Bad camera-lens is set too far back and is picking up the IR's. Had 2 like that and they took them back after I showed them, cause I bought 4 and the other 2 didn't do it.

It goes through lume from a light source, making it look like a bulb. I have an excellent graphics card and you can clearly see a ballon with a string travling through light.
-
First, ping the IP addy of the DVR from your computer. If it times out, your settings are wrong.

Balloon with a string attached.

Good move, rory, especially if you're not comfortable with it. Use mags, nothing to cut in. It is easy to cut a lock in after doing a couple. Cut it wrong though, and you bought a $2000 fire code door.

Can someone recommend a compression crimper?
DataAve replied to jjjjjjj's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
On that Cold Heat unit. We have one tech that loves it and one tech that hates it. Keep in mind the tech who hated it was using the wrong solder. The trick is to use the thinner solder. -
I am an installer, and we still call them Kalatels. When we talk GE, Kalatel always comes up.

Can you recommend a system for me?
DataAve replied to PoorOwner's topic in General Digital Discussion
Going off a wee bit of a tangent? The guy just wants something simple for his house. He doesn't want to take out a second mortgage to purchase a system. -
I just want to know where I can get "one of them" AcmeCCTV PTZ"s

I have the cams all up (most of them). I am just waiting for the next generation of DVR's to come out (by June) -

ebay, but you have to be careful what you are looking at. -
I am not big on PC Dvr's, but this stuff is nice. Check out the quality of the Live Session. http://www.seeitlive.com/

Kalatel use to be a big name in cctv business. We have alot systems we are upgrading still running with Kalatel equipment installed many years ago. There old stuff lasted forever, solid.

MetzLyov, Great pricing on those wall/ceiling mounts. Will consider next time.

I dissagree. Remember when you first started out? It is nice when someone gives you a helping hand. People helped me out, in turn, I will help someone else out. But then again, I wasn't much for the "good ole boys" club. Also, it is good business.

Why not just have a selected “member onlyâ€

Twist on, that is an insult. NEVER, never use twist-ons on a professional install - you are looking for unnecessary problems. Get yourself a nice set of "Harris" Crimpers, best in the biz. Automatic wire strippers (to me-and I have 3 brands) are useless also. Get yourself a good pair of Klein wire strippers (small red and/or yellow). -
Make sure you don't get cheap on the head end. Put in all high quality equipment. Use Panasonic DVR's (stay away from PC based (here comes an argument). Battery backup- APC. Use Fiberoptions (GE now) for data translators. As far as the cameras are concerned, go with Pelco (Spectra III) as they are the best in the business. Call Pelco on Christmas Eve with a problem, and they will answer the phone. I will post a link to some pictures of jobs that will help give you an idea. P.S. The problem with "beams" is that it will pick up animals and/or debris blowing by.
