  1. Thanks ando OK then we have concluded that POE may not be the right choice here due to the extreme environmental temperatures and the high risk of a POE switch not being able to handle the load. Is there a PDU than can handle the job? I have no issue with running 18/2 to each camera. Been doing it for years with Siamese cable. Just need to find a PDU that can handle the load.
  2. Thanks ando. From what I can see in the specs it appears that the heater/blower are 12VDC and not POE. Can you confirm that the heater and blower will operate off the POE? My distributor says it will not but they don't always know these things accurately. I have to run power to the enclosures anyhow for the internal ethernet switch and the POE for the wireless antenna. I'm going for an L-Com enclosure that is NEMA 3R and has power receptacles built into the enclosure. It's made specifically for wireless setups. I will not have to go far to plug the camera power supplies in. The big question I have in my first post is for one site there will not be any wireless. There is only one building and 5 cameras. Four of the cameras will be outside and one inside. I am looking for a PDU that can deliver the required power for those outside cameras without me having to plug in 5 separate power supplies. If I can use a POE switch to power the heater/blower then that will be an option but I'm not seeing that I can do that. Thanks.
  3. Ya from what I was told by the distributor the camera will operate off the 12VDC. So in otherwords 12VDC can operate the camera, heater/blower. I did not know about the power supply that came with the camera. I will have to look into that more. Would you happen to have a picture of the the PS that comes with it? Wonder how much room it takes? I am putting outdoor enclosures and these power supplies need to go in the enclosures along with a switch and POE for a wireless antenna.
  4. LOL! Thought So. So now back to my original question. What kind of PDU could I use to power these cams? I can't imagine plugging in so many single power supplies. What size is the power supply that comes with the camera? I can't find info on it. Thanks Wireguys for your help. I checked out Altronix and Arm but can't seem to locate the right PDU. I guess I could double up on an output. I could get a 16 camera power supply and double up on the outputs of a 1amp per channel supply to get the required current per camera? I haven't had to do anything like that before but could it work?
  5. Really? Only when powering while it's cold? These cameras will be operating in a cold environment. Are you saying that no heater will be needed when it is -40F outside? The cameras also come with a DC power supply? I was not aware of that either. As you can see I've never bought these cams before so this is a first for me.
  6. Yes definitely an obvious difference. Thanks for sharing your experience and it's awesome that you were able to figure it out.
  7. What did you figure out? It may help someone else on the forums. Thanks
  8. BUMP No one of the Avermedia folks on here have had experience with the EH Hybrid models. I spoke to a rep last night for an hour and he gave me a demo of the IP software. Not a terrible interface. They make a lot of claims of being OEM for a few large MFG and there price is much lower and bla bla bla. I personally don't have any experience with them so I'm not sure if I should take everything with a grain of salt. The EH5216P has a nice price. Supposedly does not have the same bandwidth limitations as the NUUO BUT.................he said if I planned to load up the 16 then I may want to go with a more powerful unit. ARGH! It's like buying a car that should go 65MPH with no problem but the small print says don't do it for it long because you might blow the engine!!!! Why make a system that supports 16 cameras but then say don't put all 16 cameras because it may choke..............duhhhhhhh
  9. I always install a UPS with every system I install. I got tired of lockups from time to time because of inconsistant power issues. For me it's pretty much non-negotiable for both residential and commercial. A 350VA UPS is inexpensive and meets the needs of most small installs. A larger install will require 550VA and I've gone higher than that all depending on the size of install.

    4 channel NUUO miniNVR

Here I go re-opening old wounds! You know I was thinking of using this device as you can see by all the posts I talk about it. But I have been so hesitant about going this route. Looks like the 4 channel and the 8 channel would do just fine for lets say 4 or 8 ACTi 1.3mp cameras. I would probably be very satisified since it's a standalone and probably very reliable. I like the RAID capability and the functionality. But where I lose interest is in the 16 channel model. My customer would need one 8 channel and one 16 channel system. They would be sorely disappointed with the 16 channel performance I'm afraid. For the 16 channel I actually need 9 cameras. With 9 cameras I'm looking at a minimum of 27Mbps. The little mini will choke. I can decrease my requirements and probably live with a lower FPS to fall within the limits of the NVR but no way can this machine make someone happy with populating all 16 channels. Anyone actually install and load up a 16 channel mini? What is your experience with it? I think it has a lot of potential but it's not really ready for primetime just yet IMHO. You see my customer wants a headless unit and just wants net access so this was perfect and the price was right. But now I'm trying to figure out what the real cost is!?!?
  11. Got word back that it has the C (UL) US certification so I'm good to go with that certification. I learned a lot today in term of Canada electrical safety requirements So for people's information. Electrical Equipment needs to follow canadian guidelines for electrical safety. Ontario requirements are here: http://www.esasafe.com/GeneralPublic/epa_002B.php?s=19 New Brunswick requirements are here (although the same stuff): http://www.gnb.ca/0276/safety/english/Bulletins/165-3-8-e.pdf Hope this is helpful information.
  12. I didn't think I would have such a hard time getting this answered from suppliers but it has been two days and I haven't got it yet. Can I install a NUUO Mini in Canada? The device needs to be CSA approved. Seems to be a hard question to get answered. Thanks
  13. Not sure if this helps you. Doesn't say anything about MINI that I can see at a quick glance. You may have to get a login to view the page. http://www.nuuo.com/faq.php?node=268

    best day night camera

I second that. Have installed a few intensifiers and although you see the area well in low light forget about identifying anything moving faster than snail pace.

