I have been messing with my GV card for a few days now and really starting to get the hang of it but one thing I have not figured out is how to increase the streaming resolution. It streams in 320x240 and when I try to change the resolution my only option is 320x240. How do I go about getting a higher res stream? My recorded video is 720x480. Thank You

Thank you, they appear to have a neat system but limited on what I could find for more info so I have sent them an email to have someone contact me. Thanks for the link.

Well he suggested the fuel pump. The fuel pump is only one part of the project. I don't want one system for the fuel and another for the door access. I need a full rounded system easy to navigate for the customer. I do hear you about service calls, however, where I live people are cheap to begin with so I'm lucky to even find someone interested in access control so the easier I can make it the more word will get around about it. Thanks

I've looked through the links you folks have left me but the only thing I see as an issue is my customer is not a very tech savy person. I need a really easy to use interface where he can easily look at the access logs and add and remove employees. What will happen with the solutions here is that I will get calls whenever he wants to do anything with it because he will get confused. The only solutions I think there are is going with a PC based access control system? Any experiences with easy to navigate access controls systems? Thanks

I got a GV 1240 and I'm running the 8.2 software that came with it. I periodically lose the webserver functionality almost like it gets locked up and stops working yet I can't stop it. This morning I power up my system because it powered off last night due to power failure. It seemed to come up fine and it showed WEB and CCS on the right hand side but I could not log into it. I went to the web server option under the network settings and tried to de-select the web server but it would not turn off. I could not stop it at all. I even went into configuration and removed the check mark for the webserver and saved the settings. Yet it was still showing WEB CCS I could not stop the service. I closed the application and restarted it and it still would not stop I had to reboot my computer in order to stop the service. It has hung twice on me like this in two days and I'm not sure what is causing it. Right now it is working just fine and I can log in remotely without issue but I'm sure it will happen again where it will hang. I have a Intel Dual Core Gigabyte self build Computer with 2G of memory. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I realized that I failed to mention my system is running XP. It's run a full day so far with no hickup. I had to power the system off last night for a couple days due to construction in our office but I will have it backup and running shortly. Thanks for the replies. When it happens again I will list what I tried to do before rebooting. Sounds like you are having the same issue I am though with the exception of two separate operating systems.

Thanks for the reply and ideas. I'm going to check out Optex I appreciate that. As far as turning the beams of and on I figured I would just setup a schedule of when to use the alarm within the DVR. That's the idea anyhow. Using a switch is a great idea as well I guess I could put it in somekind of weatherproof lockbox.

I am knew to Geovision and currently have an 8 channel 240fps card to play around with. I unfortunately do not currently have internet at our new office until next week sometime so I have not been able to remotely mess with it. I'm not really sure how to set it up and I'm now seeing that there appears to be a number of ports needed to be forwarded... Anyhow. I would like to add PTZ and alarm inputs. What additional hardware do I need to do this? GV has a lot of options so I'm a bit overwhelmed until I get to really know this hardware. Thanks
-
Thanks Andy, Yes my card is using the 8.2 software currently. I only need one input right now so I think James' suggestion would be ok but it is great knowing I have the expansion option.

Thanks for the reply ezCCTV. Is there a place where most of you buy your sensors that hook up with the GV cards? I'm looking for sensors like magnetic contacts, motion sensors etc...I'm not sure what works best....are they all created equal? Thanks

For cheap cameras they sure seem fine to me. Thanks for the video links.

Thanks for the replies scorpion. You have a really cool idea. What I plan to do is set it up so the overlooking camera will record on access activation. Not too much will happen at that pump without the owner being aware. I should mentioned I need prox readers that are industrial to operate -30 or more temps. It gets really cold up here in the dead of winter. Also how do you all handle power outages. What if all the doors are access controlled and the power goes out for hours. A battery backup system will only last so long. There employees will no access to the building and the PIR exits will probably fail to function as well. I have not figured out a solution here but there must be a solution if lot of folks are getting access systems. Thanks.

