Geovision cards and video (graphics) cards... Which one?
steve6690 replied to C7Installer's topic in Geovision
I had a Radeon 7500 64Mb PCI graphics card which I "upgraded" to an Nvidia Fx5700 128 Mb AGP card for my Geo system. I wish I hadn't bothered. If anything the Radeon did the job better. -
It's definitely the mobo chipset. Looked at some other mobos that use it and none have Via Northbridge/Southbridge. http://www.eqscomputers.com/products/mobo/motherboard.php?model=M56K9-MLF http://tw.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Products/Products_GA-K8A480M-9.htm http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/product/amd-k8/a210gda/spec.htm [/url]

http://www.ati.com/products/radeonxpress200/index.html It looks like an ATI chipset as opposed to a VIA. Onboard video. Seems to be a decent machine though from the review posted.

http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review2630_main13158.html the problem might be the fact that the m/board has integrated video. Just a thought..... Can you beg/borrow/steal a PCI-Express standalone graphics card and try that ? steve

restarting computer???
steve6690 replied to Sanra's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Is the watchdog function activated/connected ? I may be wrong but if it is, wouldn't any kind of system error cause a reboot. If that's the case then any lock-up, even a non-geo system error could be the problem. -
If you're using a router and it's working ok but times out, look in the router config for an option to stay permanently connected. It might be called something like "nailed up connection". If it won't connect at all you need to check your ISP and account settings. These should be stored somewhere in the router config. You might find that if you go into the router config you can start a wizard that will take you throught the necessary steps. The router should always keep the dsl connection live, even when the pc is switched off, as it is a standalone unit.

Ok here in the West Midlands ! There are some sick b****rds in the world..... -
thanks for the advice. I'm trying to keep the costs down as the system is for my parents. They've had items stolen from the back yard over the years and my dads old mercedes keeps having the badges ripped off on his drive. I've finally convinced them to let me build a system for them.

25 fps realtime recording across 6-8 cameras ?
steve6690 replied to paranoid's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
sounds very interesting herm .. -
It's new ground for me. My Gv250 works well with a GigaByte KT400 board, AMD XP 2800+ Barton but I'm building another system around a GV600 and don't know whether to stick with this format, or go with a P4 ( I865 chipset board or SiS ) which will cost more. Wouldn't mind a try with Athlon 64 XP 3400 based system but I don't know how well it will work, if at all. No HINT chip so got too many choices.
-
So Rory, how did the SiS thing work out ?

25 fps realtime recording across 6-8 cameras ?

So, out of interest, is there such a beast as a cctv capture card with full onboard compression, what is the recorded video quality like, and how do they compare price-wise to, say, a Geo. If your main goal was image quality would you still be better off going for a good standalone ? Our police station has just changed its two analogue systems to DM Digital Sprite 2 using JVC monitors and the displayed video, compared to any PC based system I have seen, is in another league completely. Could any PC card match that ? -
Went to a pub today to get some cctv evidence of a fight. It was a PC based system called Axiom. Seemed quite a good system although the image quality was not very good. How should they perform compared to Geovision for example ? Thanks Steve

mobile viewing using 3g??? UK
steve6690 replied to antdickens's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I just bought a 3G phone on "3"'s network. They bar access to the internet so will be no use to you. steve -
Antec SLK1650B. Last two systems I built I used these cases and I'll keep on using them. It's a midi-tower with 350W power supply for around £43. Nice to work with and comes with a quiet(ish) rear fan. Keeps the components nice and cool.

I want an authorised Geovision dealer to supply GV1000+cams
steve6690 replied to thewatcher's topic in Geovision
bought my Geovision card and day/night cam from : http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk I was happy with their service. -
probably because the percentage saving is only around 10 - 15%. Not enough for many people to take the perceived risk of buying other than the market leader especially when Geo has all the features most users will ever need. There used to be a saying "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM". Not that I'm drawing any comparisons between the two. When I bought my own GV250 card last year I researched what was available but went eventually with my perceived safe option.
-
Out of interest.... why is posting of retail prices not allowed ? I can understand why trade/dealer pricing might be considered sensitive but not end user pricing.

Looking for card/software.
steve6690 replied to Marcusl's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You can minimize the Geovision software and let it run in the background while you use the pc for something else. It's not recommended though. A GV800 card should suit you -
I've just signed up to a 3G contract with 3 network and received a nice Motorola A1000 phone. Subsequently discovered that I can't use it to view my home CCTV system remotely. "3" don't allow access to the internet so I am stuck with their content. Not a real problem because I didn't buy the phone for that reason but it would have been a nice facility. I am not sure if the phone would have run the Geo software anyway....

Do you mean 3G ?

Jell-Filled CAT5 UV - Install Problem Ickey-Pic

haven't tried it but I've used the tape for keeping things (water etc) from getting into cables. It might stop things from getting out (only a theory).... -