    melted/burned coax cable

I personally have never seen this. I mean video voltage is so small over coax. Have you disconnected the coax at both end and ohmed out the cable? Not knowing how the cable is run I'm wondering if it is pinched somewhere or being electrically shorted with power somehow. First this I would try is disconnect the coax at both ends and test for voltage on the cable (obviously there should not be any) then I would ohm it out and check for shorts. Others might have a suggestion but thats where I would start. Unless the DVR card is defective and somehow causing this on that one channel. Although if the initial camera was bad and internally shorted it could of damaged the DVR card not knowing if the card had any internal protection.
  16. Don't believe this feature is available as of yet. I've been waiting for this as well. At this time it is only available for some Windows mobile devices but supposedly they are working on Blackberry and iPhone. Any NUUO reps still around who can comment on this??
  17. I think I'm all set with this cam. I put it in a window of my house to over look work going on in a gravel pit behind my house and the picture is really good. I just may have been way to close for that camera at the office. At a distance the picture is really good and it's going through a window. I have the FPS set to 4 at the moment and it's good. The latency is decent also and appears much better now that the object is not directly in front of it, LOL Thanks for the help.
  18. I have an opportunity from one of my suppliers to purchase one at a discounted demo price so I think I'll take advantage of that just to try one out. It's not a huge discount off the normal but still enticing to give it a try. I just have my reservations about a remote only system but I may be wrong and I'm sure it has it's place.
  19. Thanks wire guys. Can you drop a tip for optimal performace with these 4200 cube cams? I messed with this for a good part of an hour this afternoon and I'm ready to junk it LOL! I tried setting a constant bit rate and variable and setting to various in between settings. Obviously the best is the highest one but when I start to reduce the bit rate the picture obviously becomes more and more blocky and the network performace only moderately gets better. I set it to 640x480 resolution and the picture just is not that great. The picture is the best obviously when everything is set to there highest but the latency is absolutely horrendous. It's hooked through a 10/100 switch and my laptop is running wirelessly on the same network. To get the switch out of the picture I plugged it into the wireless router also and the performace is still bad. Can't believe the camera is normally this bad otherwise I would see more complaints I think. Thankfully I didn't pay for the thing! I won it at a tradeshow last year and never really got around to messin with the thing. Maybe theres a reason why it was a give-a-way!
  20. Well if mine is defective I would like to see a non-defective one. I can see latency over a remote connection but when I'm sitting on the same switch and logged directly into the camera there is no excuse. Like I said. I wave my hand and I have time to lower it back onto my bench before I see it on the display. When I do see it on the display it's so blurry you can't tell what it is. Same with walking by at a fast pace. Maybe I have a bad switch, maybe a bad camera........either way as much as I like a $300 IP camera if it doesn't work as intended by the device what is the use I'd rather spend $700 and get something that functions then $300 and be completely dissatisfied. LOL! I'm still quoting out ACTi cams just not these cubes. note:The comments above are the opinions of the poster and do not necessarily represent the true functionality of the device in question due to a number of external factors that could be interfering with that device....................In other words this could all be self inflicted USER ERROR, LOL!!
  21. OH nice so they have support for an Axis encoder. For me it was a bit of a surprise. I unknowingly priced out an 8 channel with a monitor and stuff, and stupid me not even digging deeper into the physical piece of the NVR just realized that it is not capable of connecting a monitor. Looks like no DVD either just USB although that seems to be pretty common now anyhow.
  22. I'm not impressed with the ACM-4200 although I know it is a low cost megapixel and I can see why. I connect directly to mine and it is still slow. If I use a lower quality level it speeds things up but the picture quality drastically goes down hill. I could nver find a happy medium with this camera so I never show it and it sits on my shelf. Thanks for sharing the settings but if one were to want this camera in a low light as well as a day light environment they would have to go into the settings and make the configuration change everyday? Is there just one setting where the customer could be happy with this camera? I mean wave a hand in front of this thing and go grab dinner and by the time you get back you will see it in the monitor! Well I exagerate a little but you know what I mean LOL Thanks
  23. Anyone know of a company which makes a line of cameras that are both IP megapixel and Analog which look the same? Gees, sucks to quote out a Hybrid solution and the customer has different looking cameras installed because some are megapixel and some are analog. Would be nice to have a line of cameras which have both and are the same body style. Thanks

IP Cam and Analog Camera w/ same body style

All cameras will be inside. There're going into a new pharmacy. They want both cams and access which we'll be doing both. These enclosures look a little large but I'll take a look at them, thanks for the lead. I'm not a big pelco fan but since it's just the enclosures I could compromise Might be a good alternative to domes cams.