Anyone ever heard of Securakey or has had experience with them. I contact ADI today and they provided with contact information for this company. I spoke with them and am supposed to meet with a rep sometime next week. I have never heard of them but according to their website have been in business for 35 years. Thanks

rory, What color cameras are being used? It is a nice picture. Are they pretty good in all light? Thanks
-
Very cool what can be done I've been reading a lot into that. I could have our current DVR do the same by triggering an event through a sensor tied to the access control and having it record an email the owner. Don't think he cares about all this he only cares about being able to review when and who has been taking gas. As far as the special type of relay, I will be installing a secure box on the structure surrounding the pump so it will not be directly near the tank and pump itself. There will not be a problem with the relay where spark could cause a problem and if anything it will be safer than the already on off light switch they have mounted near the tank now! Any experience with relays and access control?

Yes we are so we are wide open for sources right now as we test out who is right for us. Thanks for the link I will see what they have to offer.

Definitely a smarter camera but the cons I read are a lot of the same cons I see with the one's we currently use. So myself personally would not buy it because why spend that much more on a camera that will have a lot of the same issues plus my customers like the price I am able to give on the ones I use now plus it satisfies there wants. Both cameras you will find will never track everything you want them to track so trying to sell it on this point will not fly with a customer. If I could tell a customer the cost difference will let them tell the camera what to track and what not then maybe yes but that will never happen. Like in the demo it shows how they can lock onto the subject without following anyone else that come into view. Well......how about if someone else in the view is causing problems and you want it to change to a different subject without having to direct it....It ain't gonna happen with either camera as it's impossible for it to know what is good to follow and what is not I never suggest using these in a busy environment anyhow. However, I'm sure these cameras will get smarter and smarter it's just this Panasonic is a bit too highend for what my current customers would want. Funny thing is they even state outside may give undesired performance. Digressing here: What I would like to see is GV to have object track without the need for a spot camera. I guess since it is all pixels on the screen why I can't use any old PTZ camera and have GV issue the move commands in the direction of the moving object. I imagine it can be done it's just not at that point yet. If the protocol is Pelco then any Pelco protocol capable camera should work, NO? Sorry to digress I just thought there could be a lower cost way of providing the autotracking for people who just want the basic capability without paying an arm and a leg for it. Maybe they currently have a PTZ camera and would like to turn it into an object tracking PTZ. There is a market out there for this stuff. I have a lot of interested people in this auto-tracking technology but most wants it for nothing. My 3c this time

When I say the others are 1/3" I am referring to the other non-PTZ cameras. I have 7 additional cameras which are all 1/3" one is a dome, one is a bullet and the other 5 are all box cams in outdoor heated enclosures. Any specific reason why you are looking for a 1/3" PTZ AT Camera? The 1/4" will not work for you?

This is a very old thread and I'm not really sure how I came across it. We also had this same situation but without the sue threat. Customer wants to see the whole lot, the main road and the parking lot across the street from him. We advise strongly against it or install a second camera to cover the entrance at least to give him a better chance at hopefully capturing a plate. Well he had an incident where a vehicle came in 10pm at night just after he left and drove straight to a customer vehicle and swiped the stereo. We can tell car color, two individuals, their builds but no facial description nor plate as the pic was to washed out with the low light and bright vehicle lights. We have low lux cameras but the darn AGC feature is a catch 22. We went out of our way and located footage during the day where that same vehicle was scoping out the place passing back and forth on the main road (so no plate). We backed everything up for them and sat there when the cops showed up to show them the footage. The cops stated that our video was much better than any video they saw at a Walmart! LOL we want to use his statement in our brochures... Anyhow, with no plate or facial shot I can almost guarantee that our customer will never get anywhere with resolution on this case. We explained why and he acknowledged our communicating the concern with such a wide view. He still does not want to add another camera nor does he want us to tighten up the shot. Oh well. I wanted to share what we have at the bottom of ALL our estimates and invoices. I had a lawyer word this up for us and I'll pass it on free of charge to you if you find a use in it or it brings maybe some piece of mind then you can thank me later I make no claims about this legal statement nor that it will work in your case so use it at your risk or will......here is goes: Customer hereby acknowledges that the equipment purchased from and/or installed by (put yout business name here) is solely intended to be used as a video surveillance device. (put your business name here) makes no claim or guarantee that the use of the products will prevent or deter theft. Neither (put your business name here) nor any of it's principal owners and/or investors shall be liable for any claim based on a customer's use of the Products sold by and/or installed by (put your business name here) regardless or whether or not the Products were functioning properly. Like I stated maybe this will help you maybe not and if so here is a contribution from me This is at the bottom of all our printed invoices and estimates. So it is stated up front when they first get the estimate that we make no claims on the operation. We do our best at listening to the customer as the original poster stated but there comes a time where it is impossible to do what they want and you simply have to state this or walk away from the consulation because the customer is a cheap skate and does not really want a professionally installed system....basically they are tire kickers no real intent. Gotta use your judgement. Good luck out there and CYA as best as possible.

