Thats always the killer, you can't have abuse of it but it hinders the community's flow of information if the users feel they can't link to other websites/forums. Obviously linking back to your own website without a banner ad is a no-no. Thats pretty much universally accepted, people who do it should know better. From my experience from other boards it's really nice to have a manufacturer's rep as a member, I don't think it should be discouraged. They often have key insight that nobody else has access to. I think the balance here is pretty weighted towards dealers/installers but I could be totally wrong. You see an end user from time to time but they make their thread, get their support and move on. The personalities here and active day after day will be what make or break this place. Pretty much sums it up for me. Its hard sometimes to explain a question or answer without resorting to some sort of link. Maybe clarification is needed to explain which links can/cant be used. A lot of it is common sense and this place is a "friendly" community and i see few problems. I guess a lot depends on "where" this place is headed in terms of advertising. The mix of regulars seems weighted towards the installer/supplier and i feel the addition of extra "locked" areas will alienate normal users to become a part of the community on a regular basis. The database of threads is pretty impressive in a short space of time and most questions can be answered by using the "search" facility, this could be pointed out at the headers. PS frosted (guess you had to be there), lets keep on topic

Do you think that's expensive?

Coop's, the UK has been very "lax" over the qualifications of a lot of "professionals" from the ground up.Way way behind the US in codes of safety and workmanship in electrical, plumbing and construction in general. With the arrival of "Corgi" which is now regulating the gas side of things it seemed to spark a safety purge, if you like for the rest to catch up. As you will be aware the electrical side has now included its "partp", this will stamp out a lot of shoddy installs. Indeed even a simple window replacement now has to comply and the LA are now getting tough to ensure these areas are hitting standards. Given time it will filter down to CCTV , just dont hold your breath..........

i watched a programme made for the BBC on Sunday (Natural Earth) Most of it was shot using a "chopper" with a hidef ptz dome, "chopper gimble" i think was the name they gave it. Crystal clear hidef, it could zoom in from around 3/4 of a mile away and see the colour of the animals eyes, simply stunning............

Are these DVR Symtoms Software or Hardware related
cam2 replied to CraigVM62's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Craig, windows add/install programmes is notoriously bad at removing, you have to manually remove bits yourself. There's a decent programme that un-install's every thing, if you pm me i can zip it to you. i have been in a similar position and i use a cheap 80gig hdd to do a fresh install of windows and load the system from scratch to make sure its not the hardware at fault. -

Yeah, low disc space on c: drive can cause it. one thing to check is the "log" file storage, you can send that to another drive as i have seen issues when the log is stored on C:. Best to remove C: from storage really and leave it to o/s. Another thing to check is webcam setup, check the audio server tab, if your not recording audio, untick the check boxes as this can close the server also......

PC Based DVR and UPS/Line Conditioner
cam2 replied to CraigVM62's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I see where your coming from but most geo threads go round in circles and lead us back to ups anyhow CraigVM62 asked specificly on the issue of power up via ups and its still as clear as mud. i e-mailed a supplier and they did not know! So we need info on a , UPS that powers the system back up from a battery drain without any manual intervention, do they exist??
