Advice on acti 7411
3RDIGLBL replied to swampguinnie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hello! May I know more about the problems you mentioned? I have a ACM-7411 here and I upgraded from 3.10.22 to 3.11.11 and in both cases the camera could found by both IP-Utility and the NVR ActiveSetup. Could the reason of not finding the camera is that you tried to access the camera by NVR immediately after firmware upgrade? Sometimes it may take up to 30 seconds to restart completely after upgrade and during that time the NVR will not be able to retrieve camera information from that device. Can you please tell us about the LED problem you mentioned? I would like to learn about this matter and see where the problem is an if any enhancement is needed. Thanks a lot!! Yes the Avermedia EH 5216+ will fail to find the ACM-7411 camera if it has FW 3.11.11 on it. I have 15 of the 7411 cameras and the first three I tried failed when trying to locate the camera from the EH 5216. I switched all cameras to 3.10.22 and they were found immediately. It is not the 30 seconds where the problem is. Like I stated I have 15 and all work fine with 3.10 but the first three I tried with 3.11 do not work. No problem with LED's. I was just wondering if they can be switched off or if others find them to be very bright at night. I find the LED's very bright and depending on how the cover is mounted the LED's will cause the camera to glow at night when looking up at it on the side of a building. I checked with our ISV integration engineer about this issue. You are right, there is a compatibility issue with 3.11.11, which affects Avermedia, Nuuo, Qnap, Exacq, and perhaps some other ISVs. There was a quick follow-up firmware version released, 3.11.13 which addressed this issue. Please try the latest 3.11.13 version. Thanks for the update. I will download this right away as I'll be at my customers tomorrow. I'll test it then. -

How to block/disable camera from viewing me?
3RDIGLBL replied to SaturnR's topic in Security Cameras
May be an expensive feat but how about trees. Maybe like fur, spruce, pine. Not sure of your location but a full tree that stays full all year round. Will add beauty to the yard and hopefully some privacy. I don't know if this possible as I don't know how much space you have to play with. I'm not talking of small trees but I'm speaking of grown trees. Not sure of code requirements because here a tree can not be planted within 6 feet of the property line. They also have very fast growing hybrid trees that grow many feet in a year but this is not a quick solution and probably not the best choice. Keep in mind he may read this very forum as well so anything mentioned here may get directly to him. A lot of smart folks on here and I would recommend anyone who may have a useful suggestion to PM this person in case this neighbor monitors the forum and will know what is happening. Tree's are not very hightech Good luck. It must really stink being in this situation. -
time.microsoft.com Is NTP the same as SNTP? I think it is but the S is for Simple Network Time Protocol. I think it is all synonymous but I could be wrong. I don't set my cameras if they do have the option but I do setup the DVR with the SNTP server. If there is no network connection I set the time per my cellphone and hold my breath that the DVR can keep an accurate time. I don't have much choice otherwise. LOL!

You know....I am not one who appreciates the spoon fed part. Being an electronic engineer by trade and by education I am not a spoon fed individual. But I do know when the manure is getting deeper and it's time to pull back. It's obvious there doesn't seem to be a solid answer and I see this when a simple comment (I am NOT going back to quote myself or anyone else so don't ask!) is made and another whole new topic can be made from the simple answer. There is obviously no simple answer here and I think it will take a book to be written to get the true technical answer. Fine I would read the book because I want to know the true scientific answer as well. There is no science here just some speculation, here say (from me included) some technical info which may or may not be relevent to the original posters questions. I was simply trying to call a truce and that doesn't seem simple to do either...........................GEES! So if you are insinuating that I may prefer being spoon fed then you have just inadvertantly insulted the hell out of me................... ARGH

I just got around to reading this. This is a great story scorpion and I read every word of it and I smiled and grinned because I know a couple of people who are the same darn way. I drive them nuts when I order a fry at McD and I eat the fries while holding the container to my mouth. I mean I'm driving so I keep one hand on the wheel and the other holding the container. How else to eat them.....put them in the cup holder I guess but I always drop them on the floor as I try to keep my eyes on the road while trying to see where the fries are in the container at the same time LOL!!!! I do it on purpose all the time and you know they have more colds and allergies than I do.....I could start a whole topic of why I think anti-bacterial products are a bunch of crock.....why don't we just kill our immune system instead of increasing it's resistance. LOL!!!!I drive them all nuts....Just made me smile when I read this.