Well the CC2600 AT Camera at CCTVImports is a 1/4". I have a 9 camera system at a customer with two of these and the rest are all 1/3. No problems although theoretically the larger the better so a 1/3 would allow more light but these AT Cameras I have installed are great at night.

I'm looking at the Everfocus EQ550 camera to replace these illuminator series type cameras but I think this may be the same type of camera. I think part of the issue I have been having with these low light cameras is the fact they are not true DAY/NIGHT cameras. There is no mechanical switch. Looking at this Everfocus camera they have states as part of the spec "True Day/Night Function with ICR module.". What does this mean. I haven't been able to find a manual or understand this. These cameras will be in a dimly lit lot near a main road. I forsee a lot of headlight action at least from the one pointing towards the entrance. Maybe I am better off looking at a WDR camera? Budget constraints here so hopefully find something not much more than $200. These cameras would be mounted in an outdoor heated enclosure. Thanks

I have installed a number of the Autotracking cameras that CCTVImports carry with success. I actually never thought they would catch on but I actually have two customers that have two installed each. Both customers love them. You really need to set the expectation with the customer or understand that it is motion sensitive and it may be running around trying to catch falling leaves or a bird flying by. You can set the size of the object to track but I have mixed results using this setting. When installing one of these cameras I always suggest that the customer also install a parameter camera so when the camera is off tracking something that you don't miss something else. I like the programmability of the cameras. I can record a manual track for the camera to follow and have it loop the track indefinitely. I live where it is very cold in the winter and when the temp drops to -40 sometimes these cameras have continued operating without issue. I have just quoted out another 3 of them recently. I like them, don't know if anyone else has any experience with them but I'd be happy to talk more about how I use them and programming. I would advise using them in a busy parking lot unless you just want to use it for the other great programming features without actually using the autotracking part of it. I have one customer that is using it at their residence and another at a large garage where they have trucks coming and going but he likes the camera and the way it operates. The price is fair for them I think. I will keep selling them as long as people are happy with the quality and what they can provide.

Equal to the Speco intesifier box cam (model slips my mind) is the much lower priced CPH4000 that CCTVImports carries. Do a spec to spec compare and they are identical and they even look identical. Seems to be a rebadge job. I even downloaded the Speco PDF file and the OSD menu looks the same with the exception of a couple renamed feature settings. Check it out and you'll see what I mean. I have gotten a number of these cameras. Some places it works great and some it does not do too well. The day time picture looks pretty good with Fujinon lens but the night shot appears to be over bright. Play with AGC as stated here and it really goes haywire. Turn it off and the cam goes black turn it even to the lowest and it really starts to get grainy. Sure you may see a pic but as stated it is pretty ghostly. Forget seeing a car drive by even slowly. This cam is also not great seeing a car drive by in the day time as it leaves a trailing shadow although maybe because of my DVR????Tried 3 kinds and get the same effect with the latest being a GV system.
