Which format do you record in?
3RDIGLBL replied to Silence's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Oh one more thing because I love that video so much. If it's so dark in there as they would want you to think then how does she make it through the office so easily without bumping into things and oh wait she actually opens the note pad and reads through it . I wonder how much back lighting they actually have in that video Sorry for the thread jack. I do use H.264 for all ip installs and typically MPEG4 for analog. FPS is rarely over 10. -
Which format do you record in?
3RDIGLBL replied to Silence's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I love that last Dropbox link. No way in hell have I been able to get a clean picture like that with a 3511 with a fast shutter like. There is so much noise in the picture it's ridiculous. I have asked them how I can repeat a clean picture like that with a fast shutter and no one has gotten me an answer. I have installed many of them and no such luck. I get some kind of noise pulse in every one of there cameras I've installed and I probably have about 80 of them so far. The pulse is almost similar to a 60hz cycle you would see on a bad tv except with out the vertically moving horizontal lines. I've power them externally, with the included ps and with Poe and always a pulse. This pulse causes motion to be triggered and the cameras record all night. Only way to fix it is with a shutter is 1/5 which is useless for anything faster than snail pace. If you have gotten your 3511 to function like in the link I would love to know how you have each setting set. Besides what criminal moves as slow as the model in that video anyway and is that a pot plant on the desk -
Well, you CAN (at least in the current version) right-click the plan and go "Save image" - skips the clipboard step. But you're right, export functions are extremely limited, and if you're working on a smaller screen (netbook), you end up with a very small picture. Ya you are correct you can right click but it only saves what you have in the view of your plan. If you want to save the whole image of the plan you must shrink the image down so it fit's into that small area of your screen before you save the image. Pretty retarded but for what it is I won't complain cause it works. For the online price of $195 I thought I may have a few more features like the whole plan save to image so I can use it with customers I mean it is afterall the business license I purchased. I should have just bought the residential version. Hopefully they use my money to make these small improvements.

The jvsg is the cad software that I use. For the price, you can't beat it. It's what I use but it's missing some pretty important things. There is no way to export (not that I have found) the Site Plan to image file that I can give or show the customer. Only option is to copy the image to the clip board which is the section of the image that is in view at the time you copy it which creates a low quality image. Another feature I would like to see would be being able to add tabs. I have a customer with multiple site drawings (one for inside the building and one for exterior parking) that way I don't have to create a whole separate project for the same customer site. I'm sure I can pick a bit more at it but these are some of the major items I found that it could use.

ACTi ACM & TCM 3511 convoluted design
3RDIGLBL posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well I got 15 of these 3511 cameras to install, the cable is all run and would typically take a few minutes to install but these 3511 cameras will probably double or triple my install time because of the poor design of the dome housing. For those that have installed these cameras I'm sure you know what I mean. First off the base twists off and is not easy to twist back on making it difficult to install on a drop ceiling without shifting the ceiling tile all over the place. Second the plastic dome twists off instead of being removable by screws or whatever and when the dome is twisted off the whole lens assembly turns with it. Because of ir reflection there is a rubber seal surrounding the lens and it pushes up tight against the plastic dome cover cause the whole lens assembly to turn. Aligning this and adjusting this camera is a joke. There is no way to twist all the pieces back totally tight because as you twist the dome back on your freshly aligned camera is now not where you wanted it. I have almost thrown this camera down the hallway out of complete frustration. Anyone have tips to make this a better experience with this camera? -
correct power supply for 250ft run?
3RDIGLBL replied to JeffWasHere's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You say supplies so i assume you are running one supply per camera and each camera has those voltage requirements and if this is all true then yes you should not have an issue but not all pre made Siamese is created equal so I tread lightly. You may get the power but some cheap pre made cables cause video issues. -
Anyone ever have a customer or have experience with Citrix and viewing your NVR through it? I have a customer with a Citrix server and a few users run through this Citrix server. Basically Citrix is the brains behind a dumb terminal to summarize from a 100' foot level. Customer is running NUUO and from the server itself can view the cameras but going through Citrix can not see any images. Citrix uses terminal services so I'm not sure if terminal services is preventing the video through put somehow and if so what could I check to make sure it's active in order to allow the video through. Customer tried a remote desktop session to the sever and had the same issue so we suspect something with terminal services. They get the consoler but the video is not being displayed. Thanks

