen name, pass). I attempted to talk them into dumping AOL and use RR since they have Broadband, but no luck...lol.. Question: Can I hook DVR up so it bypasses the AOL crap, or better put, how the hell do I get around this log on crap!....all their screen names available are used. Plus, if power fail occurs, it needs to get back on. Also, do i need to load the AOL software (please god no, say no)? Thanks from BrevardCam