That statement is pretty funny considering you went on to discuss it, then posted another response! Darn there I go again.....ok this is the last one

And if it calls for either then use either. Best, Christopher Yes! Thank You

What make and model are the cams you are speaking of? Mini domes are a dime a dozen and some have inter-changable lenses, some do not, some are fixed and some are varifocal. The camera may have a built in IR but for the most part this has nothing to do with the lens (but to clarify before someone chimes in........yes there are lenses made specifically for D/N cameras) but the camera may be a true D/N with a mechanical ir filter but this is not built into the lens itself. You see.....your question really can't be answered without more information.

You know this discussion has been twisted in so many different directions it's not worth the discussion anymore. If it calls for 1/3" just use a 1/3" if it calls for 1/2" then use 1/2" DONE!
-
Guess they were all wrong at my Arecont training then. They stated what I mentioned so in my eyes this is unresolved. The said the larger pixel size would gather more light when using a 1/2" lens on a 1/3" sensor. They said it was a better choice to use a 1/2" lens but that it throws off the mm rating because of the size difference. Unless I slept through the small print statement of that discussion then that is what I understood. I figure they know what they are talking about and then again I know a lot of you know what you are talking about as well. I'll stick with what is speced and leave the debate to the experts.

Avermedia or Everfocus? Which is one of these is better?
3RDIGLBL replied to ghostrider2142's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Just installed two of the EH5216+ units this past week. Nice economically priced hybrid system. I have many complaints but hey a hybrid embedded system economically priced makes the complaints a little easier to overlook Don't expect lot's of bells and whistles if you decide to use IP cams. Can you provide us with a brief description of how you plan to use these units. It may be easier if we knew how many cams, what type of cams (IP, Megapixel or analog). Tough to pinpoint pro's or con's when we are not sure of the actual application. Sorry as I know you asked for experience with the Everfocus and I don't have the experience. Remote access with Aver is average. I've seen better and I've seen worse. It's not an H.264 stream and the quality is definitely deminished over the network I find. I do not find the clarity issue with it TOMCCT mentioned but maybe I didn't look at it good enough. I thought the quality was good but then again I have only used it it with 1.3MP cams and not analog. -
From my understanding you will get a better result using a lens for a 1/2" chip on a 1/3" chip simply because more light is allowed to pass onto the sensor. Because it is larger and speced for use on a 1/2" sensor a 4mm 1/2" lens will not be a 4mm lens when used on a 1/3" sensor. Not sure of the actual calculation when doing this is. A benefits to using a larger lens are less image distortion around the edges of the picture. You tend to have a more even focus because you get more of the center of the lens image onto the sensor and the center is where typically the best focus is and then it falls more out of focus the further to the edge of the lens you get. Whether or not the price difference is worth the benefits is up for debate I personally stick with what is speced for simply the reason of simplicity.

Free Power over Ethernet solution for IP Camera
3RDIGLBL replied to securitysupplies's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
POE is great there is no question or debate about it but when it comes to outside cold temp installs there are not too many options available yet. I've seen some POE heated enclosures available and I'll have to take one of those in house to test out. Probably the next iteration of POE standard released will be a higher current.... -
Free Power over Ethernet solution for IP Camera
3RDIGLBL replied to securitysupplies's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Believe it or not I've installed 24Vac over the two unused pair of a cat 5 cable to power a heated enclosure and then used a 24vac to 12vdc regulator to power the Arecont camera on the inside. Got 5 of these cameras setup and they've been running 7 months so far. We'll see how well it continues running in the dead of winter. Customer knew of the risks and so far everything is running well. If anything this is one of those experiments that mama told you to never do LOL! Longest run is about 75 or so and I was very surprised to see this working as well as it has. -
I would say that supports more IP cameras than any other NVR but check their website for a list of supported cams for the NVR you are interested in. You can use analog cameras with IP cameras using their Hybrid cards. The 7000 series cards are true D1 and would their high end. You can convert when you wish. I had IP at a customers and upgraded them with a hybrid card so I can add analog cameras. You will need IP licenses and with the new version of software the license key is entered into the software so there is no need for a dongle. Their embedded mini's are IP only but make sure you review the list of supported IP cams to be sure the cameras you plan to use are supported. Hope this helps.