NVR Through Citrix
3RDIGLBL replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks Hardwired, Know of any solutions or is it a "it is what it is" kind of scenario? I'll check with them about running an IE session using the web interface but that's all directX as well so I'm betting we will run into the same scenario. -
I've installed a lot of CNB cameras and I find that the default settings for the most part work fine. You didn't mention the kind of area that you are trying to capture. You mention it is on your house so are you looking at your front door or the whole driveway? If the area is sort of lit the camera will make up for the lack of light by increasing it's gain and it's shutter speed will decrease to provide you a picture but this comes at a cost of noise. Can you attach a screen shot of the noice you're talking about because this may help others here to see what it is you may be missing. The monalisa camera which it appears you have is a decent camera for night time but it will need some light or IR to flood the area you're trying to monitor.

Installation monitor for ip cameras?
3RDIGLBL replied to andy74's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Do what I did. I bought a E350 Van with a 29' VersaLift Bucket. Best damn purchase I ever made. I can bring the whole computer up there with me if I need to. I haven't used a ladder outside in months because I use the thing even when it's a few feet off the ground LOL! I have 120V power and hang a box off the side to keep all my tools and parts and it makes a nice shelf for me to put my laptop on while focusing. Kinda like comparing a Cadillac to a Ford Focus. It's so much more comfortable Most of my jobs are on level ground ie schools, gas stations, big buildings other places I got the ladder for if need be. Now if it only did 25MPG I would be golden because 7-9MPG is killing me. -

ACTi ACM & TCM 3511 convoluted design
3RDIGLBL replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I send my results to ACTi, I hope they will send some patch or something. That cam was our big hope for best night vision cam Good luck with that. The camera will be eol soon. I didn't think it was that bad, I've seen worse and rightfully so considering the msrp on that badboy! You didn't mention what you were trying to capture because it simply may be the wrong camera for the job. I disabled the ir's on my camera because the area to be cover had street lights and the ir's were useless anyhow so I can't comment on the glaring. -
Arecont Vision cameras - is it possible at all ?
3RDIGLBL replied to Maniek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I officially can't stand Arecont anymore. I've been fighting one 5105DN focus issue and just order another lens in hope to get a sharper picture no have the same issue with soft edges and lines. So I thought I would try my second 5105DN that I had but when I opened the brand new box and there were white chalk looking marks on the top and the ir filter has a haze just off the center of the lens so I called Arecont and they wanted me to prove that the haze caused an issue with the picture. I told them B.S you come here and spend the amount of time i've spent with these things and I said I want to send it back. Needless to say I'm working my distributor. I have a 3135 to send back also because on one of the cameras I can not get the color sensor to focus other than the center of the lens. It's the weirdest thing I can get the center to look great on the black and white sensor and the other camera is great. I don't know what the issue is with Arecont quality control, but it's costing me money. I asked them the same thing as the original poster, I just want my picture to look like the ones they have on there website. -
Anyone know if they fixed the Day Light Savings setting on the EH5216 (MPEG4 version) I installed a few of them a year ago and the one basic function it was missing was the yearly DST. You could set it up but it was by date and not day so it was only good for one year and then you have to go back and set up a new date for the year after instead of using the normal logic other DVR's have which is the second Sunday in March at 2am and the first Sunday in November at 2am. Thanks
-
Hi 3RDIGLBL. just looking at making a patch. it will take a few days. simple fix. were you enter time and date for summer time change. instead of day/month/year. looking at removing year and having that change automatically with the dvr clock. and that will sort it out. this will be done on the decembers 2010 update software. so please update your dvr if you have not done so. Tom. I spoke to a product lead at AverMedia and they said the dst issue is not fixed and he has no idea if it will ever be fixed. I told him then I'm not selling anymore. So let's say it's my word against a criminal and there happened to be criminal activity on the day of DST. The time would be off by one hour for a 24 hr period and if it's been a couple years since changing it on the DVR then it's a 48 hour period. It's such a simple feature that is even on the lowest cost DVR's that I don't understand why it's been over a year since I've been complaining and they still haven't fixed it. I find it unacceptable. Simply say the 2nd Sunday of March and the 1st Sunday of November every year and the time difference is one hr. Why so hard?

