Just wondering how good/reliable the motion detection and masking is on the Panasonic cams (ie. Panasonic WV-CW474AS dome and WV-CP484 fixed). Since this DVR I have at present (Avermedia EB1304 NET) does not have masking at present, was curious if I could use the cameras motion detection instead. I would have the alarm output(s) from a Panasonic WJ-MP204C Data MUX going into the DVR alarm input(s). This should work yes? Thx.

It has port 22 (SSH) or 23 (Telnet) open?? Interesting if it does.

That one up top looks like a Panasonic WV-CL924. Nice.

Any idea what these 2 small black spots are? Defective cam? Tried cleaning the outside lense, but no diff. Sometimes the spots turn white, red, etc. It is a Panasonic WV-CW474AS. Would not surprise me if it has issues since it is off eBay. The wires were new an unmolested and was sold as new though. ETA: Now 4 x white spots below...

Here they are more pronounced. There are even 5 or 6 more tinier ones. The center cross is some Panasonic thing from the cam menu. It's like a starfield and they glitter the same.

I am considering going on the cheap and installing my front house cam inside against the front window. It would be on angle, prob 40 degrees or so. The cam will either be a Panasonic WV-CW474AS (only cam at present) or a Panasonic WV-CP484 (hopefully). My concern is the neighbors gawking, talking, pointing etc. that they have a cam and no one else does blah blah. So I would like to be a little discreet if possible with the front cam. The back I don't care and am going to use a Pelco EH3512-2 MT housing eventually. Any issues with glare or reflection doing so? Tx.

I want to connect my main cam (only have one now at present anyway) like the below, and was wondering if there might be any signal loss issues.. -> from the cam to the input of a Panasonic WJ-MP204C Data MUX -> from the output of the MUX to the A-channel input of a Panasonic CRT monitor -> from the A-channel output of the Panasonic monitor to the input of the DVR. -> then the output from the DVR to the B-input channel of the CRT monitor I want to do it this way b/c I am assuming the A-input on the monitor will be a clearer picture, and I always have a live unmolested (other than going through the Data MUX) view. Does this sound right? Thx.

Anyone use an Seagate beyond the 250GB Seagate HD (ST3250820A) that AverMedia recommends? ie. 320GB or 500GB. I have never had luck with WD or Maxtor in the PC world (at least 5 or 6 died in WS computers in the office) I have also never liked the Hitachi 'clicking' noise (which I know can be disabled with the Hitachi tools - on a PC that is). Emailed Aver and they never answered my question re the above. They just said they have had best results with Hitachi. Also, anyone ever split that Molex connector and connect to a baby fan to fit in the rear corner? tx

Tx. Just noticed that this DVR will only record at 15fps or so if D1 is selected. It will only record at 30fps if CIF is selected. I am only using 1 camera so far and figured it would record @ 30fps if D1 was enabled. Is this common to most DVR's?

Yep, it needed a Torx security bit. I found a complete set today at a local electronics store. The camera did not come with one. It was off feebay. Thx.

I can't get the 3 screws off this Panasonic WV-CW474AS dome cam. It appears to be a torx head, but there is also a center piece protruding in the middle. Would seem the torx head would need to be hollow also. Is there some special tool needed? The last WV-CW474AS I had no probs getting it off and do not recall that center piece. Thx.
-
Are you sure? This center piece almost seems flush with the top.

Just picked up a 320GB Seagate today. Will try that for now. Thx.

I like the decoy thing. Kinda like this 'extra' wallet I have in case I am robbed (for the hand over you wallet type). It has some employment cards in it, some other useless biz cards, couple pennies, etc.

What 24VAC Altronix is recommended for the setup below? I only have one camera so far (Panasonic WV-CW474AS) and might add a 2nd camera. Prob be a WV-CP474 or WV-CP484. Both will be using the blower/heater combo. 4 cams total in the future, but only 2 planned at present. Also, do these Altronix power supplies come with a basic power cord similar to ones used on computers that plug into the wall outlet, or are they hard wired? I just ordered a AverMedia EB1304 NET. Should be here soon. Monitor is a 17" Panasonic CRT (WV-CM1780). Also, have a used Panasonic WV-CU360C controller on the way (again). I want to be able to access the cam menu with this Panasonic WJ-MP204C Data MUX I have (hopefully). Need a PS-DATA cable for starters. If anyone knows where to find a few PS-DATA cables, pls let me know. This is all for home use. Thx.

Thanks for the info. It is a very small house, so I am expecting less than 100'. I have a thing for Panasonic cams and related hardware, even though I am on a tight budget. I may upgrade the AverMedia DVR to something else later though. I would really like a Panasonic or March Networks DVR, but they are way out range right now. I would be in heaven with a WV-CW964 PTZ In re to the power cable on the Altronix... I just wire the internal power wires myself... and then there is a std power cable that plugs into a wall outlet? Also, what is a 'Factory installed 3-wire line cord' that they mention? Does that eliminate doing the internal power wiring yourself? Thx.

Anyone know where to find them? I may need a few soon for a WV-CU360C controller and WJ-MP204C MUX. Thx.

CAN i Make my computer into a DVR??
G22 replied to rdawg's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
This thread has reached its Smiles a Lot quota for da day. Tanks. -
I hear they are excellent. A very popular and old local CCTV supplier replaced their high end Panasonic WJ-HD316 display model with a March Networks 4310 DVR, so they must be excellent.
-
Good luck. I have never seen prices.

Yes, cctvsentry in Kingston, ON is a legit GEO dist in Canada. That's where we got our GEO card back in the day.

Anyone have any recorded clips and/or pics from the Capture CPT-SDR410. ATV labels them the FA4-120. Thx.

FWIW, we changed our old GV800 that kept crashing at work at picked up the 4ch Q-SEE DVR card from tigerdirect .ca. The card has ran 100% with absolutely no issues so far, which has been a surprise. It even has PDA function built-in which was a bonus. I see TD had it listed for VERY VERY cheap a few weeks ago, then I see they pulled it within the last week or so, not sure why. They also sell the DVR versions of the Q-SEE. Very basic, but they worked perfectly for me so far... the DVR card version at least. Same here... looking for a budget DVR (for now), as I don't want 'another' computer in the room, and especially one running 24/7.
-
Interesting. That DVR looks just like the one Q-SEE offers.

RS-485 cable for Panasonic System Controller (WV-CU360C)
G22 posted a topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Anyone know where to get RS-485 cable and a splitter for daisy chaining? This is the cable that comes with a Panasonic WV-CU360C System Controller used for PS-DATA. It looks like a phone cord, but a bit wider w/6 pins. Thx.