Wondering if others would find it to be of value to add Nuuo as a sub-forum. Nuuo seems to be getting rather popular and finding a good source for support is not as easy as coming to this forum I'd like to recommend adding Nuuo along side GV and Avermedia. Not sure if that is possible but I thought I'd throw my 2c in here. There is some mention of Nuuo scattered around in here but not centralized anyplace.

Has anyone used the feature in the EH series DVR that enables the DVR to use the IP Camera's built in motion detection? I have these ACM-7411 cameras and enabled motion detection but can't figure out how to use the feature in the EH-5216 that allow me to Use IP Camera Motion Detection. I find the DVR motion detection to not be very good at all. At night it just records all night long you must lower the sensitivity so low that it is pretty near useless for actual object movement. Though I would give the camera a shot at deciding it to see if it is any better.

Designing an IP CCTV system with 20-30 cameras
3RDIGLBL replied to koolmer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you're going MP then chances are it will be progressive scan. Just make sure it is and this will help reduce any possible motion blur although night time motion blur is a different story in which progressive scan will not help you with a slow shutter speed. -
Got a few of these in house recently. Setting up the Day Light Savings on these is a strange endeavor. This is my first DVR where the DST is a specific date. For the life of me I can not imagine that I have to go to each and every customer every year to change the DST date. Typically you set up in the DVR that it is the 2nd Sunday of March at 2am and ends the 1st Sunday of November at 2am. This DVR wants the specific date so what happens when next year when the date is different? Anyone know anything about this? I contacted Avermedia yesterday and they said this is how it is but they could not answer me as to what happens next year. I told them if I have to go to each and every customer to change a DST date that I would be sending them the service call bill. They are supposed to get back to me about this....when?? I do not know.

Advice on acti 7411
3RDIGLBL replied to swampguinnie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Wanted to acknowledge an issue with the Avermedia EH series Hybrid and 11.11 firmware. I could not get the 7411 to be found by the NVR with 11.11 but if I downgraded to the .10 version of software it worked just fine. I haven't figured out how to get the motion detection working with the ACM-7411 camera. I played with it for a little while today but had no luck. Has anyone found the bright red LED's a problem? They seem aweful bright and I am assuming that the clear dome may give away the camera during the night. I haven't really tested it in an outdoor environment yet but did notice how bright they are. -
I got an answer today. It appears in the infinite wisdom of some decision makers that I would have to go to each and every system that has day light savings time set to reset it each and every year because that is how it is coded in the firmware. Instead of setting it like every other DVR I've used by which day, month and time each year Avermedia decided to have the user setup a specific date which means that date changes every year................. They did, however, make a note of the issue and requested a fix for this. Hopefully this gets acknowledged by the people who make decisions and it gets fixed soon.

Designing an IP CCTV system with 20-30 cameras
3RDIGLBL replied to koolmer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You will get less blooming with a CMOS sensor than CCD. CMOS has come a long way which why you see all these high end guys using them. Do some research between the two sensor types and you will be more informed as too why they are chosen.....another factor is they do not require as much power hense a better choice for POE applications. I love Arecont, although due to cost limitations for my latest project I went with 15 ACTi cams. All CMOS. -
Enclosure / Camera for -40 Celsius (-40 F) temperature
3RDIGLBL replied to melisandeneowald's topic in Security Cameras
Sorry for not replying. I've been traveling for a week and have not logged on the forum during that time. All my installs use enclosures with the exception of a few bullet cams. I have some really cheap bullet cams that operated just fine in the cold. I have not had a power loss, yet, long enough to cause a camera failure because it was too cold. But it really will depend on the camera. What happens is it's the electronics that get too cold to start. The electrical characteristics in the components change when they are subjected to really cold environments. Certain components depend on timing and voltage levels in order to operate properly so when it is really cold the dynamics change. With that being said the camera will turn on when it reaches a certain temperature governed by the design of the camera. Manufacturers know this but because of tolerance levels most manufactures play it safe with the low temp rating even though the camera will work just fine lower. I can't comment specifically around the life time effects on the camera because I think it really depends on the manufacturer. As you are seeing now. If you want a dedicated camera that is speced to go down to the extreme temperatures you are looking for then you will pay for it. Me on the other hand learned through trying it out. I put cameras on the outside of my office and I keep swapping them out to test each of there tolerance levels. What I found is most will run just fine at colder temps than what they are speced to. Good Luck.
