Hi, all. I need to run 7500 ft of cable to power up a couple of active baluns and a camera inside a tunnel. According to various calculators I found online I should use 10 gauge 2 conductor cable with about 32V power supply to deliver 1 amp in 24V AC. Does that sound right? I have not been experienced with such long power cable run, and I am not sure if this is the right direction. Please advise. Thank you.

NVT told me that they can be daisy-chained to cover the distance. So I will have to give it a try. Plus my customer did not want to go fiber because of the cost. Solar power could not be obtained. That was the first thing I looked. It would have made it so simple. Use of LSZH cable has never been specified. I will look into that. Thank you so much.

I see. These are the NVT units I plan to use: http://www.nvt.com/content.php?type=product&key=652r&cid=root http://www.nvt.com/content.php?type=product&key=653t&cid=root They suggested that I use two sets of these to cover up to 8000 ft. Yes, I considered fiber, too. But because of higher cost involved with it we decided not to. Thank you.

I am using 2 sets of NVT active units for video. The power is not a problem? Awesome! How would you take care of the power? Thank you. Also if you have an idea on video part as well, please share.

Any actual experience with these:

ftp and email from DVR without a PC??
doyo replied to Benichembla's topic in General Digital Discussion
It looks as if the email alert and uploading image to FTP are done at the DVR itself, not PC program. If so, your PC would not need to be on all time. The only PC that does need to be on all time would be the FTP server PC. Couldn't that be what the joker at the shop meant? -

Hello, all of you. I joined last month. I'd been visiting often before though. I want to learn and share what little knowledge I have.

Hello, gmcmurry. I recommend DV3 series from Nuvico. It does all of the above. It also offers DDNS, well written manual, and easy operation. I've dealt with many of them and I was delighted most of times.

Hello, all. I need to install a camera that draws about 500mA, in about 200ft distance from the power supply. What would be the suitable amperage of the power supply? I am using 18/2.
-
Thank you, survtech. So use 16 gauge wire, and 1A power supply, correct? Well, if 18 gauge was the only option, what would I use, 1.5A? Can you tell me how to calculate that? I'd love to learn.

Yes, that is the idea. To do this easy, use a terminal block as what Thomas and CollinR said.

An-tone 4 channel installation?

In general, USB ports on DVR systems are for backup, not for connecting to PCs directly. In order to connect to DVRs from your PC, you would use ethernet port. -

Is the port forwarded to a single port or a range of ports? -
DVRNET REMOTE CLIENT NOT REFRESHING
doyo replied to vinod's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Then it must be the video card as destro_23 mentioned. If you give me your IP address I can try to connect from here and see what happens. I use ATI X1650. -
Yeah, I've had some bad ones myself. I know not all Taiwanese products are bad, though. By the way, if previous ones had the same problem, it might have something to do with the environment, too. Have you bench-tested them?

DVRNET REMOTE CLIENT NOT REFRESHING
doyo replied to vinod's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Could it be the internet connection or bandwidth issue?. You said it worked fine on your other laptop; was it connected in the same network area as your new Sony laptop? -
It seems like the CDs sensor on the camera is bad. Were they like that out of the box?
-
No. Use of RS232-485 converter does not limit the DVR's input number in any way. Yes, you are correct. I am not sure what self cleaning or mapping is, but without RS485 cable connected, you will not even be able to access the menu setting.
-
That's right; RS232 port, aka comport. You would need RS232-485 converter, though. The built-in motion detector of this camera seems to be the kind you would need is to access your PTZ's menu setting to activate. All it does would be showing motion notification on-screen whenever it detects one. I would just ignore it and use motion detection recording the DVR offers instead. That's probably why CollinR said there wasn't much point doing it...I think?
-
Generally, you cannot control a PTZ with a computer keyboard. You will need to run RS485 cable from the camera to the DVR. Then you would be able to control the PTZ through on-screen-controller pad using your mouse.

NVR can be remote accessed. If you are using IP cameras, NVR is the right choice. If CCTV cameras, DVR. Generally, yes. There are NVRs that works with both IP and CCTV cameras, though.
-
Most of the softwares that come with DVR boards do not support both IP cameras and CCTV cameras together...unless it specifically mentions that it supports both, being 'Hybrid'. Those Hybrid DVR boards are still hard to find. 8ch DVR with 120 frames per second recording in MPEG4 compression would consume about 1.7GB per hour in standard quality, CIF resolution. One with H264 hardware compression (240 frames per second recording) would consume about 1GB per hour, and yes, they are more costly, about two times more.
-
In usual school setting, indoor cameras will capture about 9 hours of motion per day, and outdoor about 11 hours; so I would say about 12 hours of recording per day. As far as storage capacity is concerned, usual 16ch DVR with MPEG4 compression would record about 1.7GB per hour in standard setting. So in order to store 12 hours of recording per day, it would need 20.4GB. (1.7GB x 12 hour = 20.4GB) And for 14 days of recording it would be about 286GB. (20.4GB x 14 days = 285.6GB) Also keep in mind that there is only 2~5 hours of recording during Sat & Sun.
