Surveillance video grows despite little sign it helps

Its funny to watch that and hear the woman's opinions of the CCTV. Its like hearing every other client I installed cameras for in the past 10 years. They just watch to many movies. I thought the video was pretty could considering where the cameras was placed. I think megapixel cameras will help and It is the way of the future. Its the quality of the install, equipment and a bit of luck that the perpetrator is an idiot that catches the bad guy. Talking about camera quality, I helped the FBI with a case in NY by copying footage caught on a DVMRe onto a CD. The camera was a box type pelco over 500 lines, facing a glass entrance. The video showed the the bad guy a cross the street with a gym bag that allegedly had body parts in it. No joke. It placed the guy on the same block as the crime and of course time and date. Heard it was enough to put him away. CCTV works megapixel or not!

    Monitors CRT vs LCD

Omnivison seems to have nearly a 100 licenses. I don't mind the licenses if I can get a system that is easy to use for the clients sake.

    Monitors CRT vs LCD

I know, i usually do, I meant for the head end. Is there any LCD or other that does justice like CRT? Just wondering if much has changed in the past 5 years. I have been out of the loop for three years since I moved to Norway. I have installed a few cameras systems here but not anything close to what I did in New York. I started a business in Norway working in several branches, ex-pat services, IT and security systems. Norway is pretty safe so have not been much CCTV, access and alarm work,(general market). Lot of IT though. We now have major contacts in the oil industry here and I want to push high end only CCTV and access. Looking for good products to install. In NY I worked with Kalatel(GE interlogics), Phillips, Dedicated Micros, American Dynamics, Pelco, Sony, Rapid Eye, IDView and more for DVR's. Access was mainly three types, Northern Computers,(Ademco), Kantech and Casi Rusco access control panels. Things have changed big time in only three years. (Forgive spelling mistakes) I have been playing with Omnivision for CCTV, pretty nice except for all the stupid licenses. I have looked at few others and I can not find the "one". I checked out Avigilon-That is nice. Wonder if I could get it in europe? Any recommendation on high-end access and CCTV? I would like to stay with mega-pixel cameras and NVR's. Also on access, are there any true network control panels? Hated casi when power went out, battery dies it had to try to connect to the host PC to reload its information.

is it possible to get CRT smaller than the usual mac truck size screen? You would think by now there would be something better than CRT?

    avigilon feedback?

Does Avigilon also use licenses for added/ extra features or do you pay for the software one time? Omnivision makes you build their DVR software to your specs. Want 10 cameras connected, buy licenses for it and so on. Probably need licenses for Avigilon client stations but that is pretty normal these days. I guess they're trying to stay high end only? I wonder how their support is in europe? I checked out their site and I know some of my clients would be very interested in the product. My shop is located in Stavanger Norway.

    Help with concept

how are the locations networked together? ADSL/HDSL with VPN, fractional T1....?
  9. Log into the wag200g 192.168.1.1, default admin, pass admin. On the main setup page you should see a setting keep alive time 20 min. Change the setting to always connected. If that is not the problem change the mtu setting from automatic to manual set in the value 1492. Sounds like the modem stops the connection after there is no internet traffic. By trying to connect the first time you wake up the modem, but by the time the modem comes on line the cms times out. When trying to connect the second time the modem is already up from the first connect attempt so you go right in. Some modems donot count upload traffic as active internet traffic. I hope this helps.

Day night camera not functioning correctly

I have a 12VDC 7 amperes power supply powering all the cameras. Although I did not think of that, good tip. There are 13 cameras on this particular system and those five are the only ones with the issue. Also those cameras are no more than 15 meters away, (15 yards). the others are much farther away. The power cables in the siamese are .75ø or like 18AWG I did the power calc and I have 2 amperes left over at worse case scenario. Ill try disconnecting half the load and see what happens? Will have to do it late because it gets dark here around 11:30 PM, Im a New Yorker living in Norway. Got to get the client happy so I can get paid. Just sucks that those cameras are not functioning right. I wish I sold an IP cameras based system like Exacq or Omnivision. But of course the customers budget usually chooses the equipment type. After going through much material it seems IP based equipment is the way to go.

One or more cameras are black

is it black on all cameras? Or just the 9th camera? May have to enable the camera on your DVR. Or the user you logged in with is only allowed to see the first 8 cameras. Try checking the user credentials on your DVR. It may need to be updated. If all else seems to be OK try restarting the DVR.

    LJD DELTAWAVE 16 ch dvr

Can you post a link to the DVR manufacturer? DVR may allow for multiple users. How many users do you have setup? Need more info on your DVR to help.
  13. What's your routers' part number? Also, if you're running antivirus software with firewall protection it could be that the antivirus is stopping you from pinging the DVR. You may have to open some ports or allow access to certain programs. Try turing off your firewall for a few minutes. I looked at the manual you posted and it seems pretty straight forward. Did you give the DVR a static IP that is in the same scheme as your router built in DHCP server? ex. 192.168.1.1 is router, you give your DVR 192.168.1.155? You need to use the same subnet as your routers. If your not sure go to your PC, click start, go to run, (XP), search, (Vista), type cmd, hit enter. you will see a command prompt window. Type ipconfig and then hit enter. You should see you own PC's IP address, subnet mask and gateway. Use the same gateway and subnet as your PC. Use a different IP address for you DVR. Ex. IP 192.168.1.4 (would be your pc) Subnet 255.255.255.0 (subnet of your routers allowed IP range) Gateway 192.168.1.1 (typically your router is the gateway) Seems your DVR has a built in web browser access, try putting your DVR IP address in the web address bar in your browser and hit enter. If that does not work try your DVR IP:80- ex. 192.168.1.155:80 this will direct you to port 80 which is the DVRs default. Orange light typically means 10Mbps. Sometimes if one makes his own patch cables the pairs are not connected correctly so the router switch tries to compensate for the bad signal loss and brings down the bandwidth on that particular switch port. Since it is a router made for the private market, it only knows two maybe three modes, 10/100 an sometimes /1000. like C7 in CA says, switch patch cables.
  14. Have an issue with 5 day/night cameras I recently installed. High res 500+ lines, color by day B&W by night with IR. The issue is after night time is over the DVR shows only the B&W image. You can see that the mechanical IR filter changes when there is enough light in the room/ area. If I quickly remove then reconnect the BNC connector the color comes right up! Its the same with the other four cameras. I tried reseting the DVR, power down the camera power supply and factory reset the cameras programable settings but still have the same issue. Been in the business for over 10 years this is the second time I have experience this sort of situation. the first was on an American Dynamics DVR which needed a re-install of the DVR-OS, four-five years ago. This particular situation seems to be at the cameras. Any ideas? Impedance on the line? DVR is made to terminate 75 ohm. May have to rip out, send back and get new. Help is much appreciated.
