Eighteen brands of security camera digital video recorders (DVRs) are vulnerable to an attack that would allow a hacker to remotely gain control of the devices to watch, copy, delete or alter video streams at will, as well as to use the machines as jumping-off points to access other computers behind a company’s firewall, according to tests by two security researchers. Moore was able to identify 18 companies that seem to use the faulty code: Swann, Lorex, URMET, KGuard, Defender, DSP Cop, SVAT, Zmodo, BCS, Bolide, EyeForce, Atlantis, Protectron, Greatek, Soyo, Hi-View, Cosmos, and J2000. See the whole article at: http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2013/01/28/more-than-a-dozen-brands-of-security-camera-systems-vulnerable-to-hacker-hijacking/ Thought it might be good to know

Best DVR location? In the Security Room or Data Center
tracenet replied to Integrator Asia's topic in System Design
Just my 2 cents worth, I would put it in the data center because of security, enviroment, and backup power. The security room could then access it through the network or internet. The security department could still have complete control of the DVR(s) just not next to them. -
Can't figure out password on Dahua based DVR
tracenet replied to pal251's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If the DVR is a Dahua try going to http://www.dahuasecurity.com and go to their support page. I know that these DVR's have a builtin revolving master password based on the date of request. They should be able to help you. -
This is a great reference book for free. It will cost you your e-mail address but I think it is worth it. Follow the link below to NEW 2012 Video Surveillance Book Download http://ipvm.com/book

Need Help Finding Camera meeting this min. spec.
tracenet posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi Guys, I really need some help locating several choices for the following min. spec. "The system shall utilize, at a minimum, 5 mega-pixel (IP) cameras and high-resolution IP Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras. The 5 mega-pixel cameras, or higher, shall utilize a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor with ½” optical format and stream images natively in H.264 (Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)-4, Part 10) format. The cameras shall have Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) support allowing for compatibility with media players such as Windows Media Player, Apple QuickTime, VLC Player and others. The camera shall have a minimum illumination of 0.3 lux in color mode. The Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera shall stream images in both Motion JPEG and H. 264 simultaneously. The Pan/Tilt/Zoom shall have on-board electronic images stabilization and be equipped with 35x optical zoom. The camera shall have a minimum illumination of 0.5 lux in color mode and 0.008 lux in Black and White (B/W) mode." Any suggestions would be appreciated, I just need the make and model if anyone can advise. Thanks -
Just in case you are interested: If you’re leasing fiber links for your optical network, you may be interested in this new breakthrough for high-speed transceivers that can cut your fiber requirements in half while providing 10Gps speeds up to 80km away. OptoSpan has designed bidirectional transceivers (SFP+, SFP, XFP, X2) that can send and receive data up to 10Gbps on a single strand of fiber. Available transceivers from Cisco, Brocade, Juniper and Alcatel require you to use two strands for a single link, hence doubling your costs. At no additional cost, OptoSpan bidirectional transceivers instantly double the number of 10Gps or 8G FC links over a typical fiber pair, an ability no switch manufacturer offers today.

tracenet replied to jbtelco's topic in Digital Video Recorders
jbtelco, try to open ports TCP 37777 and UDP 37778 on your router/firewall and the software client should be able to connect to the DVR from the Internet. -

Hi All, I am in need of a Auto Tracking PTZ camera with around a 30X zoom. Can anyone suggest a good one that they have some experience with. I know that there are alot of them out there but I would like some suggestion from you guys.

Hi Guys, Is there anyone out there that has any working knowledge of this PTZ Auto tracking box? Here is a link to Bluecherry's site that sells it along with many more. http://store.bluecherry.net/Auto_Tracking_Box_PTZ_to_Motion_Tracking_Box_p/ptz-at-box.htm What I am having problems with is setting up the presets positions in this box. I have been able to get it to track moving objects but not return to a center position when done tracking. Anybody with any suggestions on where to get some tech info on the box would be appreciated.