Which lenses are your 4.5-10mm? Are they the Arecont lenses? I do have two 5105's at thsi customer I could try the other one to see if I can get the image the way I need. Supposed to be nice tomorrow maybe I'll swap them to see. If you can not get them focused do you just send them back? Seems like almost eveytime I order Arecont cameras I get a bad one.

Don't get Areconts MPL varifocal lenses. Man I fought with that for hours and still can not get a distortion free image as well as I can't get the image to be clean. The image out of the ACTi ACM7411 they have kicks butt compared to the image on the Arecont. I called them today and said I used there megapixel lens which is a cheap MP lens I guess. I told them about distortion around the edges and the problem I'm having with focusing and getting a clear image. They said try a 2/3" lens and make sure it's fixed. ARGH! Fixed is tough cause the calc shows I need a 10.67mm lens. I would go 10 but 8 will be too wide and higher than 10 is too narrow. It's gotta be this darn lens causing the unclear image. It's at a gas station and I can't get the brick pylons to show clean lines, they look fuzzy. I played with focus for almost 15 minutes and just no where to get it clear. Gotta be an optics issue, I can't figure out what else it could be because I have seen nice Arecont 5105 still shots and they were really nice. Arecont tech said to try lenses by Computar or Fujinon. I looked at Thiea but I don't need that wide and I don't need that much VF range.

I had my question answered today. Looks like DST is not at the top of Avermedia's list of things to fix. Been over a year now with no fix.

Is 16/2 ok for power to cameras?
3RDIGLBL replied to rickm15752's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Not sure where he is from but if he decides to use an outdoor enclosure with heater then POE may not be right for him unless he gets a High POE enclosure or one of a few no name brand POE enclosures. A separate power cable will allow him the most flexibility in my opinion. -

3RDIGLBL replied to rickm15752's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
In short. No problem there. Can't see any real disadvantage other than what you mentioned. Good choice to run a separate power cable along with cat 5e for future purposes. Won't hurt that's for sure. -
IP camera system for grocery store.
3RDIGLBL replied to nmartinezjr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I don't want to say it but ***cough *** ACTi ***cough, cough*** also has free NVR software and is definitely a budget IP solution. Results may vary.... As ak said Vivotek is a decent choice and they have a decent indoor IR dome you could also look at. -
email notification that actually works
3RDIGLBL replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Avigilon, bleh, over all very nice software but I have too many customers looking for cross platform functionality such as Mac, Linux, android, iPhone etc., and I just don't want to support multiple nvr solutions. I really don't like exacq's search feature, I find it really needs a lot of work in this area and is getting its doors blown off by competitors in this area. The email part of it I have not been able to get it to work for some reason, but it must be my fault because I guess it works well. I tried to get it to email me if a camera goes off line and I have not been able to even get that working, hmmmm. -
It has been a while since I saw an update to the exacq mobile software on my iPod touch and for my iPad so I checked out the app store and noticed a new app named exacq mobile 2 and it's FREE! Would be nice to get my $50 back considering they bumped it up to a 2.1 version with a new free app and most likely my $50 is wasted with the previous version.

Try adding cameras and moving them to the window you want it to be in. Hopefully they have quick updates from here on out because right now I'm still using the first because of things I enjoyed and are now lost. They should have at least released the first one with, at a minimum, the same features. Good to have it free I guess. Just hoping there are regular updates.

Well that is BS....I prefer the original as it was more user friendly. Talking about taking it on the chin.....Welcome to America! Just plain low on exacq's part.
