Some Advice Please - need to replace a dvr and camera setup
brianoftheforum posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
Hi , I am looking for a dvr solution ,and would appreciate any advice. Things i need it to have *4-8 channels *h264 compression or better with at least 120fps -240fps * remote viewable from a web browser and application. *remote viewable from a blackberry or iphone(most important) *remote viewable from a mac osx if possible *at least room for 1TB of storage prefably SATA *Cost between $500 and $1500 (the lower the better) *web browser control runs in flash or java and is viewable in firefox or even safari.(my mac hates active x) I currently have a Intellicam 8 channel GLX DVR which works reasonably well, however it can only be viewed via internet explorer via activeX which limits it tremendously. Cameras - The cameras i currently have are VC-CA-IR100-6 from the security store - they are reasonable in the daylight and ok at night but not that great imo, could not pick out facial features from 20 ft at night operation. Loooking for a variable focus camera or even a ptz camera that operates well in night mode for outdoor use. The Ptz camera should allow me to set up automated runs to monitor zooming in and out. The less obtrusive the better cost per camera between $100 and $500 appreciate any help -

So my question is im trying to determine what type of cable the manufacture used, in order to buy the right crimp on bnc female head. i havnt noticed any info on the cable - is there an easy way of checking what it is in terms of size? thanks

channel frequency modulators to multiple tvs
brianoftheforum posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ok so i understand that a channel modulator allow you to select a specific tv channel or catv channel and place a signal onto this frequency. So If i take the output signal from say my 4 camera dvr and run that into the modulator and then place the output into a splitter with the cable tv input in the second input connection - and then run the output of the splitter into an amped splitter that feeds 3 different tvs. I should then see my dvr output on the specified cable tv channel of the modulator on all the tvs? If this is correct, is there any particular recomended modulator? i was looking at the CE labs high performance 125 modulator. thanks for your input -
channel frequency modulators to multiple tvs
brianoftheforum replied to brianoftheforum's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
yeah i kinda finnally realiazised that after all the work - misread what the modulators did. so rather than worry about carrying the analogue signal through as a modulated tv channel it will be easier to take my dvr out into a d/a and send each signal to analogue video in on each home theatre reciever. Thus cameras will be accessible on AV1 on each TV. -
channel frequency modulators to multiple tvs
brianoftheforum replied to brianoftheforum's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ok so yesterday i recieved the following - ChannelPlus NF-471 Notch Filter, Blocks CATV 75-80 Channel Plus 2-Way Splitter/Combiner Frequency Agile Mono Modulator, 1 Channel all bought from smarthome - So my current setup is - Cable TV from TWC comes in and goes to a splitter - from this one output goes to cable modem and the other goes to a residential amplifier which then outputs to 5 HD cable boxes in the house. So i tried the following - Hooked a camera up to the input of the modulator - took the output of the modulator to the above splitter/combiner on input 1 - The second input into the splitter/combiner came from the main TWC line into teh property which was attatched to the above notch filter and then fed the 2nd splitter input. The output went into my origonal 1 in 2 out splitter. This did nothing for me - didnt block any of the digital cable channels - from 75-80 on any of my tvs. So I then hooked everything back up as it was and this time i placed the combiner between the first splitter and the amp - thus bypassing the output of my modem. Again nothing. Am i doing something wrong did i buy crappy goods? any help apreciated who has got this working before with a simalar setup thanks -
Specco VL-66 or G4-400hpt - recomended better camera?
brianoftheforum posted a topic in Security Cameras
Specco VL-66 or G4-400hpt residential application - about 50ft coverage needed from each camera position for day and nightime. any thoughts appreciated -
thanks for the info mike - Was looking at the - Universal Mounting Bracket - Black- CMB-1B on intellicams site - do you happen to know if this works with the 400HPT? in order to soffet mount it? Secondly - and slightly unrelated - how good is the G4 XLA dvr in relation to the Specco EZVR4 - as they seem to be around the same price?

DC and cable run question
brianoftheforum replied to brianoftheforum's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
ok i think ive answered my own question - but if any one has any tips would be apprciated. 12 watts is about 1amp at 100% pull from the camera at 100ft on 16awg - and a voltage of 12vdc Voltage at load end of circuit - 11.167 Voltage drop - 0.833 So techinically the camera should be ok in terms of recieving enough power on a 100ft run using 16awg? -
First Outdooor Installation - some advice needed..
brianoftheforum posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hello, I have a couple of questions - doing my first outdoor installation in a few weeks and wanted to make sure i get everything as right as i can. right now i have 4 camera positions with the drill hole and RG6 and 18/2 fed through the hole ready for the camera. I have purchased 4 of the following cameras : VC-CA-IR100-6 - Color Weatherproof Infrared Camera, Fixed Lens from the home security store. My first question is - once i have the camera wired up , and mounted - do i seal the small hole in the wall with waterproof sealent or use some type of grommet , any suggestions appreciated. Secondly as far as the connections go - is it better to provide a wall mounted box for the connection points to go into- any recomendations for these? or do you try and get teh connection points into the camera housing? Is there anything i need to get to provide additional protection to any of the wire that is exposed to the elements? thankyou for any help or sugestions -
