    New CCTV information website

He has some good info, although a lot of it is opion made out to be fact. But, it is also an excellent source for info if you can read over the self-promote. Hell, he put a lot of work into site, compared to many I have been too, guess he's entitled to push his stuff.... Bcam

    frame rates

If not already stated, consider a card with "Smart" Frame Rate option (used with motion detect). This is a nice feature and allows a lot of applications to use a lower fps card. This feature will divert system resourses so as to increase the frame rate of the camera(s) detecting motion, so effectively a 30 fps card divided up by 4 cameras could have one camera processing at 25 fps and the other 3 at 1 fps until motion detect is diverted or max record time exceeded. Sorry if repeated anyones post

    Weatherproof Ceiling Mount Housing

I would think it depends on the on the CCD .. if you put a 1/3 ccd in either with the correct optics (which I believe are available), same... thats why the traditional style cameras are getting so small... some not much longer than a bullet. I am interested in this too for an upcoming project .... i will let you know if I see anything.... and visa versa....

    Geovision or H-series card?

There's a GeoVision USA??? Do they have a website and english speaking reps? Where is this place? ..... who what where ..... I've been test the new 6.0 and have had a few crashes, on same machine that has never had a problem with previous versions ..... Can't tell what is causing but probably a video card conflict.... anyone else have any anomalies with 6.0 bCam

Which DVR has the best features?

I think that this technology is so new and changing daily, that the "Best in Show" will change just as often. Is there a Card out there when the vendor also supplies the Source Code so it can be customized (course this could be a dangerous marketing practice) , but it would be nice to add feature depending on customer and leave the unused crap out. bCam

    Ebay

I use the rule of thumb being .... don't by anything from Hong Kong... All those starting price of .99 are just with a 65.00 shipping fee. There seems to be so many cards out there now, most useless, that anything other than the proven name brands available and verified by a professional CCTV person is a gamble to say the least. When popping 300 - 400 for a basic card, it can get expensive real quick. I stick with GeoVision, mainly cause they work, easy to install and have never had a problem. The new 6.0 software gives a few nice features. I am sure there are plenty of other good ones, or better, but I cant see dropping that kind of money to test one. I am looking for another alternative. I wish someone would come out with a 1/2 card!!!! Could really sell some mobile and portable models ... there is a market. I buy ol junk like old cameras and books from ebay.... but its understood that its OLD Junk! bCam...

Whats the BEST Day/Night Fixed Dome?

Depends on application, environment, etc.... That don't help but we sell a few online, all name brand, and install several other types. I agree with you about the installation. Not just the Sanyo, but most can be a pain. But I think it seems that way because I don't install anywhere as many domes as bullets or the traditional style. Check us out : http://watch24seven.com We are just adding the domes and traditional, only offering mainly bullet type online (we install any type). Check us out, or contact for info on other Cams.

    Geovision or H-series card?

Have had 6.0 loaded and running on test machine for 2 weeks without incident. Although, I have not tried all the features, it was a nice easy upgrade. Just make sure you leave 5.x on there prior to upgrading since the 6.0 package does not include all the dll's needed. Just install over the old release. Popup feature is nice, and I believe they had some logging options. The system log is real lame in previous releases and had to write my own, so I could see what the user was doing prior to a problem or whos been using system remotely. I'm still looking for a second option in DVR cards (not systems) though. I don't like being tied to only one type but have yet to find another card with the reliability and features Geo has, and still be cost effective.
  10. New job, a storage facility spread out over several acreas.... May have to go wireless (due to other utilities, roads, etc..) with up to 12 of them. I almost always have a couple cameras wireless in a 8 - 16 camera installation, but 12! Is there a better way than to have to buy 12 transmitters / receiver pairs... Cant some of these signals be combined (multiplexed) then transmitted?... Plus I have to go about 1500 ft. ..... not many obsticles, pretty much line of sight. Suggestions please.....
  11. I thought you were referring to setting up the cameras on a lan line then connecting the LAN to DVR via wireless (linksys type) connection. The traditional, or way I have been doing it, ie... xmit / rec pair per camera, bandwidth is not an issue. I would think it would be when using LAN or IP server devices. Although, you got me thinking about that one....... I bet there is a cost effective way to use IP cams and then just view them remotely from the main office. thanks
  12. Would this provide the bandwidth needed for surveillance using 12 cams. Also, the ip cams are still priced too high. thanks
  13. Quality & Service is #1. If it breaks, they want it fixed now...which is completely understandable. I've won contracts because of references commenting on our service, and not because we were the lowest bidder.

    Geovision or H-series card?

I may be way off-base here.... Maybe there are numerous "H" cards.. Not a very imaginative title.... I bought an "H-Series" card, it came with some documentation with the only ID of DVR2400. Going with that, I got to Hyperlabs, where, in my case anyway, they are the same. What release software do you have for the H?

    Geovision or H-series card?

Actually, these cards are produced by a firm called Huperlabs .. http://www.huperlab.com/products02_e.htm Although the post seems more of an advertisement than a question, the "H" card is available under several names since it is normally drop-shipped. I've tried them, and didnt seem to find any hardward problems, but, the software is not as robust as Geovisions, and still has problems (such as video attribute settings) that are not documented or made aware of to the user. Having used both, Geovision is by far worth the extra money.
