Just wanted to update my problem with the DVR shutting down (crashing the pc) I found that I am still getting the w32time error, but my solution was to hard wire in my pc and stop using the wireless card. That seemed to stop the system from stopping. i guess my wireless was just too weak of a signal to keep it going? Rob

I put together a pc based system with a fresh install of windows XP home. my problem is two nights in a row at different times 1am and 3am, my system just stops, no more recording and no more internet submissions/? In my event viewer for dvr shows nothing and the event viewer for the pc also shows not much, only the pc viewer for the 3am downtime showed some win32 error about clock syncrynising but at 3:32am. I set up ultra vnc to control the pc (no monitor/keyboard) and when the system stops so does the vnc I assume this problem is related since I can't view the cameras over the internet either during these down times....right now I can only fix it by rebooting, then everything is fine but I know it is going to stop again. any ideas thanks rob

you are not alone! I have been having the same exact problems and I have reinstalled XP twice. I pretty much gave up and just reboot every other day! My next step was going to be installing some linux program but I didn't have the time to learn another system yet. I hope you figure it out and post a solution here!

I read a lot regarding bugs and IR cameras, so I got two cameras without the IR (color bullet) At night of course the picture is barely there so I built a 36 IR led (940nm) and it actually does nothing, if I point the leds at the camera it does pick them up but actually helping the camera at night in the FOV it does nothing. After reading some more threads I read that not all cameras pick up the 940nm? So, now I am wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to really understand what IR is all about. Keep in mind I am doing the security camera thing at home and more or less as a hobby, I have had no problems, but I have always wanted to do this, but not for a ton of $. It is a pc based NV5000 thanks rob

Yeah I am afraid of this, as that adds to my confusion. I would like to just add a simple B/W bullet and use it with my existing 940nm IR, but I may have to as you are saying get the IR @ 850nm for the cheaper camera I will probably get. I was thinking of getting this camera, what do you all think? ~Edit: CR Removed Wen vendor link~ KT&C KPCEXH190SWX Again thanks for everyone's time! rob

The dvr does have an autoreboot, but it is not turned on at the moment, I figure I could set it up daily if I had to since that actually resets everything and it fixes the problem. I still have to go into the system and see if something else is happening like windows trying to update or some other software I am not aware of.

I am very new to this and while I was installing my 1st camera (last week) I noticed it would come on then off....etc. I disconnected it and noticed that the pin inside the wire was not really long, making a bad contact. By pushing the wire into the fitting the inside pin extended out more and my problem went away.

CCTV down under - I appreciate your time, you have given me some things to consider and taught me something. I don't think for my application a true day/night camera is for me although I would like it, just not prepared to spend $400 to $500+, So, I will be looking at the cheaper B/W bullet and I can provide the LEDs. I knew this was going to be a bit of trial and error since this is my 1st taste of cctv, but I am having fun.

I think B/W camera may be the right way for me. the true day/night camera looks little more complicated for me right now. (camera, housing, and does it need more wires?)

thanks, that clears things up, I wasn't thinking about other things creating the IR light. Now, I am in a pickle, I need to replace my cameras.

for 2 nights now I didn't have it go down? Not sure if it fixed itself (I doubt), I will keep an eye on it

help building a pc based security system (Avermedia)
latenightrob posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
new poster 1st timer here, What I want is a system that can handle #2 outside IR cameras with the ability to expand to #4 down the road. (home based system to cover my front and back doors) What I would like is some help figuring out compatibity of products. I have a mobo that is a Abit IC7-G and it is intel 875, but I can't verify if the PCI slots are 32bit 2.1 compliant? I also have a newer mobo (still in the box) AsRock 4Core1600P35-WiFi and it is LGA 775. the problem with the newer one is that none of the AVErmedia cards are listed as compatiable on there website with the 775? I have emailed Avermedia, but i would greatly appreciate any help from the forum. thanks rob
