Hey guys... I have a new JS-8RTA DVR and I was testing the backup files to see how the video could be sent to law enforcement if the need came. I burned the files I wanted to a DVD Disc, however any windows machine I put the DVD in I can't see the files. Any ideas. I do have DVD drives on the windows machines.

JS-8RTA DVR Backup from DVR to DVD Question
tracenet replied to tracenet's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Thanks for your response Mike. Just in case others need to know I pulled a new unit out over the weekend and recorded some video and I tried to record onto several DVD media types. What I found was that this DVR only records to a DVD-RW. I tried DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD+RW also but it would only write to the one type of media. I thought it a little strange but at least I know now. -
Portable surveillance system camera selection
tracenet posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would like some help from the experts on this forum please. We presently have a portable surveillance system we use in our apartment properties to monitor suspicious activity by using vacant apartments. What we now have are two ACTi 1231 cameras with POE concealed in large flower pots which are placed on balconies. What we are looking for is a good quality IP camera with PTZ, and low light capabilities which can be used outdoors. This camera should have good zoom capabilities and the smaller the better but we know this camera will be harder to conceal. Any suggestions on cameras would be appreciated -
wide area motion detection and tracking

I have been playing with the system from Aimetis. It's been stable and I'm still learning but it seems like a well developed product. Pricing is by camera in Standard, Professional, and enterprise versions. Can get kind of expensive. www.aimetis.com -
If you want a real cheap answer try this link. These cameras use your electrical wiring in your house to send video to your PC and then it can send video clip to phone or login to your account. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/video_security_systems/devices/4324&cl=us,en

Hi guys I need some suggestions for a DVR. This client needs the 4 channel DVR close to some back gates in their apartment complex and the only shelter is a mail hut. The temperature range is somewhere between 0 degrees F to 110 degrees F. We can solve the heat problem during the summer but we need it to work in the wintertime with no heater in the mail hut. Any suggestions, this is in Atlanta Georgia. Thanks for any suggestions.

I installed several of these cameras for a client once who was having problems in his apartment community. Kind of expensive but we have not been back to service in over 15 months. http://www.eaglevision1.com/speed_strip_camera.htm

Try Intellicam Systems, they claim it's theirs.

How long can RG 59 work Cat5e?
tracenet replied to dj29152's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I think your confusion is that you are thinking Cat5 in a network and Cat 5 as wiring for analog cameras. In a network the segment length is 100m or 328 Feet. In a analog camera wiring you can use Cat5 wire with Active Baluns or Passive Baluns to extend a long way to your cameras. Maybe this helps or maybe not. -

Need a little help with NVR and Megapixel camera selection.
tracenet posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I want to incorporate a good software NVR solution into a Windows Media Center box. I am looking for the software to play well on a Windows framework. Any suggestions would be welcome. The solution would have to support megapixel cameras in the 2 to 5 megapixel range. I am also looking for some suggestions on the cameras which will have to work outdoors and indoors, be day/night capable. I would also like the cameras to work on POE. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. -

I'm thinking from 4 to 8 Megapixel cameras per system. Mostly outdoor cameras. As far as price per camera I would like a good cameras from around 500 to 800 range. -

Do you have any ideas on NVR Software that you might be able to recommend? -

Thanks for the warning. We custom design all of our media center boxes from scratch and write many of our own API's and menus for our boxes. I would like to add an optional CCTV product to our line as we have been asked for this in the past. Just would like to do alittle R&D for our products only. -
You can assign listening port numbers to each DVR. You would then access the DVR's remotely by entering your public IP address with that port number of the DVR you want to view. Like this (66.125.112.10:80) The :80 tells the session which port to send the info to. If you had two you might call the other DVR Port 8080 thus you would enter 66.125.112.10:8080. I hope this helps.

Maybe you should look to the WiLife Product now made by Logitech. It uses a standard PC and can transmitt video over the powerlines of your home. It's pretty inexpensive and the cameras have 400mHz processors in the cameras. Nightvision adapter is avail. and you can select 3 different lenses, 54 degree, 80 degree, 120 degree. Can get info on tracenetstore.co

I have been trying out several products by Shape Services and this is great stuff if you are running PC based DVR. You can view in real time up to four Web Cams or other network cameras directly on your mobile phone or IPhone. There is also a product for remote desktop connections to your home or office PC. The site is shapeservices if anyone is interested in it.

If you want to send your files off site you would need to have a DVR with built in FTP ability. Any XP Pro Windows machine can be a FTP server all you need is a static IP address of the FTP Server turn on IIS and the FTP snapin. Then to DVR will send the video to that server at a distant location.

Since you are looking for an enexpensive system you should look at TRENDnet cameras or Wilife (Bought by Logitech). Both have excellent cameras on the low end of CCTV.