G4-8RTA-D1 DVR not recognizing new HDD's
tracenet replied to alpine0000's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi William, I think the first thing I would look at is why your first HD is in SATA port 5. The information I have on this unit says that it will handel 6 HD with a DVD installed. The first thing I would do is plug the HD into HDD01 and move down from there. Just my thoughts. Jim Trace-Net Network Services, LLC -
Intellicam and GenIV Technology?
tracenet replied to embedded_tom's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi Tom, First they are the same company they just changed their name and site name. You asked about the "GenIV for Android based phones" You need to call them at 1-800-814-4364 and ask if the new phone app will work or not on the unit that you have. I have heard that the phone app. only works with the newest of their DVR's. Hope that helps Jim Trace-Net Network Services, LLC -
Hi I saw your post and I have many of these units in the field. Ports to open: TCP 37777 UDP 37778 HTTP 80 The best way to view is with the Pro Client Software that should have come with the DVR. If not you can PM me and I can get it to you. It does also have the WEB browser interface but I like the client better. Also they just released a iPhone App for this DVR check it out at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/g4ss/id368227728?mt=8 Jim Trace-Net Network Services, LLC

suggestions for good night time vision cameras
tracenet replied to prove_it's topic in System Design
Hi, I noticed your post and I have a suggestion for you. Go to a Bass Pro Shop or a Dicks Sporting goods store and look at there game cameras. They are megapixel cameras with IR and with that you could move it around until you get the shot you want. You should be able to get one for 200 dollars. Thats just my suggestion. -
copy onto DVD a recorded incident
tracenet replied to paulomd2@gmail.com's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hi it is really easy to copy your files. Go into search and search for the recorded video that you want to copy. Next to the file list are check boxes and check all of the clips that you want to copy. Once all the clips are checked look down under the list of video clips and next to the search button you will see a save to disk icon. Load a DVD-R into the machine and press start. Thats it. If you still are having problems PM me. Jim -
I just thought I would enter my 2 cents. For the money and performance I like the G4-HD-E It has 720p HDMI output that I like alot to my monitors. http://www.genivtechnology.com/s.nl/it.A/id.518/.f

Looking for Motorized Pan/Tilt Device w/RS-485 Control
tracenet posted a topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Hi all, I was wondering if someone could help me locate a motorized Pan/Tilt device that I can control off of my DVR with RS-485 connection. Indoor unit is ok outdoor is best. I want to mount a variety of cameras on it but the camera size is small. Anybody out there who can suggest where this item can be located. I found a lot with wired controllers on them. These cameras are observed from a remote location. Thanks for your assistance... -
I have sold and installed many of these units from Intellicam and I like the product alot. I like the configuration and find it easy to train people on. I have one client that has them at 9 of their properties and security is monitored from a central site. You can either use the WEB browser or the Client Software which is included. If you purchase the unit and get stuck you can PM me and I will try to help you out.

Looking for a smaller DVR with following Spec......
tracenet posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi everyone, I am looking for a DVR basically like the Intellacam JS-RTA-D1 4 or 8 Channel Standard 4ch or 8ch unit with DVD-RW Recording Frame Rate 4CIF Resolution: 30 frames/sec/channel Video Compression H.264 Preview Resolution NTSC: 704 x 480 (4CIF) Compression Resolutions NTSC: 704 x 480 (4CIF) NTSC: 704 x 240(2CIF) The catch is I need it in a smaller form factor than a 19 inch 2U case. It will be installed into a DVR Cooler Nema4 enclosure. The DVR Cooler I have will hold the 19 inch DVR but cable connectons and recording to the DVD requires pulling the unit out. Anybody have any makes or models I could look at? Any help would be appreciated. Trace-Net Network Services tracenet@bellsouth.net -

Need Reviews for Intellicam JS-16XLA
tracenet replied to john_cctv's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I have used the Intellacam JS-16RTA units in about 35 installations and have found them to be reliable. The major diference I see between the JS-16XLA is 7.5 FPS in 4CIF (D1) versis 15 FPS in 4CIF (D1) in the RTA model. I do have to admit that getting tech support by e-mail is not fast but the units I have used hold up well. I have not used any watermarks although there is a configuration for it on the advanced menu. I would also look at the ICRealtime MAX16 series I have had good luck with those units also. -
I did one for a gated community where we built an enclosure backed up the the brick wall inside the gate area and insulated it and we put a DVR lockbox mounted inside the enclosure with two fans on the lock box. We added a wireless access point so the courtesy officers could log on with there laptops and review the video or to download a copy for evidence as needed. It seemed to work out and the DVR has been running for over three years without a problem. The courtesy officers like the idea as well.
